《 Chapter 1: A Reincarnated Warrior 》

In the village, a chicken could be seen running away, past the surprised villagers. Running footstep chase after the chicken. It reveals a little girl with straight black hair, wearing a long sleeve turquoise kimono with light brown pants and dark green shoes. She was determined to get it as she rushed after it.

"Xiuying, be careful!" her father called.

Despite this, she paid no attention to anything else because she was so absorbed in chasing the bird. In the courtyard, little Xiuying dashed through the crowd, making many victims fall over. Soon, behind her, there was a trail of sprawled people, upset bins, and tangled laundry, with everyone shouting and yelling. All of this went unnoticed by her. That runaway bird was all she could see. She pursued the hen even when it ran into the village shrine. As a result, she accidentally broke the shrine statue, which was a great shame to her.

Nevertheless, she didn't give up. Upon jumping onto the roof, the hen landed on the balcony of the tulou. As fast as she could, little Xiuying climbed up as well. Running along the slanted roof, she chased after the chicken. However, the bird jumped off the roof, took flight down into the courtyard, and waddled toward the coop just as she was about to grab it. As a result, her mother closed it up.

Little Xiuying was trapped on the roof. A worried looking father rushed toward her below.

"Climb down, slowly!"

After trying to follow his instructions, she slipped with her very first step, scaring the crowd! Her fall was prevented by wedgeing a stick she was holding into the balcony and using it to break her fall. Somehow, she was able to twist in the air and land on her feet safely and spins a stick like a staff in her dramatic pose. Xiuying's skill amazed everyone, including her parents. She looked at her father who gave her a proud smile. They expect nonetheless from her as her skills are just like their certain hero who brought honor to her family, despite the mess she made. Although some wasn't too happy with the mess she left, as she quickly apologized and helped clean it up with the help of her father.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Before she knew it, she's playing around in the forest as she practicing her sword fight with her wooden stick pretending to be a warrior. Her parents allow her to play as long as she get back home before sunset. She had always dreamed of becoming a warrior where she can be more independent on herself like her hero Fa Mulan. She had heard legends about her and wouldn't stop geeking about it. Needless to say, she's a fan of her. She would've been a girl that wants to get married or be a sewing maker or other girly things, but that's not her calling because... she opens her mouth and starts singing.
I wanna be like other girls
Climb up a tree like other girls can
Just to be free like other girls
Get to be
She starts climbing up the tree and swings herself down from the branch and landed gracefully on the ground before she start running.
... To slouch when I sit
To eat a whole cake
Feel the sun on my feet
Xiuying rolls herself on the ground full of dirt and laughs before getting up.
... Get dirty
Act silly
Be anything I want to be
To dance around
In my underwear
She then runs around the trees and jumps around.
... To run really fast
To get rid of this fan
To eat a whole cake
Get crazy
With frosting
... No escorts
No manners
No nursemaids
No worries
No hands folded perfect,
Like holding a lily
She looks at her shoes that are pinchy and happily takes them off, all barefoot.
... No pinchy shoes!
She gets back into running, not realizing how far she had run.
... I wanna be like other girls
Scrape up my knee like other girls can
Just to be free,
Like other girls
Get to be
... To speak for myself
To sing way off key
Marry someone I've met,
Who loves me for me
... No escorts
No manners
No nursemaids
No worries
No hands folded perfect,
Like holding a lily
No pinchy shoes
... I wanna be like other girls
Climb up a tree like other girls can
Just to be free like other girls
Get to be
Xiuying then collapses on the ground full of flowers and laughs loudly. She later calms down and looks up at the sun, seeing it slowly go down. Even though she still had time to play, she needs to go back. She sits up and finds herself in a field of flowers. Confused, she looked around, not familiar with this face and looked back to see she had run outside of the forest. With pure panic, she quickly ran back to where she came from, dusting the flowers out of her hair. She tries to run into any path she could find but it only takes her to the same direction she went, finding herself going around in circle. Tears sprung out of her eyes and Xiuying collapses and brings her knee up to her face.
"Mama... Papa..."
She is lost and she can't find her way back home and it's almost sun down. Just then, she heard footsteps and looks up and her eyes goes wide. Sun beams down on a magical black unicorn as it carries over a basket of apples on its back. It grabs a handle of the basket by the mouth and then leans down to her level for her to grab it.
"Thank you." she said, grabbing a red apple and eating it.
Little Xiuying notices a dragon medallion around the unicorn's neck and reaches over and grabs it, causing the unicorn to let her take it by leaning its head down further. She stares at the medallion in awe, touching a carving of the dragon. A cricket hops onto her shoulder to look at the medallion she's holding and gets excited. From a distant branch, a shadow figure of a woman with nine fluffy tails watches her with a smile, knowing she found her before disappearing into petals of cherry blossom.
Suddenly, a hushed whispering rung throughout her ears. The cricket looks over and taps her shoulder, pointing at the direction. Xiuying looks up to see a translucent orb shimmering ahead. It glowed with a hazy bright blue color and slowly came into focus as if demanding its presence to be known. She gets up and approaches up close to see a tiny flame like ghost with the unicorn following behind her.
"Whoa... What are you?" she wondered in awe.
It hovers over a twisted root of a nearby tree, watching her as she approached closer. Once she is, she reaches her hand towards it until it quickly disappears. Xiuying was about to call to when multiple tiny ghosts appeared on a series of moss-covered boulders that traveled up another path. She looks up at the unicorn as it stares back at her. Xiuying reaches her hands up.
"Can I ride your back?"
The unicorn bows its head down along with its body as Xiuying happily jumps onto its back before it gets up along with the cricket hopping onto the unicorn's head. Her and the unicorn quickly runs after them, passing by the one rock to the other until they reached the hilltop.
"Xiuying!!"
She perked up to hear her mother's voice call out to her.
"Come on! It's almost time for dinner!"
"Mom!"
The mother looked up and gasped to see a majestic black unicorn approaching her with Xiuying on its back.
"This unicorn helped me get back home and I saw a wisp! A wisp!" she exclaimed excitedly.
"Oh my...!"
The father heard his wife's cry and walked over and gasped. Not at the unicorn, but the medallion around Xiuying's neck as he recognized it. The unicorn calmly reaches them and leans its head down as the father carried his daughter who kept babbling about her little adventure. The mother and father knew one thing. Their daughter is the reincarnation of Fa Mulan.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Years later, Xiuying is grown up into young adult, age 24. Ever since she learned she's the descendant of Fa Mulan, she trained herself to become a good fighter with the help of her ancestors as she had recently discovered from the Fa Temple, especially her great great grandfather Fa Zhou.

