《 Chapter 5: Coming Home 》
Xiuying watches her friends play arcade machine. After the incident with Mk's duplication, she was lucky not to get into that mess. She even have to help Mk save her friends from them if he haven't begged her. Mushu also help take care of the job and gave Mk a long scolding, which terrified the poor boy.
"Button mash all you want, Mk. You'll never beat my Ancient Galloping Fury Power." Mei grinned cockily, winning against him.
"Yeah! Beat his butt, girl!" Mushu cheered on for Mei.
"Up smash, up smash!" Sandy said, encouraging Mk to beat Mei.
"I'm trying, Sandy. Okay? I'm trying, I'm trying." Mk whined, feeling frustrated on loosing.
"No one can defeat me." she laughed.
Mei's phone starts ringing, causing her to frown to see her mother's profile. Xiuying notices it and get concerned.
"Oh boy." Mei said.
She then answers it. With her back turned, Mk giggles evilly and starts cheating as he beats her character. Mushu notices and glares. He tries to push his hands away from the controls, but Mk keeps his grip on and plays on.
"Hi, Mom. Yes. Of course. Yes, Mother."
Mei then hangs up.
"Hey, you okay there, Mei?" Sandy asked with concern.
"Yeah. It's just --"
Mk laughs as he beats Mei's video game avatar. Mushu groans and slaps him on the head with his tail. But that was not the problem as Mei explains.
"My parents -- they want me to housesit."
"And that's a bad thing?" Xiuying asked, noticing her downcast face.
"No. Me and my parents, we --"
Mk's eyes glints at the information he misheard.
"Uh, did Mei say sleepover at her house?"
"What? No. My parents would want --"
"Sleepover!"
"Mk, I think you misunderstood what she just said and she's--"
Mk ignores Xiuying as he mutters to himself before turning to Mei.
"I've always wanted to see inside Mei's secret Dragon House full of secret dragon stuff. Come on, please? Please, please, please, please, please?"
Mei sighs in defeat after seeing Mk's puppy eyes.
"Sleepover it is."
"Ah yeah! This sleepover is going to be amazing. You know what? I'll bring my Monkey King DVDs so we can have a marathon."
Xiuying turns to Mei.
"Are you sure you're okay with this?" she asked.
"It's fine. It would be great to have fun with you guys." Mei assured her.
"Alright."
Little did they know, General Ironclad listens in on their conversation from a distance.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Mk, Mei, Xiuying, Mushu, and Sandy arrive at Mei's house, The Dragon Temple House.
"Whoa, so this is what it's like to be a dragon." Mushu said in awe, looking around the house.
"It's even better than I thought. Growing up here must have been great." Mk gasped in awe.
Mei frowns and looks at the canvas walls.
"Yeah, I guess. But -- I don't know. When I was growing up, I just wanted to be rough and tumble. Break stuff. Look at bugs. You know, have fun just like normal girl stuff. But when your house is pretty much a museum and you come from a long line of ancient, noble dragons, that's kind of frowned on." Mei said, almost explaining everything about her past and pain.
She quickly shakes her head and regains her happiness.
"Anyway. Onwards to the definitely-not-going-to-be-terrible sleepover."
Mk and Sandy, except Xiuying and Mushu runs off to explore around the house. Mei sighs and looks at the wall. Xiuying approaches her and puts her hand on her shoulder.
"Hey, whatever is bothering you, I'm here to help."
"Yeah, we're here for you. Plus, dragon to dragon, huh?" Mushu said, elbowing Mei.
"Thanks, Xi, Mushu. But I'll be fine. We should get going before our friends get hurt."
As if on cue, the house's security system aims at MK and Sandy, but Mei disarms it with Xiuying following.
"Yeah, my parents are a bit serious about the old security thing." she mentioned.
"I wouldn't call that a bit serious." Xiuying commented, sweatdropping.
The doors opened.
"Welcome home, Mei." Security System VO greeted.
"Yeah." Mei said with an unimpressed look.
Everyone comes inside to reveal the architectures full of weapons and other things that are part of dragons. Xiuying was amazed at how big this place is. Mushu looks at every architectures without touching. He even admires himself through the reflection.
"This is amazing." Mk gasped.
