❄️The rumours never end.❄️
"Y/N?" Gleb looked confused to see his sister here. She rarely ever came unless it was something important.
"Gleb," She fidgeted with her hands. She normally told him many things. Such as each and every girl who claimed to be Anastasia Romanov. But she felt different, guilty almost for telling him. But she had to. It would have made her father proud, "There's another girl is claiming to be Anastasia."
"Agh, she's probably dead," he shrugged, losing interest in his frantic looking sister, "they're all just imposters who only act for the money and royalty -"
"- I know but she's — different somehow." Y/N murmured, "she has amnesia. She doesn't remember who she was. Or almost anything to do with her past."
"Then how does she even know if she is Anastasia?" He scoffed, looking at her as if she was insane.
"She remembered something we didn't even tell her. Well, Dmitri and Vlad. I wasn't paying much attention. All I did is calm her down after she had an outburst of sorts," she explained.
"Well maybe she was a servant or something along the lines," Gleb glanced down at Y/N.
"Gleb, just listen to me for once." She grumbled out. "You listen to those other girls — why not me?"
"It's just.. unlikely, I guess." He shrugged, turning his head to the side, "Well anyways, Y/N. Go on back and tell me when you have some actual true answers."
"Fine then," she breathed, zipping her coat back up. "Just know, when I come back, the news might be about that girl," Y/N started to walk away from him.
Gleb lightly rolled his eyes, "Alright then — wait, what was her name?"
Y/N paused, debating on responding to him, "Anya."
"Her-" Gleb turned to Y/N, now interested. "Bring her here?"
"I don't -"
"- Y/N if she really is Anastasia, we'd have to kill her anyways," he narrowed his gaze, "don't forget that."
"Okay," She quietly said. "B-but I can't, she won't trust me if I do."
"Lead her out, and then I'll take care of her."
Y/N ran her fingers through her hair then nodded, "Where do you want me to lead her to?"
"Maybe the park," he thought, "Yeah. Do that. And don't worry, I can tell you're fond of her. I'll only give her a warning." He turned away, his back facing her.
"Mkay. Thank you." Y/N waved goodbye to her brother, now wanting to get away as quickly as possible.
"Anya?" Y/N lightly said, looking at the tired girl in front of her.
"Hmm?" She rubbed her eyes, looking up at her, sleepily.
"You don't have to do this —" she paused, as if looking for the right thing to say. "You know. I can tell you're tired and all-"
"-I know. But I need to find out who I really am." Anya was obviously determined, and Y/N knew she couldn't talk her out of this whole Anastasia rumour.
"You know," she sat down beside her, but she moved away. She didn't trust Y/N fully - and Y/N wouldn't blame her. "You act a lot like her."
"Who? Anastasia?" She tilted her head, now intrigued.
"Mhmm," the girl nodded.
"Do you really think I could be her?" Anya asked, her eyes were wide with wonder.
"I — maybe." Y/N gave her a small smile.
Anya smiled back, "Thank you. - Now uh, what were you wanting earlier?"
"Oh I was just wondering if we could go out for a bit," She shyly muttered, "- but you don't have to, of course."
"I'll come." Anya stood up next to Y/N, "Where to?"
"Maybe the park?" She slowly suggested, "I just wanna talk, I guess."
"Okay." Anya let out a faint smile. "Yeah, we can go."
"Wait, so you actually used to know Anastasia?" Anya looked at the girl in awe and surprise. "That's so cool.. I wish I got to know her." Her expression slowly turned into a frown.
"..Maybe you do know her," Y/N turned to face her, and Anya just looked confused. "Maybe you really are Anastasia." She didn't believe what she said, at all. But she found that she liked when Anya was happy.
"..I — Thank you." She fixated her gaze on the snowflakes that landed on her mittens. "You're kind. Kinder than those others."
Y/N let out a small laugh, "And you're funny."
Anya giggled, "Really?"
"Yeah! I mean, I don't think Dmitri found it funny when you kicked him," a goofy grin played at her lips, "But I sure did."
"He deserved it!" Anya laughed, looking over at Y/N with a playful grin, "He was being rude!"
"He's nice if you get to know him," Y/N was still giggling every now and then, "hopefully you'll end up liking him soon."
"I don't think that's possible." Anya edged a bit closer to Y/N. This was such a small action, but it meant a lot to the girl for some reason. She felt as if Anya was starting to trust her.. even though she couldn't even trust herself.
"Are you two Anya and Y/N?" A voice all too familiar called out from behind them.
Y/N nodded, turning around to face him. "Yeah, and you are?"
"Deputy Commissioner Gleb," he gestured toward his badge. "Mind if I talk to.. Anya, for a second?"
Anya tensed up from beside Y/N, then looked at her helplessly, unsure of what she should do.
She looked so scared, and Y/N felt unbelievably guilty, "Y-yeah."
Anya grabbed onto Y/N's arm as he walked to them, "What will he do?"
"He won't hurt you," Y/N breathed, "I'll make sure of it." She cleared her throat, "uh — sir, do you mind if I come along?"
"You can wait outside." He simply said, looking at Anya then at Y/N, "Okay?"
Anya looked over at Y/N then slowly let go, walking away with Gleb.
Y/N sighed then trailed after him, making sure to keep a fair distance.
A few minutes went by with Y/N leaning up against the wall, waiting for Anya to come out.
She wouldn't lie, she did feel sort of guilty for telling Gleb about them. But she had to, it was possible he would've found out somehow and he would be all mad at her for being silent.
Gleb opened the door, "goodbye, Anya."
The girl only nodded at him, her eyes were wide open. "Mmm."
Gleb glanced at her one last time before closing the door.
"Are you okay, Anya?"
"Yeah," the girl muttered, "I was just scared. I don't know why." She sighed, biting her lip.
"It's okay to be scared," Y/N started walking away. "It's normal. Everyone's been scared at least once in their life."
"Really?"
"Mhmm."
"When was the last time you were scared?"
"Uhmmm.." she furrowed her eyebrows together in a thought, "probably just now, I guess."
"Why? What happened, are you okay?" She quickly said.
"Yeah. I was just worried — for you." She slowly said, obviously embarrassed.
"Oh." Anya blinked a few times then smiled, "Thank you. It means a lot that you care."
"Of course," Y/N gave her a smile, walking back to Dmitri and Vlad.
