55.0 The One With The Magic Conch Shell
"Every year on the fucking senior trip, the team singles out some poor kid and destroys him." Justin Foley explained to Ani Achola as him and Elizabeth Jensen stood at her locker.
"Destroys him how?" Ani questioned him, crossing her arms over her chest.
Elizabeth looked up at Justin and sighed. "They use this stupid legend about Burnham Woods." She told her friend.
"No one believes it." Justin shrugged. "But they pull all this shit to freak kids out."
"Last year, I'm pretty sure the kid fucking pissed his pants." Elizabeth stated as she leaned into her boyfriend, and his arm wrapped around her waist.
Ani shook her head. "You think they're going to pick Clay this year?"
"Positive." Justin nodded as he looked up and saw Clay Jensen approaching them. "Fuck." He groaned, causing Elizabeth and Ani to look over at him. They both looked up at Justin with wide eyes, telling him to be okay. Clay had just finished serving his two week suspension for everything that happened at the dance.
The trio approached Clay. "What are you guys whispering about?" Clay asked them.
Elizabeth shrugged as Justin looked down at her and shook his head. "Uh- nothing." Ani answered. "How did it go?" He and Diego Torres had just been in a meeting with the student council to decide if they were able to attend the Senior Camping Trip. The council decided to allow them to go.
Clay just pushed past them, walking around the corner. He leaned his back against the wall, sighing at he stared at everyone else in the hallway. He was convinced they were all thinking about him. He saw his sister appear in front of him. "Dude, what's wrong."
"Does everyone think I'm, like, crazy now?"
"No." Elizabeth shook her head as she glanced around the hallway. No one was even noticing Clay. "They all think you're fine." She looked back at Justin who was watching her closely from around the corner. "Listen, Ani told me to tell you that Alex and Winston have spending a shit ton of time together since you've been gone. Like every fucking of every fucking day." Clay just nodded in response. "Are you sure that I shouldn't be worried about you?"
Clay finally looked up at his sister. He shook his head frantically. "No, really. I'm absolutely fine."
"Okay." Elizabeth sighed before walking back over to her boyfriend. "He claims he's alright."
Justin scoffed as he leaned his hand against a random locker. "He is far from alright. He shouldn't be going on the camping trip."
"Maybe we should tell him that none of us should go." Elizabeth looked up at Justin. "You're right. He shouldn't go. The football team is going to screw with him more than they've screwed with anyone."

Elizabeth stared down at her phone as an email had appeared in her inbox from her own brother. She began to read it aloud to her boyfriend as they sat on her bed. "Guys, I know every one of you is a good person. You've kept my secrets, and I've kept yours, but we've all done terrible things. I cam't live with that anymore. I can't keep looking over my shoulder. I can't live like this. We can't live like this. I'm sure a lot of you feel the same. Something has to change. Wouldn't it be better for everyone if we just told the truth? We hurt people, and it's time to come clean. If we don't all confess to what we did, I'm going to tell everyone the truth at the senior share campfire." Justin grabbed her phone, trying to make sense of everything. "What the actual fuck is this?"
"He told you he was alright." Justin groaned as he threw her phone against the bed. "This is not him being alright."
"He could have been hacked. Someone's been messing with him, right?" Elizabeth picked up her phone, trying to see anything that indicated any bit of foul play. "I don't fucking understand. He doesn't want any of this to come out any less than any of us do." Justin stood up from the bed and made his way over to Elizabeth's door. "Where are you going?"
Justin looked back at her as he opened her door. "I'm going to go and see what the fuck this is all about." Justin quickly left the room, with Elizabeth rushing behind him.
The two made their way out of the house and into the shed, seeing Clay coming out of the bathroom. He looked up at their upset faces and furrowed his eyebrows. "What's wrong?"
"Don't ask me what's fucking wrong." Elizabeth snapped as she rushed over to Clay's laptop and opened it. "Go into your email." Clay looked up at her with a confused expression. "Just do it."
"Okay." Clay sighed, signing into his gmail.
Justin and Elizabeth moved behind Clay, watching over his shoulder. "Now go into your sent mail." Justin instructed as he crossed his arms over his chest.
Clay did what he said, and his eyes widened as he saw an email that he did not remember sending. "What the fuck is this?!" Clay exclaimed, clicking on it. He read through the entire email. He looked behind at the two. "This is insane." Justin sent Elizabeth a look before sighing. He scratched the back of his neck, beginning to pace around the room. "Guys, I didn't write this. You have to believe me."
"We believe you." Elizabeth nodded.
"But, it just-" Justin paused, looking at the computer screen. "It came from your account."
Clay shook his head. "Yeah, someone must have hacked me. Why would I write this? It's fucking Diego and those guys."
Justin looked Clay right in the eyes before speaking. "Why would they come after you again?"
"I think it's because I picked that fight." Clay shrugged, not really knowing why either.
"Why did you pick that fight?" Elizabeth spoke, moving in between her brother and boyfriend. Clay's mouth opened as if he was about to say something, but he never spoke. He just sat back down in his seat. "Clay, I don't think that we should go on the trip. I hate camping anyways." She looked around the room. "We can just do some kind of sci-fi movie marathon or whatever you want." Justin nodded as the two of the sat on the couch, facing Clay.
Clay sent his sister a glare. "You guys don't think I can handle it. You think I might, like, break."
"That's not what I said, Clay. I said-"
"Like I'm actually crazy." Clay cut his sister up, standing up from his seat. He moved to his bed, turning his back on both Justin and Elizabeth.
"Clay-" Justin called after Clay, but he didn't turn around. "Clay, what happened on the football field?" Clay ran his hand through his hair, turning to face them. "Why won't you tell me? Is it because you don't trust me?"
"Because nothing happened!" Clay shouted at him.
Elizabeth let out a sigh, and Justin grabbed her hand. "Can we, please, just stay home?" The girl spoke as the door to the shed opened.
Lainie Jensen entered the room with multiple shopping bags in her hands. "Hey!" She smiled at her kids. "Look what I bought!" She giggled, placing the bags on Justin's bed. "Everything you need to go camping." She spoked, taking out a funny looking hat and putting it on her head.
"Is that for Eliza?" Justin laughed as he pictured Elizabeth in the hat. She responded by punching him in the shoulder. "Ow!" Justin whimpered, holding his shoulder.
"No, I bought it for myself. I'm going with you guys."
The three teenagers shared looks of fear from what Lainie had just told them. "What did you just say?" Elizabeth raised an eyebrow.
"Mom, no." Clay shook his head. "Just no. You don't even know how to camp. Only Dad does."
Lainie shrugged. "I know, and unfortunately, he's at a Dickens conference, so..." She smiled as she raised her hands up in celebration. She noticed the kids were unimpressed, and she sighed. "You three won't even know I'm there. Besides, look at all this great stuff I got us." She began to reach into the bags.
"Yeah, that REI guy really saw you coming." Justin joked at he watched Lainie.
"Oh, oh, oh!" Lainie gasped, pulling something out of the bags. "Check it out! Solar lanterns." She giggled, moving towards the exit of the shed. "Of course, you need sunlight to charge them. I'm going to put them outside in the morning. Fun!"
Elizabeth crinkled her nose. "Do you even know what fun means, mom?"
"Get your sleep, okay?" Lainie spoke, leaving the three teenagers alone in the shed.
"I guess we are actually going camping." Elizabeth sighed, leaning her head against Justin's shoulders.

