4. The Golden City

I was left alone in the tent for the rest of the night, though Loki had insisted that at least two of them stood guard so I wouldn't escape while everyone else slept. The group predictably grumbled about this, but with Thor giving his brother some sibling support, his friends did as Loki asked. Which made me wonder how much power the dark prince had over his own subjects. Thor's friends obviously didn't respect Loki. And to my knowledge non of them were royalty. Just warriors that made up Thor's friend group. It almost made me feel bad for the younger prince.

Almost.

I did my best to sleep through the night. Seeing no reason to do much else. If I tried to escape I would be admitting I was guilty of something. Thor, Loki, and the Asgardian warriors would hunt me down across the galaxy. Best to just comply for now. I could feel Eclipse in the back of my mind, still worried. He hadn't left, no, of course he wouldn't. Even though I wanted him to go back to Drakarus with the Terrible Terror he wouldn't leave me like this. That being said I knew he couldn't do anything to help me. I couldn't let him be seen. I couldn't take that chance. Not with my own dragon's life. I wouldn't put him in harms way even if that meant I was the one in danger.

Thor came into my tent at first light. He looked at me sheepishly, silently apologizing for taking me captive. "There is nothing for you to worry about." He told me in the same tone he would use to calm down a victim was rescuing. "Once Father tells my brother you are unremarkable I will bring you back here then you will be free to go."

"I thought mortals are not allowed to go to Asgard? And isn't this kidnapping? Pretty sure thats illegal." I ask him, doing my best to sound harmless. Which worked because Thor gave me his signature super-hero 'you can trust me' smile.

"That is true. On both accounts." Thor agreed with me gently. "Though with Loki's mind made up father will not mind you coming along with us. If anyone is to get in trouble it will be Loki. As for the kidnapping I have authorization from your government to take suspected extraterrestrials back to Asgard with me. Not only that but Earth has been under Asgard's protection for thousands of years. The All Father has some authority here. If all goes according to plan no harm will come to you. You have my word."

I wasn't too convinced. But I smiled and nodded along. All I needed to do was keep up the act and I would be free soon.

Thor lead me out of the tent. The fire was still going from last night. The short stout man with the beard was making breakfast. The woman and the blonde haired man, Fandral, were breaking down the tents, while a black haired man with a goatee was packing away everything else into elegantly carved boxes laced with gold and silver.

Seriously, how much gold and silver did Asgard have?

Loki was near the fire, pacing back an forth, trying to find ways to pass the time. He looked over at us as Thor lead me out of my tent. I could feel his magic power was much less agitated this morning, making me a little more relaxed. His green eyes showed impatience, but other than that he was clam.

Loki locked eyes with me, giving me a look I couldn't place then turned to his brother. "We should get going." Loki insisted, not in a panicked way, but more of a regal command. "There could be reinforcements coming for her."

"We will depart for Asgard the moment we have everything packed away dear brother." Thor told Loki calmly.

Loki rolled his eyes, glancing around at all of Thor's friends who seamed to have slowed down their efforts in getting packed. Listening in on the two princes conversation. "Your friends are useless." Loki informed his brother matter of factly, and with a flash of green light the camp was put away neatly into the boxes, breakfast cooked and plated.

"You couldn't have done that thirty minutes ago?" The girl asked, Thor's friends muttering in agreement.

"Magic takes energy." Loki told the group. "Much like running or lifting weighs. Not like you lot would know. I am not willing to waist magic on things that you should be able to do by yourselves." He then looked over at me. "However I want to get this one back home as fast as we can. So eat."

The group looked at the breakfast, apprehensive about eating the magically cooked food. Even the short stout man, who I quickly figured out loved food, didn't seam to trust the magic food. "Its not going to turn onto slugs while we swallow it?" The short one asked. "Or turn us into animals?"

A sly smirk slowly spread across Loki's face, then it turned into confusion. "Come now, those were simply harmless pranks that made for a good laugh. You're not seriously still upset about that?"

The group glared at Loki who tried his best to look innocent. It was not working.

"No. This food is perfectly normal." Loki tried to assure them, a smirk still on his face. Then picked up a plate and began to eat. Showing them they had nothing to fear.