Xiuying spends her childhood and teenage years in various cultures she travels with her unicorn named Daiyu and the cricket named Cri-Kee. Her parents bid her goodbye and wish her luck in becoming a warrior she was meant to be as Xiuying promised them that she will come back home. With her first adventure, she trains in equestrianism in the camp of an Arab Sheikh in order for her to learn how to ride her unicorn properly. She then trains in martial arts in the camp where Mulan was military trained and where she took her father's place. She even recently discovered how to summon Mushu as soon as she's in the place as he properly introduced himself as her guardian. Mushu and Cri-Kee had a great reunion after all these years. With his help, she learns stick fighting from the Chief of an African tribe. In Egypt, she studies hieroglyphics with Mushu having a hard time understanding them along with Cri-Kee. In Greece, she learns the art of wrestling as Mushu cheers her on. She learns marksmanship from an English bandit known as Robin Hood with Cri-Kee entertaining those customers. A Russian Boyar teaches her axe throwing. Mongol warriors teach her spear throwing. She then reaches to the temple of Shaolin to study kung fu and sword fighting.

After her return, Xiuying has been living her life of her home with the same old routine, but nothing came out interesting as she thought after her return from her travels. Though, there are some problems in her village as some men attempt ask her for marriage after learning about her and her descendant, which she declined them all, knowing they only wanted to marry her for fame, even her parents were aware as they did not like how those men see her as. But all of her villagers are nice and understandable. Other than that, life has been normal.

