(Peril's PoV)

Peril was crying in her stone bed at the Jade Mountain Academy, like she usually did.

She cried for multiple reasons, for her mom, Kestrel, and for herself, for living. She was a monster, a killer. She killed when she was an egg, taking away the fire from her twin brother. Even if Queen Scarlet hadn't made her mom kill him, he probably wouldn't have lasted long anyways.

Queen Scarlet.

Queen Scarlet had made her a killer. Queen Scarlet had ruined her life.

"Sweetheart, you don't really think I ruined your life do you? I just... let's say...made it more thrilling."

Peril jumped, turning around to see Queen Scarlet behind her. She opened her mouth to scream, but Scarlet snapped chains around her muzzle.

"Now, now, don't scream. We want an 'accident', would we?"

Peril, in answer, screamed as loud as she could with her mouth closed.

Lightning flashed behind Scarlet's eyes.

"What? You're not happy to see me? I'm hurt!" She yanked the chains off Peril's muzzle, scratching it. Why didn't the chain melt?

"What. Do. You. Want." Peril growled dangerously, limbs trembling, aching to fly at Scarlet and kill her, but she couldn't. Why couldn't she move?

"Why, I only want you." Scarlet purred. "Just come to me and your friends don't get hurt."

"NEVER!" Peril snarled, "I hate you!"

Scarlet's gaze darkened "You asked for it." She popped open a vile of purple liquid "W-what is that?" Peril asked, suddenly frightened. She had a bad feeling about that liquid, it had evil written all over it.

Scarlet splashed the liquid on Peril, and everything went dark.