"Whoa. What is all this stuff?" Sandy awed.
"Ah, you know. Gifts, artifacts, offerings. Just stuff that's been in my family for --"
Mei stops and gasps to see the boys poking around the stuff and breaking things.
"--guys. Wait!"
"Guys! Don't touch without permission! It's very dishonorable to do that!!" Xiuying scolded.
Mk climbs onto the dragon armor stand.
"Mk, get down here!" Mushu demanded.
"If I had all this stuff, I don't even know what I would do. Sell it, probably." he said.
The armor stand was about to fall after Mk pulls away if it weren't for Mei quickly stopping it. Mk grabs the golden axe to take a look for a moment before tossing it away. Xiuying catches it before it hits Mei. Mei gasps in horror to see Sandy near the dragon column as he carries it to examine.
"Yeah, this stuff looks really great. Looks like a few good years, maybe. Centuries."
More cracks and smashes were heard until Mei had enough and was about to shout but Xiuying beats her to it. Her loud angry voice echoes the entire room. Mk and Sandy froze to see Xiuying with a mad look.
"Angry Xiuying, here we come." Mushu winced, backing away from her.
"Guys, stop! Hands in pockets now." Xiuying ordered.
The boys quickly put the things back where they belong and got into their postures.
"Man, you two are so dishonorable! Dishonor! Dishonor your whole family! Dishonor you! Dishonor your cow! Dis--"
Mei quickly covers her mouth.
"Alright, alright! Calm down! I think they got the message."
Xiuying sighs and breathes in and out, now all calm. Mushu smiles to himself in proudness and fondness as he remembers saying that to Mulan.
"Follow me. You guys are such menaces, you know that?"
Mei leads them on a tour of her house as she shows them the garage full of brand new cars.
"This is the garage filled with all the awesome things I am not allowed to drive." she continued on. "This is one of our many long hallways. We also have the Celestial Jade Garden, the room with the 30 centuries of antiques, Pool of a Thousand Tears, tea and snack room, and my bedroom. And this is the Dragon Claw Chamber."
Just as they walk past the Dragon Claw Chamber, something flashes that caught Mk's attention.
"Whoa, whoa, whoa. Hold up."
Mk approaches and geeks out over the Dragon Blade.
"Whoa. Now this thing is cool. So what's the dealio with this deal, yo?"
"That's the sword of my great-great-great times a thousand great-grandfather, the Dragon of the West." Mei said, glancing at the old potrait of him. "Legends say that my grandfather imbued it with unimaginable power so that our clan would always have the strength of the dragon to protect them. Its true power will only show itself to those deemed worthy. A true member of our clan who's proven themselves strong enough to protect our family from the forces of evil. But I'm not allowed to touch it. Hey, anyone want to see the game room?"
"Yeah!"
"Alright!"
Mk and Sandy zooms off, leaving Mei and Xiuying.
"I'll go make sure those idiots don't break another stuff again." Mushu sighed, running after them.
Mei looks at the portraits of all of her family. She feels as if they're watching and judging her. She frowns and Xiuying comforts her again and guides her out of the room.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Mk excitedly fools around with the pinball machine in the game room.
"A pinball machine? I've always wanted to try one of these."
"Yeah, now this place is home. Alright. You guys boot up the old TV. I will go get some s-n-n-n-nacks. Okay, don't break anything while I'm gone!" Mei explained and then ran off.
Xiuying feels something is bothering her friend.
"I'm gonna go and help her with some snacks. Be good while we're gone." she said, whispering to Mushu. "Keep an eye on them."
Mushu nodded and saluted.
"Pfft! Relax! I won't break anything." Mk assured her.
Xiuying and Mushu puts an unimpressed look before Xiuying walks out after Mei. Mk goes to play when he breaks the pinball machine plunger. His eyes widens in horror along with Sandy.
"Noooo."
Mushu facepalms himself on the head.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
As soon as she's far away, Mei sighs and walks slowly.
"Everything okay?"
She jumps in surprise to see Xiuying.
"Oh! Xi! It's you."
"Sorry that I scared you. I just wanted to check up on you. Though I can sense you're still feeling down lately. What's up?"
Mei tries to come up with an excuse before sighing in defeat.
