09 - Keep Me

Third Person POV:

The sky was dotted with puffy clouds as the sun shone brightly. Two pups, Chase and Skye are walking together, peacefully. The sounds of children's laughter and a slight breeze sounded the area.

"You said you wanted to take a walk. Are you okay?" the Cockapoo inquired, distressed.

For a moment, he's speechless. No mere words could describe how he felt.

"I'm not okay."

The sad, solemn look on the German Shepherd's face gave Skye chills, even if it's summer.

"I can see that, Chase," the Cockapoo looks down to the paved ground, "I wish I could help you. I just don't like seeing you sad. Ever since last week or something, you haven't been yourself."

He stares at her, forcing a small smile, but deep down, it's a frown.

"I know you want to help, but...It's complicated. How come you care so much about me and my sadness?" Chase stared at me, perplexed, "I don't matter...I'm not special or anything."

"Chase, we're friends. We've been like that for a long time, now. You're a close friend to me. I care about you a lot...If only you knew how much." Skye slowly smiled.

"I know we're friends. But the situation I'm dealing with...With Marshall...It's just too sensitive." the German Shepherd muttered.

"If you say so." the beige-furred Cockapoo exhaled, "Is there anything else on your mind?"

Chase seemed off about a lot of things. Many thoughts and emotions to put up with. It's hard.

He frowned, "I'm dealing with something else, too. But, it doesn't matter at the moment."

"Do you want to sit at the beach in front of the shore or something? The sound of the waves is soothing." Skye suggests, hoping for Chase to approve.

She wants both of them to sit at the beach and relax for the day.

"Okay, let's go." he gives in, walking towards the boardwalk.

From the view, the beach isn't busy today. There are only a few people, relaxing as they can. Kids are running around, adults are chilling under umbrellas. A typical day at the beach, but with fewer people.

"Let's sit under that nearby umbrella. Nobody is near it. It's hot today." the Cockapoo points to a beach umbrella.

Overall, the umbrella is large, big enough for the two pups to sit under, without getting sunburned.

"Alright." he plops himself onto the sand.

The two pups are sitting side-by-side, each staring at the ground. The sounds of the waves and muffled sounds of laughter set the mood between the two.

"I never asked this through all this time we've been hanging out together!" Chase started, "How are you doing today, Skye?"

She glanced over to Chase, with a small smile.

"I'm doing good, Chase," Skye looked to the coasts of the beach, resisting the urge to go closer to the German Shepherd.

"I'm glad you're doing better than me." he slightly flushed.

"Yeah..."

The two were left staring at each other, sincerely. Without anybody to interrupt them. Skye leaned onto Chase's soft fur, which got a confused, yet happy look on his face. They felt rather comfortable...

"There's always something I wanted to tell you. And I think today is the day I should say." the German Shepherd gazed up at the sky, which was now getting darker.

"Really?" a bewildered Cockapoo asked, "What is it?"

Nervousness overfilled the German Shepherd, rather than confidence.

"You know, when we met, it was like I felt something different for you. Then, I slowly realized something about you." Chase initiated.

Skye listened carefully at the words the German Shepherd was speaking. She's shocked and slightly confused.

"I know you probably won't like what I'm about to tell you." Chase stated, "But I really like you. As in more than just friends. You have such a good heart, you're helpful, friendly, kind-hearted, and every good word I could think of. You probably don't like me back, and I understand. I just wanted to tell you this because I've been holding this in for so long."

This got a blank stare from Skye. She's now on the verge of crying tears of joy. She felt mixed emotions inside...

"Chase..." she placed a paw onto Chase's shoulder, "I don't like you..."

This made Chase's heart drop. "I knew it."

"I love you, Chase! More than anything or anyone!" Skye admitted truthfully.

"Really, Skye?" the German Shepherd gasped in amazement.

"I'm not kidding, Chase." Skye giggled, "I love you a lot."

"I love you too, Skye." he pulled in for a kiss.

When their lips met together, it was like harmony. As if the birds were singing a sweet tune. Skye's heart pounded in both shock and amazement. She thought that this moment was a dream, even if it isn't.

She could only focus on Chase and the delightful kiss. The warmth of the fading sun established the mood, along with the crashing waves of the seashore.

There was so much emotion at this moment for both of the pups. They both kept their eyes closed as it went by. Skye snuck a peek every so often just to make sure she was in reality. Her heart skipped a beat as the kiss lasted.

After, they let go of the kiss to breathe.

They gazed into each other's eyes, feeling different emotions. The sun has now disappeared and clouds filled the sky, which got a worried look from the Cockapoo.

"Chase! Skye! Where are you? It's about to rain!" Ryder spoke through their pup tags.

"We're at the beach, Ryder! We were hanging out! And we'll be at the Lookout soon!" Chase started to walk to the boardwalk.

"We're coming!" Skye said.

Chase glanced over to Skye, who had a small smile on her face. "Ready to go?"

"Let's go." Skye started running before the rain would start falling.

Chase stopped for a second to ask a question.

"So, that means we're a couple now, right?" Chase requested, with an obvious answer.

"Yeah, we are." Skye blushed as she went over to lick Chase's cheek.

The two pups ran quickly to the Lookout Tower, which is nearby from the beach. They didn't care that they were walking through the rain—because they're doing it together. As a new couple.

Once they arrived, the rest of the pups and Ryder were already there, inside. Marshall was upstairs, playing a game, and Rocky, Rubble, and Zuma were downstairs with Ryder.

"Hey, dudes! Where have you two been?" Zuma asked out of the blue.

Chase and Skye started reddened frantically. They were only a little wet.

"We were just on a little walk. Nothing much." Skye blushed lightly.

"Hi, Ryder!" Chase slightly smiled.

"Hey, Chase, and Skye! Did you have a good time out?" Ryder grinned.

"We did." Skye proclaimed, "We also have a little announcement to make about us two."

The Mixed-Breed, Chocolate Labrador, Bulldog, and human kid turned over to the new couple, awaiting the announcement curiously.

"We're dating!" Chase declared eagerly.

"Really?! Congratulations!" Ryder hugged both Chase and Skye.

"I guess I'll go to the others now—wait, what?!" Marshall heard all the commotion.

The Dalmatian just heard the message that the German Shepherd and Cockapoo are now dating, which made Marshall feel worse than he already was.

"If Chase can get a girlfriend, why can't I?" he wondered to himself as he went to the other pups, "I knew it was too good to be true."

"Alright, pups. Since it's been a while and all of you have been working hard, I think that you need a break." Ryder announced.

This got eager looks on the other pups' faces.

"Are we going on a vacation, Ryder?" Marshall's face lit up.

Even if he was sad, he's a little happy that they would go on a vacation after lots of stress. From missions to friendship problems, he needs a break.

"Sure! How about a vacation to Barkingburg! We can tour the city and relax for about a week. I'll call the Princess to see!" Ryder grabbed his pup pad to make a call, "I'm about to call her right now."

"That's great, dude!" Zuma beamed.
