37.0 The One Where They Do A Search

Post Death
Pre Death

Justin Foley threw the pillow from the couch across the room and searched in the crevices. He couldn't find it. He couldn't find his oxy. He rushed to the table, placing his hand on the underside of it to try and feel if the bag was there. He ripped a small plastic bag off the bottom of the table and groaned.

Empty.

He pulled out one of the drawers on his side of the room and moved all of the clothes around before moving to a different set of drawers.

The football player smiled as he grabbed onto his usual container, and his fingers fumbled to open it. His smile faded when he saw nothing in it. "Fuck." He threw the container back into the drawer as Clay Jensen walked into the room.

Clay has been staring at his phone when he entered, so, at first, he did not notice the mess. Justin stood from the ground as Clay's eyes moved from his phone to their destroyed room. "What the hell?"

Justin had to lie. He had to. "It's Eliza. She just- Uh- she lost an earring." Justin smiled as he lightly placed the pillow back onto the couch.

"Eliza doesn't wear ear-" The Jensen boy noticed the gun that was supposed to be gone lying on Justin's bed. "Justin, what the fuck?" Clay exclaimed, motioning towards the gun. Justin looked down and placed his hand on his temples. "I thought you got rid of it last night."

The gun was thrown into a drawer by Justin as he began talking. "The first guy didn't work out, okay? I will- I got it."

"You can just leave it lying around."

"Just chill. I got it."

"Got what?"

The two boys turned to see Elizabeth Jensen standing with her backpack draped over her shoulders. Justin glanced at Clay and then back at Elizabeth as he grabbed onto his bag. "Nothing, babe." Justin smiled as he pressed a kiss against her cheek and took her bag off her back to carry it for her. "Just some project that I'm not really holding up my part in."

Clay rolled his eyes before speaking. "They found his Range Rover and blood on the ground."

"Bryce's?" Clay nodded in response to Elizabeth's question.

"They're calling it a homicide." He continued.

"Fuck." Justin sighed with wide eyes.

Clay looked down at the ground before speaking again. "They found drugs and fingerprints."

"Drugs? What- What drugs?" Justin stuttered.

"She didn't say." Clay answered Justin. "But they found fingerprints that weren't his."

Justin chuckled as he draped an arm over Elizabeth's shoulders. "That's alright, right? I mean, it's a car. It's got a ton of fingerprints." Elizabeth furrowed her eyebrows as she listened to Justin speak. Neither her or Zach touched Bryce's car. Maybe they could not get brought in. "He probably drove his Hillcrest friends around, and-"

"Justin, my prints could be on it." Clay cut him off.

"Did you kill him?" Justin questioned him.

"Of course not." Clay shook his head.

Elizabeth breathed in heavily before speaking. "Then don't worry about it, Clay."

"Come on, 'Liza." Justin started pulling Elizabeth towards the door, but Clay stopped them from leaving.

"You don't wanna know why my prints could be on it?"

Justin turned back. "No, I really don't."

He lightly pushed Elizabeth out the door and towards his car. Elizabeth spoke softly as she got into the passenger side. "Are you okay?"

"Yeah." Justin nodded aggressively as he turned on his car and began towards the high school.

"You just seem stressed or something."

"I'm fine, okay?"

"Why are you guys protesting his funeral. This is fucked up." Justin spoke to Jessica and Elizabeth before they both tore down the giant poster at the high school for the protest of Bryce's funeral.

"This wasn't me." Jessica stated.

Alex approached the trio. "Guys, heads up if you have shit in your locker, they're doing a search."

"Yeah, they already did, the football team." Justin explained to Alex.

Alex shook his head, leaning against the wall. "No, my dad's still here. They'll do the whole school. I promise."

"I've got nothing to hide." Justin shrugged.

"Well, good for you." Alex scoffed before leaving them.

"Why does he give a shit about a locker search?" Justin furrowed his eyebrows as he mumbled.

Elizabeth remembered the Molly in her locker. "Fuck." She rushed over to her locker and opened it.

Justin had followed closely behind her. "What the fuck, 'Liza?" She snatched the tiny bag of white powder from her locker. "Why do you have that?"

"It was last year, alright?" Elizabeth shook her head. "I don't use now, but I did. I have to go dump it." She ran into the girls bathroom and flushed it down the drain, tossing the bag into the trashcan.

Ani, Clay, and Elizabeth stood in the library as Justin passed them a binder with a small red bag in it. Clay opened the binder and unzipped the bag, revealing drugs. He looked back at Justin and shook his head. "I don't believe it. Not Alex."

He passed the binder to Ani, who picked up the bag, taking a closer look at the two tiny bottles inside. "Testosterone cypionate." She read aloud.

"Those are steroid." Elizabeth stated as she looked down at the bottles.

Justin nodded in response. "Bryce was dealing them."

"Why would Bryce deal?" Clay questioned his friends and sister. "He doesn't need the money."

Elizabeth shrugged. "Maybe he liked the control?" She looked around the library, trying to see if anyone was listening to them. "He had a hand on anyone who bought from him."

"But Alex is a mellow guy."

Ani laughed at Clay's words. "Alex is mellow?" She zipped the red bag back up and put in back into the binder.

"I have to go to an HO meeting, alright? We'll talk about this later." Elizabeth stated before leaving the library.

She met Jessica in the hallway, and she was carrying a poster for the protest. "What the fuck do they think they're doing?" Jessica spat as they made their way into the basement of the school. "They're searching lockers today." Jessica stated, putting the poster on the table that Casey and other members of HO were sitting at.

"Good." Casey chuckled and held up a poster for the protest. "They'll find a lot of those."

Tyler furrowed his eyebrows. "Wait, they told me that you both wanted to do this."

Casey looked towards Tyler. "We don't need her permission. The group decided."

Elizabeth laughed as she shook her head. "The group did not fucking decide, you did."

"You just want to piss people off." Jessica frowned as she spoke.

"Yes, I fucking do. People should be pissed off!" Casey looked back down at the posters on the table. "This shouldn't end just because they put a fucking rapist in the ground."

"My rapist!" Jessica shouted. "My rapist, okay?" She looked around at the whole group. "And, I say we can't do this! We can't be this!"

Casey scoffed. "Because you want to protect your rapist, and that's messed up."

"No, because there's human decency!"

Casey sighed, rolling her eyes slightly. "I think I understand. You're still a victim." Elizabeth's eyes widened. "Well, you'll know where to find the survivors on Sunday."

"Something is fucking wrong with you." Elizabeth spat as Jessica grabbed onto her arm, starting to pull her out of the room.

"She's not worth it, Eliza."
