Chapter 28: Six Months Later...
I was standing in front of a closed door, wearing an absolutely wonderful wedding gown, my arm linked with my dad's.
Yep. It was finally the big day. The day where I would get married to Daveed and become Mrs. Diggs.
I was having a panic attack. My heart was pounding out of my chest, and every part of me was shaking.
My dad noticed this and smiled at me. "Hey. Calm down. You're gonna do great, okay? You love Daveed, right?"
I nodded. "I do. So much."
"And does he love you?"
As far as I know, I thought, suddenly becoming unsure if he did or not. But I said anyway, "Yes."
"Then you have nothing to worry about," my dad said, patting my head with his free hand.
"Don't mess up my hair—!" I hissed, pulling away slightly. Our arms were still linked, though.
My dad laughed, and then...
The door opened and an organ began to play.
Oh, shit. The time was already here.
I began to walk down the aisle, slowly, so everyone could see me (that was what my mom always said to do) and soon after I had began walking, I looked up and saw Daveed standing a bit away from me, looking as handsome as ever.
Subconsciously, I rested a hand on my rather large stomach. I couldn't believe I had scored such a good man and that I was going to have two twin girls with him...
Eventually, I made it to Daveed.
He looked into my eyes for a moment, looking happily stunned over something. Then, he whispered, "(Y/N), I have never seen anyone look as beautiful as you do right now..."
My face heated up. We had been together for a long while at this point, yet he could still make me flustered whenever he wanted to.
"And you look very handsome," I said with a smile.
Daveed smiled also then held out his hands, silently asking me to grab them.
I obliged.
The priest that was located at the podium thing in behind us began his speech. "Ladies and gentlemen, we are gathered here today to join this man and this woman."
I literally don't remember anything else the priest said. I was too busy staring into Daveed's eyes, watching them sparkle and feeling how he subtly squeezed my hands every once and a while.
Before I knew it, it was time to recite our vows.
I went first. I blushed, suddenly feeling quite embarrassed over the fact that I would be speaking in front of hundreds of people (it was easily hundreds, since Daveed and I were quite popular). I swallowed my nervousness and started talking.
"Well...ahem...before I say anything else, Daveed," I began, "I have no idea how I scored a man as amazing as you. I was expecting to be marrying someone who looked like Beast Boy from 'Teen Titans Go!'."
Everybody laughed.
Daveed especially, since he was probably the only adult in that room who watched the show.
I smiled. "Anyway, all jokes aside, you are my world, Daveed. You comfort me when I'm sad, your laugh brightens my mood, you shed your hair in the salad you make and it nearly chokes me to death—"
More laughs.
"I don't mind almost dying every time you make salad for me though. Your deadly hair is a part of you, and I love every part of you. I honestly wouldn't be able to function if you weren't around." I smiled. "The point is, I love you, and I simply cannot wait to get married to you."
A chorus of "aww"s rang out from the...audience??? Is that what you call the people who watch a wedding ceremony??? If it's not, I don't care. The audience then clapped.
Then it was Daveed's turn. He squinted at me as he began. "First of all, hardly any of my hair gets in the salad I make." He turned to the audience. "I just wanted to clear that up."
I giggled along with the audience.
"But, (Y/N), I love you more than life itself. I'd die for what you love, I'd slit my throat for you."
I tried not to laugh at the reference to "guns.up" Daveed made. I also kinda thought that was a little inappropriate to say in front of a priest, but there was a good message behind what he was saying.
"I even love you more than Soccer, which is really saying something!" Daveed continued, smiling.
More laughs.
"When we got together...a happiness I can't describe washed over me, and it hasn't left. In fact, it's increased over the months. And I know I'm gonna continue to feel this happy as long as you're by my side. So I, too, cannot wait to marry you, and I want you to know how excited I am to grow old with the best person in the world."
More "awww"s and applause.
More words from the priest I can't remember.
Before I knew it, rings were on both my and Daveed's ring fingers, and it was time for our "I do"s.
"Do you, (Y/N) (L/N), take Daveed Diggs to be your lawfully wedded husband? In sickness and in health, 'til death do you part?" the priest asked.
I did not hesitate before answering. "I do."
"And do you, Daveed Diggs, take (Y/N) (L/N) to be your lawfully wedded wife? In sickness and in health, 'til death do you part?"
Daveed also answered without hesitation. "I do."
My stomach did a happy somersault.
"You may now kiss the bride!" the priest cried out.
I smiled as Daveed moved my long veil away from my face. "I love you," he whispered, connecting our lips before I could respond.
The audience cheered, clapped, whooped. Although the sound of them doing these things were muffled to me, since the noise of the happiness I felt was so loud.
The kiss was deep and passionate. It was as if Daveed was promising that our love would never die. That it would live on forever, no matter what the circumstances were.
Daveed and I pulled apart at the same time, smiling at each other.
I may not be able to flawlessly predict the future (you should see me when I guarantee Daveed that I'm gonna win a game and lose completely), but I knew that Daveed and I were gonna have an amazing life together. Sure, there would be a lot of falling.
But I knew that we would always help each other up if we fell.
And Daveed was gonna have to catch me a bunch, considering I'm the clumsiest person on planet Earth.
