Chapter 8

That, my friends, is how Darren looks. He is played by Ben Barnes, and I think he is hot:P

And if you're planning to go search up on Ben Barnes to get a better idea of how Darren looks, remember that Darren has short hair, like the photo I've attached above, unlike Ben's current hairstyle. If you want to see more photos, I would gladly attach more in the upcoming chapters:)

And, uh, did the update come a bit late? I feel I am updating too slowly... If you feel I am, please let me know.

Now, READ.

Darren

Darren quietly climbed up the stairs. No need to be caught already. He reached the rafters of the venue and looked down through the gaps. Women were already walking the catwalk. He couldn't only see glimpses.

Holding the suitcase in one hand, he carefully began to walk onto one of the rafter ties. This section of the rafters was such that it was hidden in darkness. He could look down and see everybody and everything, but nobody that was down there could see him.

He stopped after a few seconds of treading quietly, right next to the front of the catwalk. Right then, some lady stopped at the front, flipped her hair and made a pose. The sound of cameras clicking intensified.

Darren slowly knelt down, to make sure that the rafter tie didn't break. If it did, he would land on some dozen people, and would break a few bones himself. Not to mention the fact that people would question why he was up there in the first place. Of course he couldn't tell them he was there to kill someone.

He slowly opened the suitcase, and pulled out a rifle quietly. He switched on the silencer. The rafter tie creaked ever so slightly. Darren became rigid. Nobody down seemed to have heard the creak. He placed the rifle on his shoulder and looked down. There was a man on stage right then, probably the designer of the whole show. He was talking animatedly into a mike.

Darren placed his eye to the telescopic sight on the rifle, and pointed the rifle downward. He first zoomed in on the stage. The man was still talking, and pointed towards the back of the stage, where a woman came out in a short and quite revealing dress. That's what they called fashion these days.

Darren focused on the man's head, zooming in and out to make way for the perfect shot. He was so helpless. Darren could kill him anytime he wanted to. But he didn't. That wasn't his motive.

Instead, Darren slowly pointed the rifle upwards. He stopped at a woman seated a few rows away from the stage. Chloe Garnett. She was wearing a short white dress, slightly above her knees, her hair let free. She had a bored expression on her face. She was too far away, so Darren couldn't see her eyes.

Seeing her, his doubts rose again. Could it be her? Darren shook his head. No. He couldn't let his uncertainty cloud his mind. It wasn't her. She was already dead. This girl was gonna join her soon.

He aimed it at her head. She was slightly slumped in her chair, her eyes following the moving figures on stage. She didn't seem to be moving. It was a perfect shot. Easy enough.

His finger tightened on the trigger, waiting a few seconds. He pushed the trigger in fully. Just then, she moved to her left. The bullet missed her, inches away from her pretty head full of hair. It went straight into the chest of the man behind her instead. Even from this far away, Darren could see the blood on his shirt.

Some woman began to cry. A model standing on the stage fainted. The designer was ashen faced.

Darren cursed quietly and quickly put the rifle into the case. He shut the case with a snap, and looked down. She was looking in his direction. Had she heard him? She looked at the man next to her, and then got up.

Darren also got up, a bit too quickly in fact. The rafter tie wobbled ever so slightly. Darren stood still. Putting one foot in front of the other, he got off the rafter tie. He opened the door to the stairwell, and practically flew down the stairs. He left the suitcase near the stairwell, where he knew it would be picked up, and walked slowly away from it.

He had no idea what had happened. He had heard someone scream, and he was trying to find out what was going on. It sounded like a good enough alibi if someone caught him.

He passed through a few rooms, all of them empty, trying to avoid people if he could. It was better if he could make it out without being noticed.

Most of the rooms had either no lights, or a tiny light on. He slowed at a long hall-like room. It was dimly lit, and he could see a few metres in front of him. There were shadows in every nook and corner of the room. He started to walk again, and again came to a still. Chloe Garnett was in front of him.

She stood at the very edge of the shadows, but she was still seen quite clearly by Darren. Like when he was seeing the photo, her eyes were the most striking thing. They were a deep, beautiful grey.

She stepped into the light, a slight smile on her face. "And so, we meet," she said calmly.

Darren tilted his head, still observing her. "You know me, then?" he asked.

"Yes, I do, Mr Newfeld. The same way, I'm sure, you know me."

She swiftly pulled out a knife from her boot and lunged at him. He blocked the knife, and wrapped his hand around her wrist, twisting her hand. She punched him with her other hand, her fist connecting with his face.

He let go of her hand, and she quickly assumed a defensive position, knife hand out in front of her. Darren wiped the blood from his nose and called out, "You're better than I thought."

"Well, you obviously thought bad of me."

Darren chuckled. "Yes, I did."

She thrust the knife at him again. He stepped to the side, and grabbed her knife. He seized her hand and pulled her close, curling his hand around her waist, her back to him, and placed the knife at her neck.
