Kyra
Zane's POV
I walked over and picked her up gently. She whimpered and shifted. She was small, just under 5'2", and looked like she hadn't slept in days. It was pitch black, and I would have had a hard time seeing my hand in front of my eyes, and a much harder time seeing her face. "Nod if you can hear me," I said as softly as I could. She nodded weakly, her hair tumbling to the deck. The last time she had slept had probably been around the time she had had a full meal.
I speed walked inside, the poor girl asleep in my arms. The dining hall was empty; the others had probably gone looking for me. I hurried upstairs into the spare bedroom. It was empty, save for Nya. She was on her stomach, looking for something under the bed. When she heard the door creak open, she gave a small gasp and jumped up, hitting her head in the process.
I set the girl on the bed. Nya crept up behind me. Her brow was furrowed. "Do I want to know?" She asked me. I told her everything, starting at dinner and ending in the guest room. "Could you please get Kai? My sensors indicate that she's about ten degrees colder than she should be. She'll warm faster if he's in the room." She nodded, and ran out the door.
With the soft light of the candles, I could now see the girls face. She had pale skin, and her ebony hair had multiple dark feathers braided in. She was sporting a soft white t-shirt, yoga pants, bare feet, and many small abrasions.
With a start, her eyes flew open, and I was momentarily shocked. Humans, biologically speaking, don't have yellow eyes. Save this girl. Her gaze shot wildly around the room, landing on me. She shrank back a little. I looked at her a moment longer before asking her, "What's your name?" She answered in one word before she fell back asleep.
"Kyra"
