Teamwork
A/N: Since I can't update Help Wanted today, I'll just go ahead and update this book to make up for it. I'll still post an update tomorrow as well😁
"So, what did I miss?" Mark panted as he jogged into the room up to Marvin, Chase already with him.
"I just finished fighting Matthew Patrick and Rosanna Pansino with Lily Singh, it was pretty easy since neither of them had offensive quirks while both Lily and I did." Marvin replied proudly, Chase beaming as he hugged his brother.
"Good job bro! Sorry I missed your fight, I'm sure that it was epic." Chase apologized, the group falling silent as Jackaboy picked the next teams.
"Alright everyone, next up we have Thomas Sanders and Ethan Nestor versus Nathan Sharp and Jenna Mourey." Jackaboy stated, the four named teens entering the elevator.
"Good luck!" Mark shouted after his friend, waving goodbye to him as the elevator doors slowly slid shut.
"Now, are both teams ready?" Jackaboy prompted as he stood off to the side, the two pairs of heroes in training facing each other with clenched fists and determined stances.
"Go!" Jackaboy commanded, mentally taking notes as the teens used their quirks against their opponents.
Jenna quickly shifted into a German Shepherd and leaped at Ethan's arm, the flexible male bending out of the way with wide eyes while Nate stared down Thomas.
"What are you going to do?" Nate taunted as Thomas grinned passively, four identical clones of him rising from the ground.
"Logan, what's the strategy?" Thomas questioned the clone dressed in a black shirt with a tie, the male adjusting his glasses as he examined Nate carefully.
"We should defend until we know our opponent's quirk, then I will work on finding a weakness." Logan stated matter of factly.
"I will defend you Thomas!" The royal clone declared as he stepped forward with his fists raised.
"Aw, go get them Roman!" The clone similar to Logan with a cardigan draped over their shoulders cheered enthusiastically.
"I'd much rather be sleeping right now Patton, why was I dragged here for this?" The purple clad clone grumbled sourly as he folded his arms across his chest, moodily glaring at Nate.
"What the hell?" Nate murmured in disbelief, unsure of how to use his quirk against them all at once as he took a tentative step back.
"These are the Sanders Sides and we," Thomas paused as he gestured at the identical clones before standing in a defensive position.
"We aren't giving up so easily."
"Good." Nate retorted as he focused his quirk on the moody clone, singing softly under his breath to manipulate his fear.
"Really? My name's Virgil, I'm the embodiment of Thomas's fear, and you're trying to use your quirk to manipulate my fear?" The dark clone scoffed as he rolled his eyes, Roman smirking victoriously as Logan mumbled incoherently under his breath.
"It's simple, we just have to keep Nate from singing, then we can take him out." Logan blurted, Thomas nodding as Roman charged towards Nate.
"Ooh, take him out where?" Patton interjected curiously, Logan sighing while Thomas snickered in response.
Jenna broke away from her fight against Ethan just in time to tackle Roman to the ground with a bark, Patton gasping excitedly as he ran forward with his hands outstretched.
"Puppy!" He squealed before Jenna snarled at him, causing the side to stop in his tracks before Logan pulled him away.
"Patton, it is unwise to approach a dangerous dog-"
"But Logan, they're so cute! Hey, where'd that girl go?" Patton interrupted, looking around him while Logan sighed once more and shook his head in defeat.
"Thanks." Nate nodded in appreciation to Jenna, taking a deep breath to steel himself as he faced the remaining four to try and make a plan.
What he wasn't planning for was Virgil charging forward and effortlessly punching Nate hard enough in the face to knock him out.
"I ran out of patience." Virgil shrugged, brushing off Thomas's disapproving look as he returned to the others.
"Back foul beast from whence you came!" Roman demanded through gritted teeth as he kept Jenna's snapping jaws away from him with his bare hands.
"Pump the brakes Princey!" Thomas snapped, the prince quickly remembering who the dog truly was.
"Right right, sorry." Roman replied hastily as he managed to shove Jenna away from him, allowing her enough space to change into a pit bull.
"I can't hit a girl, or a dog for that matter!" Roman cried as he slowly backed away from Jenna, the pitbull baring her teeth with a menacing growl.
"Yeah, that's not really my thing either." Virgil chimed in, shoving his hands into the pockets of his hoodie.
"Wait..." Logan trailed off as he glanced between Roman and Jenna, an idea forming as his expression brightened.
"Roman, do you have anything that you can throw?" Logan questioned the royal, earning a confused look in response as he reluctantly pulled one of his boots off and held it up.
Jenna abruptly stopped and stared at the shoe intently, her tail wagging happily as Roman waved the boot above his head.
"Ethan, on my mark, grab the dog." Logan directed sternly, Roman whistling to keep Jenna's attention.
"Oh, I get it!" Patton whispered as Roman finally threw his shoe, Jenna running after it as it soared through the air before landing on the other side of the room.
"Now!" Logan shouted, Ethan quickly wrapping his arms around the dog to keep her from moving.
No matter what dog breed she changed into, she couldn't escape Ethan's arms due to his flexibility.
"Team Thomas and Ethan win!" Jackaboy announced, clapping the winners on the back as they returned to the elevator with Nate sling over Ethan's shoulder.
"That was fun!" Jenna exclaimed as she returned to human form, brushing her hair out of her face as Thomas offered her a smile.
"You did great!" Thomas replied happily, extending a hand towards her as a sign of friendship.
She happily shook his hand as they entered the elevator, Nate waking up as the elevator began moving up.
"What the...." Nate trailed off as Ethan let him off of his shoulder, the dark haired male gradually remembering what had happened.
"I...I lost." Nate murmured remorsefully, bowing his head as Jackaboy gently placed a hand on his shoulder.
"You fought well Nate, you just need to focus on using more than your quirk in a fight." Jackaboy advised, Nate looking up at the teacher.
"I-I'm not upset that I lost, I just...I feel like I failed Jenna." Nate admitted, glancing over at the girl with an apologetic expression.
"Don't worry, I didn't really help either of us out in that fight." Jenna assured Nate as the elevator doors opened, the male smiling slightly as he stepped out with the others.
"So, there are six students left." Jackaboy informed the crowd of teens, watching them whisper amongst themselves until they fell silent.
"There will be two teens that will face each other solo, and I know just who it will be." Jackaboy continued, looking at Mark.
"Mark Fischbach, you will be fighting Tyler Schied after the other four students go." Jackaboy announced, Mark's heart pounding as he looked over at his friend.
Tyler's gaze was focused on the floor as he absorbed the pro hero's words, the expression on his face unreadable as the look in his gunmetal blue eyes changed.
"As far as the teams, it will be Chase Brody and Robbie McLoughlin against Matthew Fredrick and Jameson Jackson." Jackaboy added, ushering the four into the elevator.
"I hope their fight ends quickly, I want to get this over with." Tyler muttered as the elevator doors slid shut.
"Yeah," Mark agreed as he thought of how he could beat one of his best friends since childhood in a fight.
"Me too."
