Chapter 7: "I am sorry"

Frank's POV

The clock was ticking with a steady rhythm. I kept inspecting it for a few minutes, maybe an hour or so. Whenever I wanted to think about something, I did it like a clock. Steadily.

Tick tock...

I closed my eyes, to open my mind wide open for the memories to repeat themselves. I could feel the lavender scent in my bedroom filling my nose. Back then it used to make me smile, I loved lavender and Natalie used to put it because she knew it was my favorite.

Now it feels like she is mocking me. I felt rage pulsing through my veins instead of blood.

Tick tock...

The memories came into action inside my closed eyes as if it was a movie starring me, Natalie and Martin.

Tick tock...

Five months ago:

The lightening was soaring along with the terrifying sound of the thunder. The wind was making a horrifying sound that was echoing through the walls of the office of my company. I knew from the weather forecast that there was a storm coming up, but I didn't expect it to be this powerful.

I stood facing the view of my 17th floor-office. The trees were kissing each other sideways, the clouds were covering the beauty of the moonlight. The lights of the town were shining bright, making the scenery breathtaking.

I turned to zone out through the pictures resting on my black modern desk. The first one was for me and Natalie holding each other sideways with both of our eyes closed from laughter.

Oh, Natalie. She was the dearest thing to my heart and soul, the one who saved me from the darkness of hate. After Samantha cheated on me with someone else, I felt like I was stabbed in the back with daggers.

Natalie was the one who pulled those daggers off my back and healed my wounds afterwards.

The other picture was for my 3 angles. My eyes stayed still on Henry for a while, he was smiling like he always was. I never remembered Henry without a smile, he was most certainly the most positive person among us all.

I saw a better version of me in him, a version without complications or insecurities. My eyes couldn't help themselves, but forcing a tear out.

The peaceful look on his face, that I saw on the day of the accident never left my mind. I held the frame closer to me, tightening my embrace around it.

"I miss you, son." I smiled weakly at it then placed it back with its right angle.

⭐︎⭐︎⭐︎⭐︎⭐︎

As I reached home, I pulled out my keys from my pocket to hear Natalie's destining voice. I couldn't make out what she was saying, but I was certain she was talking to someone.

However, when I opened the door I found her just standing near the door. She greeted me with a kiss on the cheek and a huge hug. My eyebrows knotted in the confusion of her missing me that much.

"Let me place this on a hanger." She took my navy blue jacket suit and quickly headed up the stairs.

I took the chance of her being gone to check out her phone. Even though I trusted her, I was dead sure she was talking to someone before I came.

I investigated the call dials and found the last call was to someone named M.B.

The moment I heard Nate's footsteps coming closer I asked her right away: "Who is M.B?" I showed the phone in my hand on purpose for her to understand.

"M.B is..Martha Brian, from the bank I used to work in. She was inviting me to go to her daughter's wedding next Wednesday." She replied so sluggishly as if she was figuring out what to say while she was already saying it!

I told her I was going to be busy that day as I wanted to test out if she would convince me to go with her like she usually does or not. Surprisingly, she dropped it off and told me it was okay.

That moment I felt like there was something off, she was hiding something from me.

⭐︎⭐︎⭐︎⭐︎⭐︎

My mobile alarm's ocean waves filled my bedroom at 7:00 am. I turned it off and continued to stare at the mint green ceiling like I was all night long. My mind was shouting with doubts and conflict when I thought about all the things that made me suspect her.

I did hear her talking to someone over the phone before I enter the house.

I did find out she was calling "Martha" but hung up on her last-minute before I came.

And I most certainly saw her not caring that much if I went with her to the wedding or not.

I sighed in frustration and ran my hand over my face, then I rolled around to look at my sleeping beauty.

"But she is not Samantha." A sound inside me assured me.

Samantha was the most selfish person I had ever seen. When we were first married, she was like a trophy I earned. Something I cherished and tried to keep for the rest of my life. I loved her and she loved me.

After Sam was born she changed, she got more depressed, more pathetic. She couldn't handle him well at first then she started to stop taking care of him. She started to drink more than usual, first on a daily basis. Then 2 cups a day then one bottle a day then day drinking then...

