Chapter 2

Wind howled as it blew against the walls of a wooden shack. A man rose from a stool and proceeded over to the window. He stared out at the ocean. Its blue waves mocking him. These waves had trapped him on this island almost twenty years ago, and try as he might, they refuse to let him leave.

Taking a deep breath, he turned towards the back of the hut. An animolid male laid on the bed sleeping. It was his turn to brave the water for food. Dare he wake him? The man's blade hair glistened in the sunlight through the window as he pulled away. So many lives where lost that day at sea. Nimrod, however, had managed to pull him out of the wreckage before the Kraken claimed them both.

"Was there something you wanted, Jerod." The tiger growled. Jerod turned towards the water once more. There had to be away off this island? There had ate be a way they hadn't thought of. Jerod let off a sigh, his wings of freedom, his strongest flying spell couldn't keep him flight long enough to reach land. What hope do they have left?

"Nothing, Nimrod, just thinking about things." The tiger sat up from his bed of leaves. His slanted eyes narrowed as they gave through him. Jerod shivered. Nimrod didn't have a great power, but he could see at great distances and in the dark. What was going? Did he see someone? Jerod opened his mouth to question him. Nimrod held up a paw for him to stay silent.

"Whats wrong?"

Nimrod's narrowed eyes grew larger before staying into Jerod's purple ones. "I see bandits Icerr to be excat. I thought I saw them once when we got here, but they never showed up again, until now." Jerod swallowed a lump in his throat. The Icerr were known for being deadly and harsh with the people they were harassing. The horns that curled from their head and their pointed barbed tails. They were a menses to be sure. Rekin's were terrified of them. As good as warriors as they may be, Icerr's can end their elf with one swift stick from their tail.

"What do you think they want?"

"Not sure, but I fear we will find out soon, they are headed as direction."

Jerod's blood froze as a knock come at the door. Nimrod rose to his feet and withdrew his sword from its scabbard. Seconds flew by, until I vice rang out from the other side, "Knock it in!" A loud thud sounded from the other side as a male with grey skin with matching horns and white hair, sent the door flying off its hinges.

Jerod covered his face with his arms. The doo flew to the left of him barley missing his body. "Who are you?" Nimrod hissed from his right.

"I am Captain Eliza of the SeaHorse pirates." A woman with pitch black skin remarked as she approached the males. Her eyes were solid grey. They seemed cold, harsh, perhaps even bloody thirsty. What did the pirates want with them? The captain made her way next to Jerod before coming to a stop.

"As you can see, we don't have anything you want."

Eliza ignored Nimrod and grabbed Jerod by his left ear digging her nails into him in the process. Jerod winced as she yanked him closer. "Wrong, I want him."

"Me?"

"Rumor has it, you're the death mage that killed his wife. I'm here to off you a job. Work for us and you won't have to go to jail. Refuse and we will leave you to die on this island, slowly in pain with no mercy." Eliza licked her bottom lips as she spoke. Jerod quivered. How did she found out about Astrid? Why would she want to offer him a job in the first place?

"Why would I agree to listen to you?"

"I can help you find your daughter."

Jerod froze. How would she be able to help her find Marinette ? It wasn't possible. Eliza cocked her head, waiting for his diescin. The mage turned towards his friend. Icerr had moved behind him with their tails passed ready for an attack incase he got out of hand. Thoughts whirled through his mind. On one hand, they could leave the island for good and perhaps he could see his daughter. On the other hand, they were criminals, who knew whether or not they would stay true to their words.

"Fine, I will go with you on one condition."

"Name it.

"Nimrod comes too."

Eliza sighed as her eyes wandered behind him. Whether they liked it or not, they were in this together, nothing could change that. The captain let off a sigh before returning back to him. "Fine, he can stay in the brig." Captain Eliza turned her back on the duo.

"That's not."

"Look, he has been a thorn in my side since childhood, he's lucky I don't end him while I have him surrounded. Come, we must leave now."

Jerod took a step forward, his limbs felt heavy and weak even. They had never felt like that. Something deep inside told him he was making a wrong choose but what choice did he have? They were his only way of the island. He couldn't turn them down could he? Yet a sick feeling remained in his stomach as he followed her out into of the cabin.

Captain Eliza laughed as a row boat landed on the back allowing several crew members to disembark. "Boy, are we going to have some fun at the next port." She spun around with balled up fits on her back facing the company, "Maybe tonight if we're lucky." What did she mean by that? Nimrod growled. He knew these pirates better than Jerod did. Perhaps he knows something he doesn't.

A hand smacked his back hard, he moved forward against his will. Deal or not, he they intended to treat him like a prisoner. Captain Eliza's smile turned into a frown as she spun back towards the small row boats. "Next time, move faster and you won't get hit. Soon, you will learn the ways of the crew and function as a full member, but till then, you're nothing but a cabin boy."

Jerod turned his head towards Nimrod. The males were used to their surrounding area of sand and palm trees. It was a safe bet the Icerr found them here by accident. Nimrod's silences and lack of brute force told him he was thinking of a plan. He just hoped it didn't include his death. The tiger turned his way with his eyes bright and hopeful. He raised a finger to his lips singing silence. Whatever he had planned, he was going to use it to escape and it involved stealing the ship from under the Captain's nose.