Elizabeth stepped off the bus when they arrived at Burnham Woods. She had never wanted to go on the camping trip anyways. She fucking hated camping, and she always had. She frowned before seeing Zach Dempsey to Charlie St. George. When Charlie left him, Elizabeth approached Zach. "Please tell that you will behave yourself on this trip."
"No can do." Zach chuckled as he lifted up a container filled with cookies. "Charlie made weed cookies."
The girl cocked her head to the side, sighing. "Zach, please."
"You can't ask me to do anything." Zach scoffed, trying to turn away from her, but she grabbed onto his hand.
"I want to help you. This isn't good for you."
"You aren't good for me." Zach spoke, not even turning to look at her. "So, can you just fucking leave me alone and let me live my life the way I want to live it."
Elizabeth shook her head, grabbing Zach's cheeks and turning him to look at her. "I love you so much, and I just want you to be okay."
"I am fucking okay." Zach couldn't deny that he enjoyed having her touch his face like that, but he tried to push away those thoughts. He could not let himself get his heartbroken by her another time. Zach pulled her hands away from his face, but instantly missed her touch.
"You didn't pick up my calls last night."
"Am I supposed to be at your beck and call again?" Zach frowned, looking down at the ground. "You have Justin for that, not me."
Elizabeth furrowed her eyebrows. "I just wanted to tell you that Clay didn't send the email."
Zach shook his head. "I don't care." He chuckled, rolling his eyes. "Maybe he should tell everyone everything tonight. Maybe then this whole situation will be over with."
"You don't mean that."
Zach looked down at the ground and then back at her. "You're right. I don't." He couldn't stand looking at her for longer than twenty second, so he just watched everyone unload their bags from the busses. "I just can't let myself care about anything anymore, because when I do, all I feel is pain."
Elizabeth's mouth opened slightly, but she quickly closed it. "Zach, you know I'm sorry."
"Sorry doesn't fix everything."
And with that, Zach Dempsey left Elizabeth Jensen alone.

"Okay then, the question for senior share." Lainie Jensen spoke to the senior class of Liberty High School as they all sat around a campfire. "Looking back at your time at Liberty, do you have any regrets?" She noticed how everyone's expression dropped, and she started flipping through the pages of the notebook in front of her. "Let's pick something a little happier." She landed on a good question, and smiled. "Who do you trust most in your life and why?" Elizabeth looked up at her boyfriend who was sitting next to her before leaning her head on his shoulder. He placed his hand on his thigh, snuggling up against her more.
No one around the campfire spoke up until Diego Torres raised his hand. "I'll go." He spoke before Lainie tossed him the magic conch shell, which was given to the person who was allowed to speak. He looked down at the shell. "I- uh- I always trust me boys to have my back. And... I..." He raised his eyebrows, pausing for a second before continuing. "I trusted Monty. Always." Elizabeth let out a sigh, moving closer towards her boyfriend. "He was the one who got me to play. Freshman year, I- um- I remember telling him, 'Dominicans don't play football'." Many people around the campfire chuckled. "But, he wouldn't take that. He taught me pride. He taught me what it was to trust someone, and I- I miss him."
Elizabeth looked up at Justin with wide eyes. He brought his lips to her ear and whispered, "Don't worry, baby. I'm not going to let anything happen, alright?"