Then she lost counting and so did I.

Not only did she become irresponsible and ignorant, but also a cheater.

The woman I was looking at was most certainly not Samantha.

"She couldn't be her, I mean look at her." I thought as I took in the portrait of the most beautiful woman.

Her short, black hair rested on the pillow without getting knotted. Her face was something I could stare at for hours without getting bored. Her scent, lavender, was making me even more attracted to her.

She was a perfect mother and wife. No need to overthink her actions. No need to doubt her.

⭐︎⭐︎⭐︎⭐︎⭐︎

As I descended downstairs I found Natalie adding her final touch to the food. She made spaghetti with meatballs, my favorite food of all time.

The dining room was light purple painted with the 10 seats-table centered in the room. The table was rectangular with a vase on top of it. It was an empty vase, we no longer cared about buying flowers.

I watched Ellie's trembling hands adjusting the white plates on the dining table.

"Is everything alright honey?" I asked her assuringly as I placed my hand over hers. Her hand was so smooth but cold. With her eyes sticking on the plates, she answered: "Yeah, I am okay. Just thinking about what to wear on Wednesday."

The moment she replied, Haley came into view with a scowl on her face.

"What's on Wednesday?" Haley asked in confusion as she sat down next to me. Natalie stiffened a bit like she wasn't ready for another question to answer.

"I am going to a friend's wedding on Wednesday, that's all." Nate replied with a weak smile and Haley just nodded with mumbled 'okay'.

For some reason, I kept my eyes on her as we were eating our meal. I felt like she wasn't comfortable next to me. She kept zoning out and barely ate anything from her plate. It's not that I felt something was wrong with her. I knew it.

When we finished eating, I offered to help her with the plates. She started washing them while I brought them for her to the kitchen.

I kissed her shoulder lightly so, she can pay attention to me. She closed the water tap and wiped her hands with a yellow piece of cloth.

"I know there's something wrong with you, sweetheart. Why are you hiding it?" I inquired thoughtfully as I held her arms

Her face drew a smile that covered her emotions behind it and she just shrugged.

"Nothing is wrong, Frank. I am just a tad tired." She looked behind me then she focused on my eyes.

She was lying. Her eyes were the ones who busted her. It was hard to lie to someone you have lived with for more than 17 years.

"If you say so." I let the topic go. She wasn't going to tell me anything, but I wasn't planning that she had to. The only thing I needed was Wednesday to come and it was only two days away.

⭐︎⭐︎⭐︎⭐︎⭐︎

"Red or blue? Maybe grey? Yeah, grey is the color for today." I thought as I was deciding what color for the pajamas to wear. I actually picked what to wear according to what my mood was for the day. That's why grey is the most suitable for the state Natalie left me for the past days.

I didn't want to overthink the new attitude she started to use recently, but I couldn't just neglect all her weird moves. She never liked to use the mobile yet I found her using it multiple times.

After wearing my pajamas, I opened the black wooden door to find Natalie standing next to the nightstand. She turned to face me with a fake normal pose, her lips were in a straight line.

"What are you doing there?" I asked with a brow puckered up. She smiled awkwardly at me and said hesitantly: "I was just....checking my hair. I am thinking about dyeing it in crimson red, it will be a great makeover. What do you think?"

Dyeing her hair is an insane idea for Natalie to do. I remembered when she dyed it once in sunny-blonde then her hair turned to almost a wig's texture. She swore to never dye her hair ever again.

She was lying. Again.

My face went hard and I couldn't just hold myself anymore.

"Natalie, you are lying! What crimson red are you talking about?" I growled angrily at her.

"I am not lying. I really am thinking about a change. Why do you always think I am hiding something?" She dodged my question with another bullet question.

Her words rang into my ear with someone else's voice. I had heard the exact same words before and they were the most detested to me.

Why do you always think I am hiding something were the words that I once believed from Martha. Certainly, that was before I figured out she was cheating on me.

But again she wasn't Samantha.

My face dropped as I recalled the dreary memory then I motioned for Natalie to come closer to me. I grabbed her hands in mine and gazed at her with condensed feelings.

At that moment I felt like I was exposed, vulnerable. I hated to be that fragile, but I knew it was okay to be like that in front of the most person I had ever loved.

