Chapter 17
Moon's PoV
When Moonwatcher woke up, Winter was still there, still standing at attention, although with red all around his mouth and talons, it wasn't as impressive as he had been before she fell asleep.
"They must have taught you well at...what, guard school?" Moon yawned, stretching, and giggled a little at Winter's new look.
Winter snorted, "I don't go to 'guard school'." He said.
"Well then," Moon asked, "what school do you go to?"
"I go to Jade Mountain Academy." Winter said with a straight face.
Moon made an exasperated noise, "What school did you go to?"
"I didn't go to school," Winter said, pretending to be offended, "I was tutored by only the best in the Ice kingdom." Winter boasted, then deflated, and Moon knew, even without reading his mind, that he was thinking about how he could never go back to his home again.
"Tell me about the Ice kingdom," Moon said, desperately wanting to cheer him up.
Winter brightened, "It's wonderful! Everything and everybody has its own place, and order and organization are the priority, justice too. Dragons can earn their way up the ranks, so some want in the lowest circle can end up being in the first, if they work hard enough. Every dragonet is expected to work and fight tooth and claw for his spot.
"It's beautiful too. The ice and snow reflect a thousand colors. You think the Ice kingdom its just white and blue? In some places, the aurora borealis shines every night. Ohh." Winter breathed in deeply and leaned his head back against his tree, remembering.
Moon, who was too absorbed in the story to keep Winter's mind in a raindrop, saw one of the most beautiful sights she had ever seen. In Winter's memory, light bathed every snow drift, glowing green and pink, blue and purple, and some colors Moon didn't know the name of. Colors lighted up the icy sea, danced off the animals on the shore. Unknowing of the action, Moon let out a soft gasp at the picture, and Winter nodded.
"Yeah," he breathed, then he looked at her, his expression unreadable.
Moon turned pink, "S-sorry." she muttered, then cursed herself, Frog spit! I just had to choose that moment to stutter, didn't I?
Winter gave an odd sort of smile, "It's okay. At least I don't have to try and explain it to you."
His smile gave Moon the impression that he was in a sort of inward pain. Moon sealed Winter's raindrop tightly.
Moonwatcher looked at the sun, "Well, I just woke up form a nap, but the day's almost over...What do ya wanna do?"
Winter looked at the sky too, "Well, I got all this energy from standing around, so I'd say let's go. We know where we are now, so we could go to Possibility...But we'd have to disguise you, huh? Or at least hide the scales by your eyes..."
"We could go...I think I know how I could hide my scales," she picked a berry from Winter's talons and squished it with her claws, "How well do you think these berries stain?"