Once morning came, Xiuying awakens to the sound of a rooster. She sits up, her hair a little messy and throws off her covers and slips onto her clothing. Resting on a nearby chest, Xiuying snatches her bow and arrow and her Bo staff and leaps out of her bedroom. She races out of her home, fixing her hair into a ponytail. She then snatches a red apple from the fruit stand and slams down the money on the counter. Xiuying stops by the mirror and notices her hair has a red streak. Recently, her hair strand has recently showed once she started growing as her parents learned she had a same streak as Mulan as if it's a family heirloom. She then raced towards the stables. She finds a large black unicorn Daiyu ready with a saddle. Mushu and Cri-Kee are sitting on a saddle, eating their breakfast as they look ready to go as well.

Smiling, she uses the fence to boost herself on the creature's back as Mushu and Cri-Kee hopped into the bag that's attached to the saddle. Xiuying yells as she slams the unicorn's reins. Obeying her master, Daiyu nays and bolts out of the stables. She reaches passed the traveling villagers, her hooves thundering with each step. Daiyu carries Xiuying, Mushu, and Cri-Kee as she races out of the village and into a nearby forest.

Xiuying readies her bow and swiftly slips out a feathered arrow with her free hand. She quickly pulls back the weaponry and shoots the dart into a target that was hanging from a tall tree. She smiles, her teeth flashing, as she notices that her arrow had hit the center of her target. Daiyu continued rushing through the forest with Mushu and Cri-Kee cheering throughout the ride, huffing as the intelligent animal remembered where to guide herself as her master practiced. Daiyu uses her horn to knock off the dummies that popped out of the bushes as she stabs one on the center of its chest before flicking it off of her. Xiuying grabs two more arrows, she places one in her mouth to hold while she readied to shoot the other. She manages to shoot another target that was strapped to another branch before using the dart in her mouth to shoot another mark that was bolted on the bark of the tree.

Coming across a fallen tree, Daiyu swiftly jumps over the blockage. Xiuying had prepared another target above her with her Bo staff in hand, a small mark on the broken edge of a slim tree. She spins it and throws it into a tiny target, leaving a big mark before catching her staff. As Daiyu landed onto the ground, Xiuying turns around to face another target with her bow and arrow ready as she lands another arrow at its center. Completing her arrow and staff training, Xiuying found herself at the edge of the forest. The day was slowly drifting by. She allows Daiyu rest besides her as Mushu and Cri-Kee are sitting besides her. The unicorn rolls onto its back, crushing the grass underneath her heavyweight.

Xiuying giggled at the sight of her unicorn, doodling her drawing on her notebook while glancing at the scroll with unknown words, which she can read and understand it thanks to the learning in Egypt. Mushu looks down at the words and to Xiuying.

"I still don't know what got you interested in learning these weird words that I can't even understand."

"I just love learning. Plus, I would be able to learn some riddles if I ever discover one and read ancient texts." she replied with a shrug.

Suddenly, a screech bellowed from the sky above. Xiuying turns to face a large bird circling above her, a falcon. For some reason, she finds it odd for a falcon to fly in her home, but nonetheless she decides to follow after the bird, trailing towards the enormous terrain. The stone was jagged and tall, yet that did not stop her. She begins climbing the stone, much to Mushu's shock.

"Are you crazy?!"

Ignoring him, she keeps climbing only to almost slip from the stone, causing Mushu to scream and Daiyu to neigh worryingly. However, her strong grip kept her at bay, her lego hand digging into the rock. Carefully choosing where to put her hands and feet, Xiuying continued to strive up the mountain. Soon, she reached the top of the mountain as she smiled, witnessing the sun that's slowly going down across the horizon. She turns to the waterfall that cascaded right besides her. She scoops a hand full of water into her hands and sips it. Xiuying laughs and cheers in victory, jumping up and down.

Returning back to her village, Xiuying returns Daiyu back to her stables. She slips off of the animal, landing softly on her feet. Mushu and Cri-Kee comes down next.

