Chapter 46

I woke up to a nasty hangover the next morning, but a quick sip of the water I'd wisely left by my bed last night and I was fine. I love that ability. I notice little Rune curled up on the end of the bed, sleeping peacefully. I'll have to get her a place to sleep at some point, one of her very own. And a lot of other things, actually. Like food. Thor said that regular dog food would be fine, but that she would eat practically anything, especially meat. I'll have to go shopping at some point for her.

As if on cue, there's a knock at the door. I open it to Wanda. Since staying here due to Fury's actions, I have learned that she is a morning person. She didn't drink so much last night so she doesn't have a hangover. "How's the hangover?" She asks me. "After how much you had to drink last night, you must have one."

"It is null and void," I answer with a smirk. "Alcohol is simply water and a small amount of weak poison. The water in my system counteracts the poison and neutralises it. One more drink of water once a hangover begins and I am cured."

"You are very full of surprises, Lexis," Wanda chuckles. "That I am," I agree. I like being a mystery to them. "So why are you here?"

"Actually-" she held the door open a little wider to reveal Thor. "I expected you would need to buy supplies for Rune and since I know the most about her kind - aside from Loki, but he is not exactly popular on Midgard - I assumed it would be helpful to assist you in this task," he tells me.

"And I just like shopping," Wanda said, making me laugh. A yip sounded from behind me and I saw Rune herself laughing along with me. "Would you like to get your own things, lycanus minscale?" I ask her. She cocks her head curiously, then carefully picks up my necklace from the bedside table - it wasn't comfortable to sleep in, I have a habit of lying on my stomach and having a gemstone digging into your neck isn't exactly pleasant - and trots over to me. I smile and take the necklace from her, petting her. "Thank you, Rune. The mortals give their dogs a collar to wear, which is like a necklace. You may not be a dog, but would you like a collar of your own?"

She nods eagerly, her thoughts turning to how she'll look wearing a collar. She's imagining so many adorable ones that I can't help but smile. "Give me a few minutes to get ready," I tell Wanda and Thor. "Then we can leave when you wish."

They both nod and leave. I change into a pair of jeans and a plain red top, adding a pair of black flats. I'm getting better at naming clothes. I brush my hair out, then put on my necklace, the amethyst (or amethyst-looking, I'm not sure what it is exactly if it's Asgardian) gem twinkling in the light.

Rune walks around me when I leave the bathroom and she sees my change of clothes. You look good, she decides. "Thank you," I smile slightly to her. I don't tend to smile often, don't ask me why. "With all those collars you imagined earlier, I am sure you will look even better by the end of the day. We can get you a brush, too."

She starts imagining herself again, coat all glossy and shiny, a collar around her neck that keeps changing every time she has a new idea about its appearance. I chuckle.

"Come on, we should get to Wanda and Thor," I tell her. She nods and trots along next to me. We find Wanda and Thor in the penthouse, Thor dressed in everyday clothing rather than his Asgardian attire. Wanda turns as we enter, smiling. "Hey, Lexis. Oh, and hello, Rune."

Rune, happy to be included, goes over for petting. Wanda does not disappoint and Rune decides she likes her. Good. Thor comes over to me, his usual happy grin on his face. "Are you ready to go, Lady Lexis?" He asks me.

"I believe so," I confirm. He nods and Wanda hands me something familiar. "Stark told me to give you that permanently," she said. "He said he'll keep it topped up."

I look at the 'credit card' in my hand, deciding to thank him later. "Generous," I remark currently. Wanda chuckles. "He claims its a drop in the bucket for him, whatever that's supposed to mean. Now let's go."

We head out, Rune at my heels the whole time. As apparently none of us really know how to drive (I'm sure Wanda could do it, but neither she nor Thor have a 'driver's licence') we walk instead of taking a car.

Rune visibly enjoys the walk, hopping beside me with a tail wagging like a blade to a victim, her nose sniffing out everything it could. Her mind was filled with excitement and curiosity every step of the way. It was difficult not to look at her and 'aw' at her. Several children did just that when we crossed paths.

"Rune is popular," Wanda chuckles. "That she is," I agree. "She is very likeable, aren't you, lycanus minscale?" She nods eagerly at that, causing the mutate, the god and I to laugh.

"Lycanus minscale... lycan... min-scale... are you calling her 'little wolf'?" Wanda guesses. "I am," I nod. "I am impressed."

"I have decided to attempt to translate what you say," Wanda tells me. "It is an engaging pastime, to say the least." "What have you translated so far?" I ask, curious. "Mostly curses," she chuckles. "You're lucky it was me who chose to translate and not Steve."

Thor bellowed a laugh. "Such foul language for such a fair maiden," he teases me. "But at least you use the language we cannot understand."
