The two met up at a gas station in the morning.

"Hey," Shawn spoke up, startling the brunette and nearly making her drop her bottle of iced coffee. "Didn't expect to see you here."

"I just needed something to keep me up and to snack on during lunch." She smiled as she put a small back of chips in her bag, already having paid for them. "What are you doing here?"

"The same. I needed snacks." He agreed, grabbing a bag of chips aswell. "When gas stations stock cupcakes, but not muffins."

"Muffins are just like cupcakes, just bigger and without frosting and stuff." Audrey told him in amusement as he paid for his snacks. "Ugly cupcakes."

"No, they're so different." He argued and then laughed. "They're very different." He repeated to her, taking the bag from the cashier and thanking him.

The two left the gas station and made their was to the school, which was only about five minutes away. "Do you walk to school every morning?" Shawn asked her.

"I only walk when it's not raining, which is pretty much every day yeah." She answered his question and he nodded. "You?"

"Yeah, I always walk. It helps clear my mind before school." He replied and she agreed with him as Shawn dan a hand through his hair.

"What happened to your knuckles?" Audrey couldn't help but ask, noticing the red-purple hue along the protruding bones.

"I have a workout room in my house and it has a punching bag. I lost my gloves, but used it anyways." He confessed to her, opening and closing his hand.

"Oh..." She trailed off and looked at him with widened eyes. "Does it hurt?" She asked him curiously and he shook his head.

"No, not really. It's more numb at this point... last night they were throbbing and swelled though." He shrugged and she winced.

"It didn't bother you?" She gasped and he shook his head. "No? How?"

"I don't know honestly." He laughed and she shook her head as she took another drink of her coffee.

"The project in fifth period kinda sucks." She brought up, unsure of what to talk about. "Write a biographical, two page essay on your partner? Kind of creepy, if you ask me."

"I agree, but it's a nice way to get to know someone I guess." Shawn decided and she nodded. "So partner, let's work on this after school? Are you free?"

"Yeah, I'm always free. I'm kind of a loser." Audrey pointed out and Shawn laughed. "I have like two friends, including you."

"I have two friends, you and another dude who I've known for like nine years." Shawn pitched, hoping to sound less cool than she thought he was, and she nodded.

"There's you, and a girl in my first period. We're only friends cause we both like the same things." She sighed and he nodded.

"Always a great way to meet friends." He told her and she agreed. "Unless you're me, then you stalk them."

"You said it, not me, stalker." She teased and he laughed as he looked at her as she drank her coffee. She didn't notice a car turning quickly, the driving ramming the gas pedal to the floor.

He grabbed her arm and then pulled her back when he saw a car quickly coming their way. The action caused her to spill the cold coffee all over her sweater, and she gasped loudly. "Shawn!"

"I'm sorry, there was a car and-"

He was cut off but the car zooming past quickly, the screech of tires against asphalt and smell of gasoline catching their attention. "It's okay..." Audrey stammered, quite shaken up at the incident.

He just saved her life.

"I'm sorry about your shirt. Do you have extra clothes?" He asked and she shook her head. He checked his watch and he noticed it was too late to walk her back home for a change.

"Here, follow me." He offered and gently grabbed her arm. They hopped the fence of an old, abandoned house, after a quick argument over trespassing, and he took his sweater off, leaving him in a white t-shirt.

"Do you have extra clothes?" Audrey asked cautiously, taking the maroon sweater slowly. He shook his head and she was quick to hand it back to him.

"I don't have any, but my friends does because of wrestling. It's okay, I'll steal his shirt. He always brings clean clothes to practice. I see him first period anyways." He told her and she looked at the sweater.

"Are you sure?" She asked and he nodded. "Turn around." She told him and Shawn did as she told him to.

She took her sweater and tank top off, setting the sticky clothes on the floor by her feet. She took the water bottle she bought and opened it, wetting her hand and wiping her skin gently before drying it with the clean side of the dirty clothes.

She pulled his sweater on, the large article of clothing falling to the middle of her thighs and a good two inches past her fingers. "You can turn around now." She instructed and Shawn waited a couple more seconds before he turned around.

He looked at her and handed her the bag he got from the gas station, taking his snacks out and shoving them in his backpack. "Put your clothes in here." He told her and she nodded, thanking him as she took it.

She stuffed her clothes inside and tied the bag. "I don't have to worry about someone ripping my head off for this right?" Audrey asked jokingly Shawn laughed.