"Good girl, Daiyu." Xiuying said, petting her head. "Hungry?"

Her unicorn neighs in response with Mushu and Cri-Kee raising their hands. She chuckles in amusement.

"Alright." she laughed as her animal friends began to follow her in hopes of eating.

She then gives them each of their own food for them to eat as they happily dig in. Little did they know, a certain man runs around in front of her striking a nonchalant pose.

"Hello, Xiuying." he greeted with a smirk.

"Ugh, hey, Jiāohèng..." she greeted back before continuing going, but he moves to block her way.

"Excuse me."

She goes around him with Daiyu following after while Mushu and Cri-Kee are hiding. Then he snatches a scroll out of her bag.

"Jiāohèng, may I have my scroll, please?"

Xiuying reaches in to grab her scroll when he turns around and unrolls it, looking at it.

"How can you read this? There's no pictures. And what do these even mean?" he asked, looking frustrated.

"Well, some people like to learn!" she retorted.

"Xiuying, it's about time you got your head out of these books, scrolls, adventures, training, and paid attention to more important things." he said, tossing the scroll onto the ground.

Xiuying quickly kneels down to grab it when he blocks her way with his foot, striking a handsome pose.

"Like me." he added with a grin.

Rolling her eyes, she managed to get her scroll back, rolling it back while dusting off the dirt. Mushu and Cri-Kee glare daggers at Jiāohèng while Daiyu looks ready to ram him over.

"It's not right for a woman to be thinking about doing whatever she likes. Adventures, fighting? Come on, you've got a popularity and beauty. You should be thinking about being a perfect girl."

"And what's that?"

"Like marriage and children?"

Xiuying and her animal friends couldn't believe what they just heard. That's the thing she never would want, not like this. This is why she doesn't want to think about those kind of things people expect women to be, even Mulan wouldn't want to get married and be a "perfect" girl.

"No way!"

"Oh, come on. I think I know how you feel about me. You can't even imagine."

He grabs her hand when she pulls his hand away.

"No! I just don't deserve you!" she shouted angrily. "And for the record, I hate guys like you. Your name fits you perfectly, which means arrogant!"

Jiāohèng was shocked at her outburst as she angrily marched to her home with her animal friends following after her. He quickly follows last as he tries to get her attention.

"Please, baby. You know you want me! There's no other men that want you more than me!"

Just as he goes to touch her hand, Xiuying grabs his arm and twists it behind his back, causing a sickening crack as he yells in pain. Then she grabs him and holds his body up like a wrestler would do and then throws over to the mud pile where the pigs are. He screamed as he landed into it, looking completely dirty. He looks at her and flinches to see a dark look on her face.

"Don't ever come near me or my family ever again. I don't want you! I don't like you! I don't want you in my life, ever!"

Nodding, he quickly runs off, muddy and heartbroken, as if his pride just got taken away. Xiuying scoffs at this.

"Damn! I thought he'd never leave." Mushu commented, which Cri-Kee chirped in agreement.

"Can you imagine? He asked me to marry him! Me, the wife of that boorish, brainless..."

 ♪Madame Jiāohèng, can't you just see it?

Madame Jiāohèng, his little wife

Xiuying puts on a cloth over head before kicking off the bucket, scaring them a little. She then roughly removes the cloth from her head, shaking her head.

No, sir!

Not me, I guarantee it.

I want much more than this provincial life...

Then she runs off into an open field overlooking a beautiful valley.

I want adventure in the great wide somewhere,

I want it more than I can tell

And for once it might be grand...

To have someone understand...

I want so much more than they've got planned...

