48. For Eternity.
Time flew by and days turned into a blurred memory of everything happening around. Wajahat had shut his heart and mind and did everything his mom asked him to with a forced comforting smile plastered to his face.
He wanted to escape but one look at his parents made him rooted to his place, he barely noticed Falak on their mehendi ceremony. Her friends teased them both but he spared her a glance once and fixed his eyes forward. He had never imagined himself with someone else. He released a heavy sigh to lighten the burden ln his heart but he only felt suffocated with all the gathering around. Falak understood Wajahat's agony, her heart ached for his pain but she could only wish for all his pain to vanish.
*******
Finally it was their big day.
Their Nikah.
Falak came out of the washroom, drying her hair with a towel. She sat infront of the mirror and and started applying moisturizer. She gazed at her reflection, dressed in a simple pink Kurta and white palazzo, wet locks plastered to her neck and temple. She released a nervous deep breath. She knew her decision was not an easy one and she also knew the only thing which was going to keep her sane was patience. She needed to be Wajahat's friend before being his wife. With that thought her face glowed with a determined smile.
"Falak!!" She turned to Mehek's voice.
"Oh Allah!! May this glow always remain on her face." Mehek's heart wished.
"Come on cutie pie!! Let's get you ready." Anaab said searching for all the essentials in her vanity box.
"Cutie pie!? Like seriously Anaab!?" Falak piqued at her.
"Yeah!!! Because all those endearments will be reserved under Jiju's name." She winked at her. Falak rolled her eyes.
One hour later, after lots and lots of giggling and bickering Falak was ready.
"Falak......!" Ateeb entered the room only to be stopped dead on his tracks. His eyes watered at the sight infront of him. His little sister was going to be married today. There she stood all dolled up in maroon velvet lehenga embellished in copper sequins and zardozi work. Adorned with diamond and ruby bridal jewellery she looked no less than a fairy.
He strode towards her, with moist eyes and a happy smile he hugged her, her expressions mirrored his own.
"Masha Allah." Was all he could say, his voice tight with emotions. A few tears made it's way out of Falak's eyes. The reality of leaving her family behind hit her hard.
"Allah, Allah... please don't do this... I spent forty five minutes solely on your make up and you can't spoil them with just 5 drops of tears." Anaab pleaded. Everyone laughed at her words.
"Come on, let's go. Mom and dad must be waiting for us." Said Mehek, adjusting Dupatta on Falak's head. Both Tehreem and Kafeel were speechless. Their only princess was not just gonna be theirs anymore. Tehreem hugged her hard. Silent tears making their way out of her eyes, Kafeel turned his head sideways wiping the corner of his eyes. Indeed they were happy but, All these days everyone were busy preparing for the big day but none were ready to prepare themselves for this moment. For the actual reality that today the apple of their eyes was gonna leave to her home. She will be someone else's responsibility. The reality of her not being there with the anymore sliced their hearts.
Kafeel and Tehreem left for the venue first followed by Ateeb, Mehek, Falak and Anaab. The journey was a quiet one, each one occupied with their own thoughts.
Mehek and Anaab led Falak upstairs, where they had allotted a room for her. Her Nikah was yet to be done. Only after her Nikah will she be finally on the stage.
The moment she entered the room, she was engulfed in a hug by fiza, followed by rida, Adal, and Sania. She smiled at them. Adal went down with Ateeb and both of them came back again with the qazi.
Ateeb brought forward the Nikah certificate. Falak grabbed hold of the pen, her hands shook with fear, not knowing what might be her future. She took a deep breath and shrugged all the unwanted thoughts aside and signed the papers with a bright smile and determined heart, thinking.
"No matter what the situation is, no matter how tough I need to be, no matter how hopeless I might feel... from this moment on I will always be yours. For eternity." She addressed Wajahat in her heart.
*******
The glorious sound of congratulations echoed through out the hall after the dua of the Nikah was done. Wajahat remained stoned to his place, his heart void of emotions but deep down today he was feeling more scared then he'd ever been. He gulped the lump in his throat and smiled at his Father who hugged him with eyes wet and the most happiest smile on his face. He was the happiest person. Finally today his son was married.
"Allah, please make this bond the source of eternal happiness." His heart bowed before the almighty.
Ateeb, Adal and Hisham guided Wajahat upstairs where he was supposed to see his wife.
His heart rate spike up. He took out his handkerchief and wiped off the sweat from his forehead.
He found himself standing inside the room. where Falak was seated on a couch at the far end. He strode towards her and without further thinking sat right beside her. Her heart skipped a beat.
"Assalamu alaikum." He said after long minutes of silence.
"Walaikum assalam." He received a mere whisper as his response.
He did not know what to say next. Suddenly he was furious at his situation. His fate and everything that had been Happening around him. He felt suffocated and frustrated about it.
Falak was having a close watch on him. Dressed in black sherwaninsalwar with copper zardozi embellishment on the collar edge of sleeves he looked no less tha a prince. He looked tensed, she couldn't stop herself and got up from her seat striding towards the table near them and pouring a little water she came back and extended her hand, offering him water. Still no words exchanged between them. He looked at the glass, releasing an irritated sigh and gulped down the whole content. She sat beside him still in veil.
"Expecting something from a man who has already been bruised up is stupidity and I hope you are smart enough." He said in a gruff voice. Falak nodded at him. He was now confused. His eyes were wide as saucers. Falak stifled a laugh looking at his expression.
"Anyways. Nikah Mubarak. " he said sounding defeated. She raised her eyes and smiled at him. Still hidden behind the veil. She just nodded her head at him. He left the room without further ado. After a series of congratulations from relatives and friends. Finally he was brought to the stage. Beautifully decorated in white and blush pink flowers all around. A huge halo decorated with white, beige, light pink and blush pink flowers with satin ribbons at the end and strings of Pearls wrapped around through out. The halo was placed vertically right behind the plush white double seater.
Mehek, brought Falak to the stage and made her sit beside him. Wajahat had become stiff as a rock. Not once did he glance at her. Mehek had removed her veil. The function came to end after long hours and it was now time for ruqsati. One of the most painful time for daughters and their parents.
Nobody could control their tears. Mehek and Falak hugged each other, crying like it was the end of the world. With great difficulty Ateeb seperated them. Somehow Wajahat found it funny. He turned sideways to hide his smile. Ateeb caught hold of Falak's hand, she was hiccuping bad. He kissed her forehead and made her sit inside the car.
"Please take care of her." Ateeb said to Wajahat. His voice thick with emotions. Wajahat could just nodded at him.
"Ateeb, beta you don't worry at all. She is our daughter and nobody troubles my daughter. " Ashraf's words made everyone smile. Wajahat sat beside Falak, with hisham driving the car.
"Come on Anaab let's go." Mehek's voice startled her.
"I'll join uncle and aunty. I don't want to be a third wheel between both of you." She said laughing. Mehek shook her head smiling. Both headed to the respective cars.
"The way you were crying for a moment I forgot she was my sister." Ateeb all but teased Mehek.
"She is my bestie, my sister and most importantly my partner in crime." Mehek said smiling, thinking about her
