I knocked on the door of Daveed Diggs' house, my boyfriend Luca standing a bit behind me. We were gonna be hanging out with Daveed and his girlfriend. "I'm so excited!" Luca chirped, brushing his brown, shaggy hair out of his blue eyes. "I haven't see Jalene in so long!"
I rolled my eyes. "You saw her just a few days ago, babe."
"I know!" Luca whined. "That's way too long!"
I sighed, giggling quietly. Oh, him and Jalene. Luca was extremely close to Jalene Goodwin, Daveed's girlfriend, while I was much closer to Mr. Diggs himself. He had been my best friend ever since kindergarten. It's weird to think that a friendship could even last that long.
My mind started to think about the time Daveed and I had first met.
I smiled to myself. Ah, what a wonderful day that was...
~Kindergarten flashback that no one asked for!!!~
Humming a tune, five-year-old me was clutching a blue crayon, using it to make a strange creation of scribbles. I was enjoying being an anti-social brat while all the other kids ran around and talked to each other.
But my peace had to be ruined by a tall kid approaching me, turning his head to the side curiously. "What're you drawing?" he asked, eyeing my abomination.
"Uh...just a pony..," I mumbled in response, looking up at the kid.
He had light brown skin, had brown eyes, and the floofiest hair I've ever seen. To this day, I've never seen hair that floofy. He smiled. "Looks good!" the kid said, sitting down beside me.
My shyness levels increased. "Th-thanks..," I stammered, putting down the blue crayon and studying the "pony" I had made.
"What's your name?" the kid asked. He clearly did not get the hint that I wanted to be left alone.
But I couldn't just say that. Do you know how crushing that would be to a five-year-old? Besides, he'd probably snitch on me.
So I sighed and defeatedly turned to him. "(Y-Y/N) (L/N). What about you..?"
The kid held out his hand with another friendly smile. "Daveed Diggs. Nice to meet you."
I almost told the kid called Daveed that his name was the strangest thing I'd ever heard, but even at five years old, I knew I had to have somewhat of a filter. "Nice to meet you as well," I said, letting a small smile slip for the first time, shaking his hand.
Daveed got a piece of paper and grabbed the blue crayon that I was previously using. "Hey, can I draw with you?"
I thought for a minute. Daveed didn't seem that bad, and I definitely needed a friend. So I nodded. "Sure."
Daveed began scribbling on his own piece of paper, his creation even more bizarre than mine. But I had to give him credit for trying. His drawing made me snort, and once I did, I immediately regretted it.
Daveed looked over at me with those brown eyes of his, making me turn my head away. I grabbed another piece of paper, hoping that Daveed would still wanna hang out with me.
To my surprise, Daveed chuckled, making me look back at him. "I know, right?" he said. "I'm a bad drawer."
I smiled. "You'll get better."
Daveed smiled back. "I don't think I will, but thanks."
For the rest of the day, we colored like the carefree children we were.
And we've been friends ever since.
~Flashback over!~
Right as my flashback came to a close, Daveed's door did the opposite.
It opened.
It revealed Daveed smiling at Luca and Jalene on his arm.
Bleh. She was always a bit clingy.
"Hey, guys!" Daveed smiled, his eyes twinkling with excitement. "Please, come in!"
I smiled. Daveed looked exactly the same as he did when he was in kindergarten. Save for the facial hair and his gorgeous newfound muscles...
I shook my head to myself. Ew. Why would I be thinking that about Daveed..?
Brushing my weird thoughts off, I smiled once more. "Thanks for inviting us, Dav," I said as I stepped inside, Luca at my heels.
"No problem!" Daveed responded as he wrapped an arm around Jalene. "Jalene and I felt we needed to have some fun tonight, so..," Daveed shook off Jalene and elbowed me, "I thought we'd call the mayor of fun and her boyfriend!"
I rolled my eyes. "You're so corny, Dav."
Daveed shrugged. "I can't help it that I'm funny."
I smirked. "I never said you were funny~" I teased, sitting on the couch.
"Rude," Daveed scoffed, crossing his arms.
"I'm just telling the tr--" I started to say, but got cut off by Daveed and Jalene's wonderful dog, Soccer, coming into the room and jumping onto my lap forecfully, "oof!" I gasped.
Daveed chuckled. "Soccer doesn't like it when you insult his father."
I rolled my eyes and petted the small bundle of energy. Soccer rewarded me by licking my face. "Maybe Soccer is just excited that someone's putting you in your place."
Daveed placed a hand on his chest, pretending to look hurt as he sat on the couch next to me. "Ouch."
Jalene giggled, walking up to Soccer and I, scratching behind his ears. "You poor boy. You didn't wanna be dragged into this, did you?"
Soccer let out a happy bark, his tail swaying from side to side.
"See?" Jalene said, patting his head.
Luca chuckled. "So. Who wants some drinks?"
"I do!" Daveed, Jalene, and I all said enthusiastically.
Luca chuckled. "All right. What do you all want?"
"Red wine, please!" I smiled.
Luca nodded. "Daveed? What about you?" he asked, looking over at Daveed.
Daveed thought for a minute before answering, "A bottle of beer will do. Thanks."
Luca nodded once more, turning to Jalene. "I'm assuming you want the usual?"
Jalene nodded. "Yep. But I'm gonna watch you make it. I don't want you to mess it up."
Luca scoffed. "You actually think I'm gonna mess it up?"
"You mess up everything else, don't you?" Jalene said with a taunting smirk.
Daveed and I gasped dramatically. "Roasted!" I said.
Luca rolled his eyes. "Fine. You can watch me make it," he said, walking into the kitchen, Jalene following.
Needless to say, Daveed and I were alone.
We both looked at each other at the same time.
We talked about a lot of random stuff, and that's when I began to study Daveed's features.
He was...kind of hot...
Maybe even hotter than Luca.
I shook my head to myself. I had a boyfriend, and I needed to keep my mind straight.
As we talked more, I realized how wonderful Daveed's personality was, and I honestly didn't know how I didn't see it sooner. He was pretty much the whole package.
Hot.
Kind.
Funny.
Very hot.
Extremely hot.
I once again shook my head to myself, trying to rid those thoughts from my mind.
Daveed noticed how much I was shaking my head. "Are you all right?" he asked, his eyebrows knitting with concern.
I nodded. "Yeah...I'm fine..," I mumbled, looking down.
"You don't seem it," Daveed said. He smirked. "You're shaking your head like a crazy person over there."
I kept my eyes on the ground. "I'm fine, all right?"
That's when Daveed put a finger under my chin and lifted it up so I was looking him in the eye. "You know you can tell me anything, right?"
I nodded, his brown eyes hypnotizing me.
That's when I realized:
I loved him.
I always had. That explains the hot feeling I felt whenever Daveed put an arm around me for a picture or laughed his adorable laugh.
A voice in my head told me to think about Luca, while another was telling me to kiss Daveed.
The voice that was telling me to kiss Daveed was stronger.
I pressed my lips to Daveed's without thinking about the consequences.
As soon as I did though, I thought, What the fuck did I just do?