This assurance obviously wasn't enough to sooth the suspicions of the the group. Looking at the food as if it might come alive and eat them. Which, apparently, was a very real possibility.

Finally the short stout man took up a plate. He took a cautious bite chewing it carefully. Like one wrong chomp would set off a trap and he would be turned into a hog or something. After he swallowed the first bite he hummed, nodding his head in approval, then began to enthusiastically eat his breakfast. "This is actually really good." He told his friends.

The rest of the boys picked up their plates doing the same as the first friend did. The only girl in the group elected to not eat. I fallowed her example. The last thing I wanted was to turn into a rabbit or accidentally swallow slugs.

"It really is good Lady Sif." Fandral assured the woman.

Lady Sif shook her head. "I can wait till we make it back to the palace." She told him.

After the boys were finished eating I was led to a the outskirts of their campsites where a pattern scorched in the earth laid. Like a ginormous hot stamp pressed down from the sky specifically to leave its mark. The group walked into the middle of it, all standing huddled next to one another with me standing in the middle between all of them.

"Heimdall!" Thor called into the sky. "Bring us home!"

Not a second later a beam of light descended upon us, making me yelp in surprise as we began to fall upwards.

I was used to falling. Every dragon rider was. I knew how to orient my body in the sky allowing me to use the wind and gravity with ease to control my fall whenever I needed to jump from my dragon. But this felt different. I was having a hard time figuring out where the gravity was, and there was wind, but not like I was used to. It felt more like I was falling through warm syrup. The air was thick with magic allowing the Asgardians to effortlessly fall into a organized group. I however flailed around like someone experiencing zero gravity for the first time.

I drifted close to the wall of rainbow colored lights, my hand brushing up against the fast moving magic there unintentionally making me lurch forward, like a current trying to drag me under. Luckily someone reached out and grabbed my ankle, pulling me back to the group.

"Carful." Loki chastised me as he pulled me back. "You wouldn't want to crash down to a hostile planet."

Loki held on tight to my ankle the rest of the time till we were spit out into a big circular room. Everyone, other than me, landing gracefully on their feet. I, however, slid across the floor on my stomach, coming to a stop near the arched entrance. Apparently Loki didn't think it important to help me out with the landing.

There was a loud CLU-CHUNK and the rainbow colored lights were shut off. Loki casually walked over to where I laid, looking down at me. "My dear," He said in the same condescending tone he used when I almost got pulled out to space. "That is not how you disembark the Bifröst"

I glared up at him. Annoyed that he didn't even try to help me land. Loki smiled a amused, dare I say, charming, smile. Which only made me dislike him that much more. I sorely got to my feet finding that there were now holes in my cloak and my right forearm was scraped up and bleeding. Probably from when I slid across the ground.

Loki looked over my wound from where he stood looking for something. Though I had no idea what. If he was concerned about my injury he made no moves to help me out.

"Your mounts will be here soon." The dark skin man with golden eyes told the group. "I have sent word to the place that you have retuned."

"Thank you Heimdall." Thor thanked the man.

Heimdall nodded looking me over with a piercing gaze even more unsettling than Loki's. I looked way from him, turning my attention back to my bleeding forearm.

"Sorry about that." Thor apologized as he came over to me and Loki. "I forget that mortals are so fragile. I will take you to the palace's infirmary the moment we get done with meeting father."

I gaveThor a grateful nod. "Thank you. That would be very kind of you."

Thor gives me another one of his super hero smiles then walks out onto the rainbow colored bridge that ran over a glistening ocean leading all the way to a shining golden city. I fallow behind Thor staring in awe at the city I was always forbidden to travel to. The stories I had heard and the books I had studied did not do it justice.

"Yes." Loki agreed as he stood next to me. "It is quite breathtaking. A shining city of hope and protection for the galaxy. At least that is what the All Father claims. Asgard shines even in the darkest of times."

I look up at Loki, a little confused but not upset. "You sound almost proud." I point out. Everything out of his mouth so far had been either sarcastic, angry, accusing, or straight up rude.

Loki looked down at me giving me a judgmental stare. "I am one of their princes." He said matter of factly. "Just because me and the All Father do not see eye to eye doesn't mean I would look down on my own people. As long as there is breath in my lungs Asgard will remain my home, and my duty."
