31.0 The One Where The Boys Get A Cool New Room

Post Death
Pre Death

Elizabeth Jensen sat with Ani Achola, Justin Foley, and Clay Jensen at a table in Monet's the afternoon after Clay had gotten taken down to the police station to get asked about Bryce Walker's disappearance. "Dude, what the actual fuck? Do they really think something happened to Bryce?" Justin questioned Clay, leaning forward in his seat.

"I don't think they know." Clay responded, shaking his head. "It's possible that he's just at some hotel in Vegas, right?"

Justin sighed, rubbing his temple. "I mean, if they start looking into shit between me and Bryce, between you, me and Bryce," Justin emphasized the word you, "like that night at his house last spring." Justin was referring to a night when Clay had almost killed Bryce outside of his house.

"Justin," Justin turned to face his manager, "do you maybe wanna bust a few tables while you're out there, to like at least pretend you actually work here?" Justin had gotten a job a Monet's earlier in the year.

Justin let out a chuckle. "Yeah, sorry." He turned back to Clay. "I gotta start my shift." He unzipped his hoodie, throwing it over Elizabeth's shoulder's. He pressed a kiss on her forehead. "I'll see you later, 'Liza." She noticed that he seemed off. He seemed as if he was freaked out about Bryce's disappearance.

"Have fun." She stated as she watched him walk behind the counter.

Ani moved closer towards Clay. "What night at his house last spring?"

"Justin seems freaked out, yeah?" Elizabeth asked her brother, completely ignoring Ani's question. Clay nodded in response as the pair watched Justin carefully.

"Aren't the two of you?"

Clay looked towards Ani. "You don't have to worry about me, okay? I can take care of myself." Elizabeth let out a laugh before covering her mouth quickly. "And, what the fuck does that mean, Eliza?"

"It means that I totally believe you can take care of yourself." Elizabeth giggled as she lied.

The Jensen family were inside their kitchen a few mornings after the events of Spring Fling with Justin, Elizabeth, and her mother sitting at the table, her dad making scrambled eggs, and Clay staring broodingly out the window as he did on so many occasions.

"At least you're all safe." Mrs. Jensen spoke about the Spring Fling incident as Clay circled around the table and sat on the other side of Justin.

"It sounds like an overreaction." Mr. Jensen commented as he placed a plate of scrambled eggs on the breakfast table. The three teenagers in the house shared looks that definitely said that they were hiding something. Fortunately, the adults did not notice.

Mrs. Jensen was on her phone, trying to research what they would need to know about moving forward with the adoption of Justin. "Oh, here's something, Justin. So, the social worker visits a few times. They process the paperwork, then they'll schedule the custody hearing once everything's been filed and they've confirmed that they can't contact your mother."

"Okay." Justin nodded as he began cutting his eggs. "Got it."

Mr. Jensen sat at one of the chairs at the table. "Hey, I think we should clear out the workshop for a bedroom."

"For Justin?" Elizabeth chuckled as she patted him on the back. "So he moves in here, and then we ship him to a whole other building?"

"For both boys." Mr. Jensen corrected her daughter, who's smile completely dropped. "They're gonna be seniors next year. They'll need their space."

"I think you forget that I'll be a senior, too, dad." Elizabeth frowned as she grabbed a piece of bacon from a plate in the center of the table. "I would appreciate a dope new room, too."

"Apparently none of them need their space." Their mother chuckled as she cut her scrambled eggs. "As they manage all kinds of miscreant behavior without either of us knowing." She looked up at her son who was staring off into space. "Right, Clay?" The whole family looked over at him when he didn't answer her. "Clay?"

Clay immediately snapped out of it. "Uh- right."

Later that morning, Clay, Elizabeth, Justin, and Tony were walking with Tyler through the hallways of the high school. "Hey, Tyler. What's up?" Montgomery De La Cruz scoffed as he passed them.

Tyler stopped as he watched Montgomery walk by him with wide eyes. "I can't- I can't do this." He looked down at the floor. "I- I got- I got to go."

Elizabeth looked between the three other boys who had no idea what to do before stepping closer to Tyler. "Hey, those guys aren't gonna hurt you, okay?" She smiled softly as she tried to look him in the eye but he kept dodging her glances.

"Tyler, it's okay." Clay spoke as he placed his hand on Tyler's shoulder, but Tyler immediately shrugged him off.

Elizabeth glared at Clay, who stepped backwards. She sighed before turning back to Tyler. "Just focus on your breathing, yeah?" She watched as he began to try to breathe heavily. "Just take a slow and deep breath." He finally succeeded and Elizabeth smiled. "That's it, Tyler." She looked behind her as a door to a classroom opened, and Alex walked out of it. "Alex is in your first period, so why don't you go with him, okay? Then he'll walk you to second, and-"

"And me and Eliza will be with you at lunch." Justin stepped next to Elizabeth, snaking his arm around her waist.