"I'm single, my friends won't notice, and I don't mind. I think you're good." He promised and she nodded. "Unless I have a crazy secret admirer."

"Don't say that." She gasped and the two left the yard, walking towards the school. "Maybe you do and she's gonna kill me."

"Oh god, we're late now."

"Oh well." She shrugged and he laughed. "I don't mind really. Do you?"

"Not really." Shawn agreed and she nodded as she pushed her curly brown hair out of her face. "So, after school?" He asked hopefully.

"Meet me by the auditorium, same spot." She smiled and he nodded, telling her that he'll be there.

-

"You okay?" Shawn asked Audrey as she rubbed her eye furiously. "What's wrong?" He questioned further, wanting to pull her into a hug but refraining from doing so because they only knew each other for a couple of days.

"Just some kids in class." She muttered as she played with the straps on her backpack. "And a test."

"I'm sure you did wel-"

"I got forty-three percent." She sniffled as she rubbed her eyes again. "I studied so hard for it. I don't understand." She told him and he bit the inside of his cheek.

"Is there anything I could do that can cheer you up?" He asked and she shrugged. "I could buy you something to eat? We could hang out at the park? We can talk to your teacher about the test?"

"I don't know." She sulked, exhausted from today's bullying and failures. She just wanted to lay in her bed and rot away for the rest of her life.

"Let's go get some food first, we can talk there." He offered and she nodded, the two walking off of school grounds.

"I only have like five dollars-"

"Don't worry, I got paid last Friday, I have money." Shawn cut her off and she looked at him.

"You work?"

"Yeah, it's not a big deal. My dad just wanted me to get a head start by working early." He told her and she nodded.

"What do you do?" She asked curiously. "Where do you work?"

"I work at a family-ran café downtown on the weekends from nine to three and a delivery boy at a pizza place from four to eight during school days." He told her and she nodded.

"Do you have days off?" She asked and he nodded. "Like when?"

"Fridays and Thursdays usually." He said and she sniffled a bit. "So I gotta be home before three-thirty."

"Okay, that's fair. I need to be home before four anyways. I have to go to my cousins birthday party." Audrey agreed and he nodded.

"Sounds fun, how old are they going to be?" Shawn asked and Audrey held up eight fingers. "Almost double digits."

"Almost." She laughed quietly and nodded as they walked into a fast food restraunt. They waited in line and Shawn couldn't help but notice how adorable she was in his sweater.

"What do you want?" Shawn asked her, pulling his wallet out. She shrugged and looked at the menu, not really wanting to make him spend money on her.

When they went up, she decided on an iced tea and a hamburger. Shawn smiled to himself, glad she wasn't the kind of girl who refused to eat in front of someone. He ordered something similiar, a soda and a cheeseburger with fries.

He paid for it all, despite Audrey’s offer of paying her part, and they took a seat as they waited for their number to be called. "Do you have your test?" Shawn asked and Audrey nodded as she opened her bag.

She handed it to him and he asked for a pen, which she handed to him. He looked over the AP Calculus test, realizing the teacher, or teachers assistant, had made a mistake while grading.

"Did you check the corrections on your test?" He asked and Audrey shook her head as she looked at him. "You got these right, whoever corrected it substituted with the wrong value." He explained and she looked over the test with him. "I know because all the Calculus classes took this. It's the basics."

"Oh..." Audrey trailed off, watching as Shawn rewrote the problems that were marked wrong, solving it with little trouble. The answers were the same. "So... I didn't fail?" She asked him.

"If my math is correct, which it is of course," he smart-mouthed, causing them both to laugh. "You got an eighty-seven percent." He finished and she let out a breath of relief.

"Really?" She asked and he nodded. "I'll talk to my teacher about it tomorrow." She told him and he nodded as they heard their number called.

"I got it." He offered and she nodded, sitting back down slowly. She took back her test and put it in her bag, making a mental note to bring this up tomorrow after class.

Shawn sat down, a tray of food in front of them, and Audrey smiled a bit. "Thank you." She told him and he nodded.

"Don't mention it." He told her and she reached for her food and drink. "So, for that project in Writing..." He brought up and she nodded.

"Do we need paper to write stuff down?" She asked and he told her that he had a good memory. "Okay, so do I." She told him and the two got busy on telling each other about themselves.