"Look, Nate, I am sorry for all the tension I caused" I apologized almost pleading inside me that I didn't scare her away.

"It's alright, I get it. You are afraid that I would do what Samantha did, but I am not a cheater like her." She nodded assuringly and my face softened as her words soothed me.

"I love you, Nate." I announced affectionately and her eyebrows went to her forehead, but she didn't waste any time to reply back with her soft voice: "And I love you more with every day I live and till I die,"

I beamed at the response I needed to hear from her and embraced her in a long, lovely hug.

"Sometimes, I think you need to have a reminder of that." I was looking downwards, searching her eyes deeply for a peaceful answer to rest my devilish thoughts aside.

"A reminder is only needed when you forget sweetheart. I never forgot that you love me and I never will." She said appealingly then I kissed her forehead and we headed to hit the sack.

⭐︎⭐︎⭐︎⭐︎⭐︎

I finished my work early in my office and decided to go home early. When I was two houses away from mine, I saw Natalie going out with her light purple dress. I turned off the lights of the car immediately so that she wouldn't spot me.

She seemed to be in a hurry as she kept huffing while trying to get her keys from her petite purse. Her hair was perfect as always, the streetlights reflected her matt-black hair.

When she got inside and I heard her car roars to life, I felt like I should follow her. It was an excellent chance to see whether my thoughts about her were right or, hopefully, wrong.

I kept my blue jaguar hidden among the other cars so that she wouldn't notice it. My plan succeeded until we reached a restaurant. There were white flashy lights shaped in the words "Casablanca Night".

This was most definitely not a wedding.

I clenched my hands into fists as I processed the fact that she was fooling me for days. A hundred questions popped inside my head, but all of them had to wait.

A woman wearing formal clothes reached her, I assumed she was working there. I anticipated the moment of truth that was coming closer and closer as the woman led her between the tables.

"Maybe she'll see a friend of hers?" My rational, kind side of me hoped the answer to this inner-question is yes.

No longer than a few seconds after the thought crossed my mind optimistically, I found a man standing greeting her. I couldn't see his face clearly due to them sitting away from where I parked the car.

However, I saw clearly that he kissed her hand.

My blood started to boil in my veins, like a lava stream. That moment it all added up together. The text messages, the weird attitude, and M.B.

Who on Earth was M.B.? From what I could saw this guy was certainly not Martha Brian. Unless Martha has a buzz cut and greets her friends with a kiss on the hand.

I couldn't believe it and by "it" I mean the truth. The truth that was crystal clear for me without anyone percent chance of being wrong.

They didn't take long to get to the eating part of their date. I just waited for them to finish so, that I could see what will happen further than a kiss on the hand.

When I saw the plates were carried away by the waiter, I got out of the car to be closer to their table. Their table wasn't the closest one to the glass walls, but they weren't that far either. The man's features were clearer to me yet I didn't find him familiar.

What should I do with his face? I wanted to know more about him rather than see his filthy face.

He smirked to something Natalie said then she fumbled in her purse to grab something. A bank cheque!

Not only did she lie to me and met a man secretly, but also she gives him a cheque from my money. I worked hard to give her that money and she gives it to her secret man.

After putting some money on the table, she stood up straight like a robot."Maybe he is a businessman?" Again, my rational side tried to persuade the devil inside me.

The action I saw next from that guy wasn't what a businessman would do, at least the respectful ones like me.

My patience was one step away from going empty. I could've gone inside to crack his hand, but I didn't. I wanted to see more, to learn more about how far their relationship went behind my back.

He grabbed her arm stopping her from leaving then placed her hands in his. They were close, close like the distance between you two shoulders. He was saying something then suddenly ran his hand over her hair.

He moved closer to her, their faces were only mere inches apart. She didn't take a step back, she didn't even move a limb from her body. I didn't see her face and I didn't want to.

I couldn't watch anything anymore afterwards. My heart was pounding crazy from all that I just witnessed with my two own eyes. I growled as loud as a lion can roar once I was back inside the car.

She stabbed me in the back, she betrayed me. She cheated on me and she spends my money on her boyfriend. She was worse than Samantha.

