Peril's PoV

Peril frowned as she looked around from the top of the cave. Hadn't Moon been gone long enough?

She spotted a large lizard and impaled it with her talon, watching in morbid satisfaction as it curled up, blackening.

Kinkajou bounded up to Peril, saying, "Did you spot them?"

Peril shot an annoyed glance at the now green, blue, and yellow RainWing. "Of course I didn't spot them, or I would of told you."

Peril didn't quite know how that RainWing was so cheerful all the time. She was like a forest fire; amazingly overwhelming, and never seeming to go out or dim.

Peril directed her attention away from Kinkajou and scanned the area around her again. The ground around the cave seemed sturdy enough, but about a hundred wing-lengths from it, the ground started breaking up into small plateaus.

Peril pondered on why they hadn't come back yet, Moon had promised to come back in the morning...

Peril turned around swiftly, setting the grass at her feet on fire. Funny, she didn't remember there being any grass on top of the cave... Then she looked up and saw that she wasn't on top of the cave. Peril shook her head hard and scrubbed at her eyes. These.....holes in her memory were getting worse and worse... She didn't know why...maybe it was something in the environment, the air was so gritty with dirt and grime, that she felt like she was being buried alive...

Maybe a nap would do her better, Moon had told her to watch Kinkajou anyways, and watching her always made her exhausted, even though it was only morning.....

Peril woke up to Kinkajou teasing her, "Who's the lazy bum now? I don't recall me ever sleeping from dawn to dusk!"

Peril sat up abruptly, causing Kinkajou to jump back to avoid her flaming wings, "What? How could I sleep from morning to night?" Peril yelped, incredulous.

"Well you did," Kinkajou looked at Peril crossly, "and I had a fine time trying to get enough fruit and lizards for the both of us." Kinkajou motioned to separate piles of food, Peril's lizards piled close to her, baking in her heat.

"Anyways, you wouldn't have been so tired if you hadn't flown so long last night." Kinkajou continued.

Peril started, "I didn't go out last night! What are you talking about?"

Kinkajou looked at Peril strangely, "Yeah, you did."

"Do, I didn't."

"Yes, you did!"

"No I didn't!"

"Yes you did!"

"No!"

"Yes!"

"No no no no!"

"Yes yes yes yes!"

"Nooooooo!"

"Yeeeeeees!"

"No, I swear, Kinkajou, I didn't!" Peril stopped and shook her head, "This is pointless. I must have sleepwalked or something."

Kinkajou snorted, and Peril knew that it was a poor excuse, but she didn't go out last night, and so what if Kinkajou didn't believe her, didn't matter anyways.

But it does matter. Peril's mind whispered, and it was true. She had gotten used to being trusted, and even if others were scared to death around her, they wouldn't really accuse Peril of lying.

That brought a somewhat startling fact to light, "Why aren't you scared of me?" Peril ask inquisitively, turning to Kinkajou.

Kinkajou tilted her head, "You know, I don't really think about it. Unless you go all fiery death monster on me, you're not that scary, just a dragon with one of the deadliest powers on Phyrria."

"You do know that's the very reason why most dragons scream and throw crocodiles when they see me." Peril observed dryly.

"I know." Kinkajou said spritely, and headed towards the mouth of the cave, "I'm going to look for Moon." She called behind her shoulder.

"Yeah, yeah," Peril said, deep in thought, "Just don't get lost."

WHAT? Peril and Kinkajou alone in a cave?