As if her prayer was answered, her parents had certainly heard and saw everything, knowing what they need to do.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Why do I have to keep my eyes closed?" Xiuying asked as her parents guided her somewhere.
The next day, her parents certainly acted weird along with her villagers as if they're hiding something.
"It's a surprise, honey." her mom said.
"You will certainly love it." her dad added.
She could've swore she heard the sound of the train with a hint of hiss as if something just smoked out. Once they're at their destination, they stopped.
"Okay, you can open them now."
Opening her eyes, she gasped to see that she's in a train station with all of the people in her village standing in front of her with a big sign "Have fun on your journey, Fa Xiuying!".
"Surprise!!!" they exclaimed in unison.
"What is... this?"
"We overheard your confrontation and your wish, and we just thought we'd give you that chance to explore."her mom explained.
"Everyone agreed to help out since they all care about you." her dad added. "Plus, you've been stuck in the village for a little too long, and I think it would be selfish of us to not let you go."
Xiuying couldn't believe it. They did all of this for her. Everyone had gathered so much money on her to give her that chance to go on a new adventure for her to find new opportunities about herself. She teared up a little but she quickly wiped them away.
"Thank you all so much."
"It's the least we can do. You've helped us so much, it's time we return the favor." the elder said.
"Go and kick some butt...!" the elderly said, making everyone laugh.
"Don't worry. Your stuff has already been taken care of, along with your Daiyu. We'll miss you and we couldn't be more proud of you, Xiuying." her mom said.
"Yup, and scared too." her dad added.
"Yes." she agreed.
"Really, it's a - it's kind of a proud-scared combo. I mean, Megapolis, so far away, such a big city."
"Guys, I've been working for this my whole life." Xiuying assured them. "I've been traveling to other places, so this won't be a big deal."
"We know, and we're just a little excited for you, but terrified." her mom said.
"No worries. I'm a warrior. It's in my blood."
"But there are some thugs and thieves."
"Thugs? Thieves?" her mom questioned.
"Murderers!" her dad added.
"Seriously?"
"What? You know it happens. It can happen to her!"
Xiuying sighs at her father's overreaction.
"You know what? Pretty much all criminals, and Megapolis' full of 'em."
"Oh, honey..." her mom sighed.
"And rapists are the worst! Don't let those perverts ever try to touch you! I don't want anyone hurt my daughter!"
Xiuying looks weirded out.
"I'm fully aware. I'm sure Mulan is aware. We both have beauties, yadda yadda."
"Sure, yeah, we all know, absolutely. But just in case..."
Her dad holds up a box.
"...we made a little care package to take with you."
"Yeah, I tried to tell your father not to." her mom said with a nervous smile.
He takes out a spray bottle.
"This is Pepper Gel."
"Yeah, that's safe to have."
He then takes out a knife blade.
"This is a Dragon Dagger Knife."
"Okay, the pepper spray and the knife, that's all she needs."
He later takes out something that shocked Xiuying and her mom.
"Check this out!"
He turns the taser on. The taser releases a powerful blast, nearly zapping her, who cringes.
"Oh, for goodness sake!"
Her mom pulls the taser away.
"She has no need for a taser, honey!"
"Oh, come on, when is there not a need for a taser?" her dad argued.
"Okay, look! I will take this..."
Xiuying takes the dragon dagger knife.
"...to make you stop talking. Also, because it looks cool."
"Terrific! Everyone wins!" He said happily.
Just then, a loud honk was heard, meaning that the train had arrived.
"Arriving, Megapolis Express."
"Okay, gotta go. Bye!"
Xiuying enters the train, other villagers are heard saying, "Bye, Xiuying!" Xiuying heads for the train, head held high. No turning back. Her mom and dad watch, both holding back tears. Suddenly, the emotion catches up with Xiuying. She turns, runs back to her parents, hugs them tight.
"I love you guys!"
She kiss each of them on the cheek.
"Love you, too." Her mom said.
Xiuying releases them and runs back to the train. Suddenly, her dad starts sniffing and tearing up, he briefly clenches his fists.
"Oh, cripes. Here come the waterworks."
He blubbers and clings to his wife, who pats his shoulder.
"Oh, geez..."
"Oh, Da, pull it together." her mom said.
"I know, Ai." her dad said, nodding.
"Bye, everybody!" Xiuying waved at them through the window.
"Bye. Bye, Xiuying!"
"Bye, Xiuying, I love you! Bye! Bye!"
The train pulls away as she watches them one last time.
"Bye!"
With that, a new adventure begins...