Elizabeth looked up at him and blushed softly before looking back at Tyler. "Does that sound okay?" Tyler nodded as he started walking slowly towards Alex.

The group watched him as he entered the classroom. "Something happened to that kid, okay? Somethings not right." Tony spoke.

"Do you think Monty?" Clay questioned him.

"Not just Monty, but Bryce and Jaime Garrison. The kid gets it from fucking everywhere." Justin interjected. "This isn't going to work."

"Don't think like that." Elizabeth looked up at Justin and frowned. "It has to work."

Justin sighed. "Are you guys even sure that you got all of his guns?" Tony and Clay looked down at the ground, having answered the question with their reactions.

At lunch, Elizabeth was sitting with Tyler and Clay, saving a seat for Justin next to her. Their delightful meal was interrupted by Ani Achola, the new girl, approaching their table.

"Hey, you don't mind if I sit here, do you?" She smiled as she stood above the rest of them. Elizabeth had never seen her before, but could already tell that she was not going to like her. "I feel like you're more or less obligated to be nice to me, at least for the rest of the day."

"Because you're new?" Clay seemed fed up with her already as well. The Jensen siblings did think alike.

Ani shook her head. "Or because on my tour, you assaulted a guy."

Both Tyler and Elizabeth's eyes widened as they looked at Clay. Clay seemed flustered, but finally gave in. "Sure, take a seat."

Ani started to sit down in the seat Elizabeth had been saving for Justin. "Actually, I was saving that for-" Ani completely ignored her. "Okay, sure, sit wherever you'd like."

"Hi. Ani." She smiled at both of the unknown faces to her.

"Eliza." Elizabeth tried to force a smile, and more or less failed.

"Tyler." Tyler said, unenthusiastically.

"It's a pleasure." Ani's haze shifted towards Clay. "So, tell me about Clay. He internalizes, doesn't he?"

Elizabeth let out a laugh as she nodded. Clay sent her a glare, and she sunk into her seat. Tyler looked back and forth between the two, not knowing what to say, when finally Clay spoke. "You literally just met me. How would you know that?"

"Hey, princess." Elizabeth smiled as Justin scooted his way into being able to sit next to Elizabeth. The three were a little cramped on the bench, but Elizabeth and a Justin always loved being close to each other. Justin kissed his girlfriend on the cheek before draping his arm over her shoulders.

"Justin, this is Ani." Elizabeth looked at Justin in a way to tell him that she did not like Ani. She looked back at Ani. "Ani, this is my boyfriend, Justin." Elizabeth smiled as she glanced up at Justin, who returned the smile.

Ani scoffed. "Pleasure." She looked back at Clay. "You know, for a sour puss, you have loads of friends."

Clay nodded softly. "Tyler is my friend." He motioned towards the couple sitting next to Ani. "Justin lives with me, and I'm related to that creature."

"Creature?" Elizabeth chuckled.

"Kinky." Justin smirked, earning a playful nudge in the shoulder from Elizabeth. "Anyways, they're adopting me."

"Oh, that's fantastic." And smiled, clapping her hands together. Elizabeth frowned because of her eagerness. "Clay believes that brothers should take care of each other."

"He certainly doesn't think that way about sisters and brothers." Elizabeth mumbled under her breath, causing a chuckle from Justin.

Clay glared at her before beginning to stand up. "I need some ketchup." He started walking towards the condiments.

Elizabeth looked down as she started stabbing the lettuce in her salad. "So, he might seem like an uptight asshole at first, maybe even for a while, but he's a really good guy." Justin tried to speak to Ani over Elizabeth, who was in between them. "So, just give him some time. He's worth it."

Ani smiled softly. "How much time?"

"For me it took eight years." Justin smirked playfully.

Elizabeth stared down at her phone. Zach was texting her about Bryce, and she really had no idea what to say to him. Zach killed Bryce, and Elizabeth knew about it. She frowned as she leaned her head back against her pillow. The door opened as Justin entered the room, smiling. "Are you stressed about Zach?" Elizabeth nodded as she put down her phone. Justin sat down on the bed. "You can't worry about it. Bryce was not dead when Zach left him.

"That doesn't mean he didn't kill him."

"You can't think like that, okay?" Justin grabbed Elizabeth's hand and pulled her up into a sitting position.

"You're right." Elizabeth nodded as she looked at her boyfriend.

"I'm always right." Justin smirked.

Elizabeth furrowed her eyebrows. "That is so far from the truth it's not even funny."

Justin shrugged. "I was right about you."

"Mhm, maybe." Elizabeth scrunched up her nose and giggled. "But that doesn't mean you're always right, babe."Justin chuckled as he pressed his lips against Elizabeth's. She pulled away slightly to say, "I love you."

"I love you, too."