"Remember all those things that I said? Well, this is the problem. Whenever I tried to do something cool and be myself, everyone just... don't like it. My parents barely acknowledge me. Is there something wrong with me?"
"I don't think there's anything wrong with you. You're Mei. A crazy girl with crazy talents of making vehicles."
"Hehe. Yeah." Mei giggled sheepishly.
Xiuying puts a thoughtful look for a moment before an idea lits up.
"I think I might know something that can help."
Mei tilts her head in confusion until she finds herself in a quiet room in a meditation position.
"How is meditation going to help? I don't wanna be mean, but it's so... boring."
"You'll be surprised." Xiuying giggled, not taking it offensively. "Just breath in and out and clear your mind."
Mei did as she said as she closes her eyes, breathing in and out. Then in a flash, they found themselves in the place as Xiuying recognizes. Her old village home. Mei was confused on what was going on until she saw Fa Mulan in a beautiful dress with her makeup on.
~ CENTURIES AGO ~
The Matchmaker observes her clothes, face, and her body as she hums with a judgemental look before shaking her head.
"Huh. Hmm. Mmm. Too skinny. Hmph! Not good for bearing sons."
Cri-Kee opens and hops out of his cage, Mulan frantically tries to put him back in. She sees the Matchmaker looking at her and she quickly shoves Cri-Kee into her mouth.
"Recite the Final Admonition." Matchmaker said.
"Mmm-hmm-hmm." Mulan nodded.
Muffled chirping were heard through her closed mouth. She pulls out a paper fan and spits Cri-Kee out.
"Well?" Matchmaker asked.
"Fulfill your duties, calmly and..."
Mulan glances down at the crib notes written on her arm, which are smeared slightly.
"...respectfully. Um, reflect before you snack... Act! This shall bring you honor and glory."
She fans herself, the matchmaker grabs the fan and searches it for cheat notes. Finding none, she grabs Mulan by the arm (where the notes are!) and pulls her toward a table.
"Hmm. This way."
The writing comes off in her hand after releasing her arm.
"Now, pour the tea. To please your future in-laws, you must demonstrate a sense of dignity..."
She rubs her hand over her mouth, and the ink rubs off with a squeak, making a lookalike beard.
"...and refinement. You must also be poise."
Mulan, staring at the Matchmaker, pours the tea but misses the cup, then regains her composure and quickly fills the teacup. She notices Cri-Kee relaxing happily in the tea. The Matchmaker takes the teacup, which Mulan tries to stop her.
"Um, pardon me." Mulan started.
"And silent!" Matchmaker glared.
Mulan says nothing as the Matchmaker sniffs the tea blissfully.
"Ahhh." she sighed and was about to drink it.
Mulan grabs for the cup and tries to take it away from her.
"Could I just take that back? One moment." she asked politely.
The Matchmaker fights for the teacup, and they both fall back, the tea spilling all over the Matchmaker. Cri-Kee hops down her dress. Mulan gasps in horror. Matchmaker gets up and glares at her.
"Why, you clumsy..."
She suddenly starts to feel the cricket moving around inside her dress.
"Whoo Whoo! Aaah! Whoo! Aaah!"
She trips over the fire-pot, spilling the coals and then sitting on them, the bottom of her dress smoking. Matchmaker feels and sees that and begins to scream, running around with smoke trailing behind. Mulan desperately fans the burned spot, and it bursts into flames. The matchmaker runs around shrieking as it had gotten work. She then runs outside, shrieking and scaring the women outside.
"Put it out! Put it out! Put it out!"
Mulan throws tea over her, putting out the fire. Embarrassed, she hands the teapot to the Matchmaker and quickly walks toward Fa Li and Granny Fa. Cri-Kee runs after Mulan and hops back into the cage. The Matchmaker approaches them, panting furiously as she smashes the teapot to the ground, scaring them.
"You are a disgrace! You may look like a bride, but you will never bring your family honor!" she said then walked back inside.
People start to walk away, whispering while looking at Mulan judging. Mulan looks down in shame that she failed her chance to make her family proud.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
At the Fa farm
Mulan is greeted with a warm smile by her father, but, humiliated, she turns away and takes Khan to the stable. She looks down at herself through the reflection of the water like a mirror and starts to sing.
https://youtu.be/GcC3rYEZv9o
Look at me,
I will never pass for a perfect bride
She removes her beads around her neck to see her father and mother looking down with a sadden look.