My vision got fuzzy with tears and I felt like I wanted to cry like a baby. I wanted to know what did I do so, that she just love someone else. I gave her everything, I tried my best to be the perfect husband.

But I wasn't perfect and neither was she. What I thought of her being an angel and all was just a lie. She healed my past wounds only to injure me more deeply with her betrayal.

⭐︎⭐︎⭐︎⭐︎⭐︎

I sat in the dark living room for about an hour since I came from the restaurant. Haley was in her room and I hoped she was sleeping, I didn't want her to hear what was I gonna say next to her mother.

Soon I heard the motor of her car coming closer. She opened the door and removed her heels even before closing the door. I turned on the lights for her to see me sitting on the white comfy couch.

I walked to her with my arms crossed and glared at her deadly saying: "We need to talk."

The blood drained away from her face and she opened her mouth to say something but I stopped her.

"No, let me begin first. I don't want to hear your vexatious voice right now." I stated as steady as I could be. Her eyes were locking with mine like she begged me not to say what I was going to say.

"Today is a remarkable day, do you know why? I will tell you why, because today will be the last day we are going to be living under the same roof. And only a few days from now, we will no longer be married." I emphasized every word I said for her to understand well.

"Honey please listen to me..." She reached out for my hand, but I held her forcefully. Her eyes went wide and she stared at my hand.

"I've never landed a hand on you if you want it to stay the same way till we go apart. Don't.Call.Me.Honey." I spat the last few words for her and she jacked her hand away from me.

"You have to understand what happened today, please. It's not what it looked like." She pleaded and started to break down in tears.

"Is there something I need to understand after all what I saw?" I asked rhetorically and she nodded eagerly.

"We are going to divorce and that's final. We are over Natalie." I said then I saw Natalie's eyes going wide open to the maximum as she saw someone behind my back.

I turned to find Haley standing on the stairs with her eyebrows raised in shock from what she heard.

"Dad what did you say? What's going on?" She shook her head trying to process what she just heard.

"You heard what I said, your mom and I are going to divorce." He crossed his hands together and hold them on his chest.

"Please, I need you to listen to me. Just give me one minute." Natalie pressed. I let out a sigh of frustration and went upstairs without a word.

"Dad! Dad, where are you going?" Haley followed me and I got a suitcase out of the dressing room, packing my essentials. I didn't want to talk, I didn't want anything from anyone. I just wanted to be gone from there.

"Please just answer me, what happened?" She inquired as she lifted her hands upwards to hit her hips desperately.

"You want to know what happened Haley, go ask your mother. Go ask her who she met today and leave me alone." A line of sweat was starting to form on the tip of my hairline from all the power I exerted to tell her those few words.

"I will ask her, but please don't leave me. I need you." Her voice started to rise and I just couldn't take it.

"I am sorry," I muttered as I zipped the yellow suitcase closed. Haley's features were aching my heart, they showed pain, shock, and innocence.

I grabbed my suitcase and cascaded down the stairs to find Natalie crying her eyes out on the couch.

"My lawyer will contact you for the paper regulations," I informed her and didn't waste any longer time to be with her. I opened the door to face the moonlight all shiny and bright.

⭐︎⭐︎⭐︎⭐︎⭐︎

I felt hands shoving me slightly waking me up from my nap. There was someone calling my name repeatedly.

"Frank. Frank. Frank wake up!" I looked up to find Mom waking me up.

"Mom, what's going on?" I asked, unaware of what might be so urgent for her to wake me up from my sleep.

"Come on, we have a situation downstairs." She stated with an alerted expression on her face.

⭐︎⭐︎⭐︎⭐︎⭐︎⭐︎⭐︎⭐︎⭐︎⭐︎

I had to end it with a cliffhanger, sorry guys!

Frank's POV is interesting to read about right? I tried my best to focus on emotions so tell me if I did that part well.

Now that you know it from both Natalie's and Frank's perspective, who do you side with the most? I am not gonna say I'm biased towards either side, I have to stay neutral for both of their sakes in my book.😇

What do you think was the situation that Frank's mom talked about?

Werewolves or Vampires?🙈

Black or White?🤔

I know those questions are weird, but I'm just curious.☺️
