Chapter 14

Darren

Home. That's what it felt like. His lips against hers. His hands in her hair. It felt like before. It felt like he belonged there. After years of searching for some break, some sort of closure from her "death", having her in his arms was perfect. It was where he belonged. And he wanted to believe that everything was alright. That she had never faked her death and become an assassin with super powers. That he had never become a contract killer. That they were still continuing life together, and this was just one of their many beautiful moments together. He was to happy continue living that dream.

So when she abruptly pulled away, and looked at him in shock, her eyes wide, breathing hard, like she didn't know what she had been doing, like she regretted it, it broke his heart.

Looking at her, her swollen lips, her irises a mixture of swirling grays, a single strand of hair on her face- it took every bit of his willpower not to kiss her again.

"What do you think you were doing?" she mumbled. She didn't sound very sure of herself though.

Using all his mental strength, rebelling against every instinct in his body, he slowly extracted his hands from her hair, ignoring his subconscious, which was screaming at him to tuck the strand of hair behind her ear, to crush his lips into hers again. He let his hands hang loosely by his side. He knew if he kept looking at her, he would lose his self control, so he looked at the ground, and stood up.

"Sorry," he murmured. "I'll make sure you get some food." He was talking so quietly, he doubted she heard what he said. He turned around and walked away. Before he lost his normal composure again.

His legs stopped of their own accord at the door. He wanted to whirl around and stay there, memorizing every inch of her face. But he couldn't. No. It would make things worse.

He forced his hands to turn the handle of the door, his legs to continue their movement away from her. He quickly slipped out the door, making sure she didn't get a view of outside the room.

He walked swiftly to the kitchen, where his mother was seated. She was reading a book. She looked up at Darren as he entered the room. "Is everything alright, Daz?" she asked. He nodded. "Food, for her," he said simply.

Her eyes widened in understanding, and she nodded, before getting up to get something ready for her to eat.

Darren watched his mother cook, making sure to pay close attention to what she's doing, because if he let his mind wander, it would go back to her. And he couldn't allow that to happen.

His mother finished plating the dish and placed it on the kitchen island. She had made some type of pasta. "Is this fine, Daz?" she asked. He nodded in response. "Can you give it to her, please?" he asked, hoping that he was expressing all the reasons behind his request through his eyes. Her eyes softened. "Of course," she replied.

She picked up the plate, and walked towards the room Fel was in. Darren continued to sit there in the kitchen. He heard the soft click of the door. After a few moments, he got up and walked to the room as well. As he came to a stop close to the door, he heard the clink of the plate being set on the floor. "For you, sweetie," his mother said, her voice filled with emotion. Fel had been like a daughter to his mom, and Fel had looked up at her like the mother she lost as a child.

"Uh... thank you..." she drifted off. There was silence for a few moments. "Well, go on then, begin eating!" his mother encouraged. Jane didn't like it when people refused to not try her food.

"Yeah, um..." He imagined that Fel was showing his mother her tied up hands. "Oh!" his mother gasped. "I'll ask him if we can untie you, dear. You must be starving." A moment of silence. "Oh, and Mrs... uh..." Of course, Fel didn't remember his mother's name. He could picture his mother's sad face, tears in her eyes. "It's Jane, dear," his mother replied softly.

"Yes, um, can I have clothes? To change into? This dress was a one night thing so..."

"Of course, sweetie! I'll check if we have something your size!"

A few moments of silence. Steps, getting louder and louder. The door opened a little and his mother slipped out. Darren was standing on the other side so she didn't see him. "Darren, she can't-"

"I heard, Mum." She jumped back from shock. "You were standing outside all this time?" she loudly whispered. Darren gave a nod. "Then, go untie her," she said.

"I don't know about that..." Darren hesitated. "Why not?" she questioned. "What if she tries to escape? I can't let her go back. They'll ruin her even more," his answer ending in a whisper. He was scared. For her.

"No, Darren, she won't. I'm sure," his mother assured him. Darren nodded slightly. "Okay," he said. "I'll go get her some clothes," she replied. He nodded again, and turned to the door. His hand gripped the handle and after a deep breath, he pushed down. The door opened a little, and he slid inside.

She was staring at the food with an intense look on her face. She was probably hungry. She was hunched over, her hair falling in her face. She was still wearing her white dress, and her hands were behind her back. Of course they were. They were tied.

He remembered their kiss, and looking at her, he wanted to do it again. But, no. He wouldn't. He had to get her to trust him, and she obviously wouldn't do that if he randomly kissed her.

But what he didn't understand was, she had kissed him back. She hadn't immediately pushed him away, like any normal kidnapped girl would do. She had actually kissed him back. He didn't know what sense to make of that.

She still hadn't realized that he was in the room when he lightly shut the door behind him. She started, and looked up at him. Red immediately covered her cheeks.

"I heard that you can't eat because of..." He nodded at her bonds. "Yeah," she replied. He walked towards her, and she moved a little backwards. He stopped next to her, and knelt to the ground. "Turn a little," he said to her. She raised her eyes in disbelief. "You're ACTUALLY gonna remove the rope?" she scoffed. "Yeah, I am. Not gonna cut your wrists. I'm gonna cut your ropes," he replied calmly. Wow, he was actually acting calm in front of her. He would do anything to just touch her face, wipe away the frown, the lack of conviction.

"How come? Aren't you scared I'm gonna escape?" she questioned, turning so that her back was facing him. Darren looked at her wrists. There was a tight rope tied around them. For some reason, he always preferred ropes ot handcuffs.

"I trust you," he replied, pulling out a Swiss knife from the back pocket of his pants.

"You TRUST me?" she sneered.

"I trust your curiosity," Darren corrected himself. He started sawing into the rope, taking care not to cut her hand.

"That's quite dangerous."

"I suppose it is." The rope fell apart. She immediately brought her hands in front of her. There were red marks all around her wrists.

He got up, folding the knife and placing it back in his pocket. He turned around and started walking towards the door. "You know, they can track me down," she piped up.

Darren stopped in his tracks, and looked back at her. She was facing front again, playing around with the food on her plate with a fork. He chuckled in response. "Not anymore, they can't," he said. She looked up at him.

"I removed the tracker. From your lower abdomen." Her mouth fell open. He started walkng again. He had almost reached the door, when she said, "I have another tracker."