Or a perfect daughter
Can it be, I'm not meant to play this part?
She releases Cri-Kee from the small cage before walking out. Cri-Kee critters sadly to watch her depart. She hops onto the fence of the bridge before jumping off and walking through the bridge.
Now I see that if I were truly to be myself, I will break my family's heart
Who is that girl I see, staring straight back at me?
Why is my reflection someone I don't know?
Cri-Kee paddles the pad with a stick and then hops after her as soon as he landed. Mulan heads into the temple as she walks past the tombstones, showing the reflection of herself.
Somehow I cannot hide who I am though I've tried
She bows to the tombstone as Cri-Kee comes in to watch her.
When will my reflection show who I am inside?
She wipes off the makeup to show half of her face before wiping off the other half. She turns to see herself without a makeup. Mulan then removes the ribbon to let her hair loose as they flow gracefully.
When will my reflection show who I am inside?
She sat down on the bench near the cherry blossom tree with a downed look. Someone cleared their throat and she turned to see her father. He smiles at her and sits down next to her.
"My, my, what beautiful blossoms we have this year. But look, this one's late." he said.
He gestures to the cherry blossom that hasn't bloomed yet and it's only halfway there. Her father brings out the hair comb and places it into her hair.
"I bet when it blooms, it will be the most beautiful of all."
Mulan smiles gratefully at her father cheering her up.

Mei and Xiuying soon got out of meditation. Mei's eyes were full of awe and recognition.
"She's... almost like me..." she voiced.
"She tried to bring honor to her family. But her fighting for what's right is what brought honor. Like I'm proving it to them. You should also do the same and prove your family and your ancestors that you are a part of the family."
Mei had a thoughtful look for a moment before smiling. She hugs Xiuying a little tight.
"Thanks, Xi."
Xiuying hugs back.
"No problem. That's what friends do. Now, shall we go get some snacks for our friends?"
"Yeah."
The two got up and heads through the hallway.
"Party, board games, snacks, Bull Clone."
Xiuying and Mei passes by General Ironclad stealing the Dragon Sword. They backtrack as soon as they realizes what they saw.
"Wait a minute, you're a Bull Clone!"
The Bull Clone flees with the sword.
"It's getting away!" Xiuying exclaimed summoning her cloud with her sword.
"Hey! Get back here!"
Xiuying grabs Mei and places her on the cloud next to her before they chase the Bull Clone through Mei's house as it destroys her parents' artifacts. They have to quickly catch every other objects before they could break.
Then Mei whistles for her White Dragon Horse Bike. Xiuying places her on her bike as they continued their chase on the Bull Clone. Xiuying grabs a dragon spear and throws it towards the wheel the Bull Clone was riding, making the bike slow down. Mei crashes into it on her bike. They both go flying. Mei slams into a wall and the Dragon Blade impales itself above her head. She reaches up and takes hold of it.
"The Dragon Blade?"
Mei's dragon ancestors appear surrounding her. They mumble things about her.
"Weakest link of them all."
"You call yourself a girl?"
Mei starts to feel scared but then glances at Xiuying, who's in her fighting stance, glaring at the Bull Clone. Mei recalls her words. With determination, she glares up at her ancestors.
"You know what? I am part of this family. I am Mei. Descendant of the great Dragon of the West Sea. This is mine, and this is my house."
Mei harnesses the power of the Dragon Blade. She hovers midair, staring down the Bull Clone. Xiuying watches in awe with a proud smile.
"Get out of my house."
Xiuying moves out of the way for safety as Mei blasts the Bull Clone outside with a beam of green light. Once it's out of sight, Mk finds Mei and Xiuying in the hall.
"So, um, Mei, you know that really cool --"
He stops to see the mess.
"Mei? Xi? Mei, Xi, what happened?"
"Mk. Someone tried to steal the Dragon Sword. I stopped them with this, the Dragon Sword." Mei explained, showing him the sword.
"Yep. All thanks to her." Xiuying said.
