All Cub knew was the Architects were bad news. They started harmless enough, just a group of friends wanting to group together. Something was definitely off though. One of the members would disappear for weeks on end, come back, and then the next went away. No one except Cub and Scar seemed to realise the pattern, and every time they tried to alert anyone, they would say something along the lines of 'they're just working on Sahara, don't worry'. Cub wasn't worried though, just scared. The kind of primal anxiety where you know something bad is going to happen

For now, however, they had to get ready for a meeting with the Vexes. As the chosen two to be their spies within the Hermits, they had monthly meet ups where they would discuss any unnatural happenings in the server. Not that they knew what they were looking for, but if it got the Vex upset, it was nothing good.

"Cub? You okay?" asked Scar, pushing Cub from his thoughts.

"Yeah, just thinking about stuff and things" he replied. There was probably nothing to be anxious about right now.

Cubfan placed the Vex mask on his face as Scar did. The mask needed no strings, as it just sat on their faces with magic. Said magic infused with them, making their skin slightly more blue, spreading throughout their body. There was a tingle throughout their backs as translucent wings sprouted from their backs. The final touch was the slight glow they now gave off. Add a black bow tie, and they were ready. After taking a quick look in the mirror to make sure nothing went wrong, they headed off to the meeting spot.

They finally arrived at today's meeting area. The air smelt like magic, and the trees gave way to a pillager outpost. Ever since the pact between the Pillagers and the Illagers, outposts seemed to be a frequent place to meet. Trying to ignore the massive ravagers staring at them and the weird glances from witches and vindacators, the two entered the outpost. Most of the time these events were quite private, with one or two Vexes for them to report to. A Vex who was hovering near the door saw them and grew to a player's size.

"Follow me" the Vex said in the weird Vex language. It sounded like a mix of Galactica, English and gibberish. Luckily one of the powers bestowed on them was being able to understand and speak their language.

They knew it was a bad idea to speak to the Vex from past experiences. Cub and Scar followed in silence up the stairs and onto the top floor. They were met with roughly twenty high ranking Vex. They turned towards them, glowing eyes seeming to stare into their souls. Well, that wasn't true. They had already given their souls to the Vex, and they were probably sitting in a bottle somewhere.

"It's time we told you why we needed you" one of them said.

Cub remembered that Vex. One of the only distinguishing features of the Vex were their voices. Hard, like grating against metal, must be Dagger. It was one of the only English translatable names of the Vex they had been exposed to. Dagger was one of the highest Vex, and the one they usually met for meetings.

The two nodded slowly, knowing this could be a trap. Enough time with the Vex teaches you to think everything you do before you do it. One of the Vex nodded, and the familiar glow of Vex magic swirled around the two. Before you could say 'wait' they were somewhere else.

It was dark, and Scar was no where to be found. That scared Cub more than any darkness could. Scar and he always went everywhere together, and he was a reassuring face whenever they got pushed into these weird dream sequences. A voiceover started, filling the void.

"In the beginning, there was the Vex and the Watchers"

Two beings came into view, one with the familiar shape and colour of a Vex, and the other more purple. They both looked quite similar, what Cub assumed was the Watcher had larger, solid wings and a more human appearance.

"They both had magic, but where the Vex's power came from each other, Watcher magic came from within"

Cub knew this already. Whenever he or Scar cast a spell, the other felt the consequences.

"They decided to create a world, and players to inhabit it. Admins were appointed to keep the players in check. Mobs were created to provide food and service to the players and Admins. The five races lived in peace. Then the Watchers turned. They created hostile mobs to attack the peaceful mobs and players. The nether, to banish those they didn't like. They finally created the end, a realm guarded by a dragon, where they fled."

As the Vex spoke, the events played in front of Cub. He couldn't help but feel angry towards the Watchers. He knew this could all be false, but everything seemed to line up with what he knew.

"Before they left, they told the Admins that this was all the Vex's fault, and they were the good guys. Looking more humanlike and trustworthy, the humans turned on the Vex. They promised to watch over them and help them protect them from the Vex. This is why they are called Watchers. Their last gift to the players was swords. Weapons designed only to harm each other, and able to hurt the Vex."

The vision changed to a figure with their back turned. It was what looked like a shorter watcher.

"The Watchers have returned. They are preparing to do whatever it takes to destroy us."

Cub couldn't hold in his questions any more. He asked the biggest question he had.

"Why us? Why give us these powers? Why give players this power?"

"Well, it was not our idea. The Watchers decided to force their powers upon a player, and they are supposed to get all the Admins and Players on the Watchers side."

Cub decided to risk one last question.

"Who was that player?"

There was no response from the voice, instead the Watcher in the vision turned to face Cub. It was Grian, with a murderous looking smile, nothing like his normal gremlin grin. He had large purple wings spread out, making him appear larger, and he had pure purple eyes.

The vision wobbled a bit, and then Cub blacked out.