"I should thank you for encouraging me. It really helps a lot." Mei said, turning to her.
"No problem."
Mk geeks out at the sight of the sword.
"Whoa, the Dragon Sword! That's --"
He stops to see Mushu, Sandy, and Mo giving him a look and sighs.
"Mei, I'm really glad you stopped them, but I have a confession to make. I accidentally --"
Mei looks at him with a smile while Xiuying is curious on what he had to say.
"Accidentally what?" Mei asked.
"-- accidentally didn't know what was going on. Wow, that thing's amazing." Mk lied, staring at her sword.
Mushu facepalms himself again.
"Ahem." someone cleared their throat.
They froze and turned to see Mei's parents. Mei quickly hides her sword behind her back and smiles nervously.
"Mom, Dad. You're back." she greeted.
"We were on our way when we realized somebody forgot our luggage." Mei's Mom said, glancing at her husband, who looks away.
"Um, Sandy, were you kind of expecting Mei's parents to be literally two, big, scary dragons?" Mk whispered to Sandy.
"Um, no." Sandy lied, sweatdropping.
"I can explain. Someone tried to steal the sword. Me and my friend didn't let them. And I used this. I'm sorry."
Mei bows to them with her sword out. Xiuying bows to them as well.
"Forgive me, Mr. and Mrs. Dragon. I did what I could to help without breaking anything."
"We saw the whole thing." Mr. Dragon stated.
"But we couldn't just --"
"And we're so proud of you."
Mr. Dragon then smiled at her daughter, shocking her.
"What?"
"The Dragon Blade is the pride of our family heritage. Its power only shows itself to those that embrace their history. Their family."
Mrs. Dragon kneels down to Mei's level and then gestures to her friends while also looking at Xiuying with recognition.
"We may not always see eye-to-eye, and your friends are more unique than we expected, but you are a part of this family. And it is part of you. We love you."
"I love you too, Mom. Dad."
Mei and her parents gets into a group hug with smiles on their faces. Xiuying watches with a fond smile, wishing she had a family like this. She quickly stops Mk from joining the hug, not wanting him to ruin the moment.
"I am sorry about the house, though." Mei said.
"What's important is that you are okay. Objects can be replaced." Mrs. Dragon said.
"Everything except my prized pinball machine. That is irreplaceable." Mr. Dragon added, making Mk wince.
"Uh."
Xiuying notices that and shakes her head with a sigh.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In Xiuying's room, she's sitting in her desk, reading some scrolls. Mushu and Cri-Kee are sleeping. Then her phone rings. Xiuying picks it up and sees that her parents are calling. She smiles, and answers her phone.
"Oh, hey, it's my parents!" she greeted.
"Oh, there she is! Hi, sweetheart!" Ai said, smiling.
"Hey there, Xi-Xi! How was your first day in Megapolis?" Da asked.
"It was real great." Xiuying nodded.
"Yeah? Everything you ever hoped?" Ai asked.
"Mm-hmm, absolutely and more! Everyone's so nice, and I feel like I'm really making a difference. And there's so much I wanted to tell you." Xiuying explained happily.
Da notices Xiuying's sword.
"Wait a second..."
He gets a bit closer to the screen.
"Holy cripes, Ai, look at that!!"
Ai gets a bit closer to the screen as well.
"Oh, my sweet heaven! Xiuying, is that Mulan's sword?"
"Oh, this -"
Xiuying holds out her sword.
"Oh, yeah! It's kind of a long story, but it was gifted by Monkey King."
"Oh, my! Your dream has finally come true!" Ai said proudly.
"OMG! She's a reincarnation of Fa Mulan! Our prayers have been answered!" Da cheered.
"Glorious day!" Ai added.
"Ho-ho! My baby warrior, baby warrior, baby warrior, baby warrior!"
Xiuying gets annoyed with his nickname and tries to stop him.
"Dad. Dad! Dad! You know what, it's been a really long day, I should really..."
"That's right, you get some rest!" Ai nodded in agreement.
"The world ain't gonna save themselves!" Da added with a wink.
"Bye-bye!" Ai said and ended the call.
"Buh-bye..." Xiuying sighed, putting down the phone and sitting back.
She then gets up and heads towards her bed after turning off the light before going to sleep.
