5 : Draco
Song for the Chapter : Accidentally in Love ~ Counting Crows
Draco's POV
Okay, let me get one thing straight: I DO NOT HAVE A CRUSH ON HERMIONE GRANGER.
I'm saying this for my friend Blaise's sake, nobody else's. Ever since I told him over lunch that I'd found her crying her eyes out on the way to the common room, he'd burst out laughing and then told me I definitely had a crush on her.
I was about to object to him, but he was too busy laughing his ass off. And, right on cue, Pansy came sauntering over, wearing a school skirt that had deliberately been cut short. Raising my eyebrows at Blaise as a warning, he cleared his throat and fell silent, just as Pansy positioned herself firmly on my lap.
"What's so funny?" She asked sharply, narrowing her eyes at Blaise's tight-lipped smile that was obviously suppressing a load of laughter. I looked up at her with innocent eyes.
"Nothing," I murmured. I gave her a deliberately hard shove. "Pansy, can you get off my lap? I can't actually eat with your elbows in my face." Pansy huffed at me and slipped into the seat beside me, her head resting irritatingly against my shoulder. If there was somebody else in the world who I wanted to launch off the face of the earth in a catapult, I hadn't heard about them.
"You're boring, Draco," simpered Pansy, kissing my neck. Well, actually, it wasn't so much a kiss - more of her dragging her face across my skin. Whatever it was, it was disgusting and slobbery and...wet. "Let's go and do something fun." Blaise sniggered loudly and I knocked him in the ribs.
"Pansy, your idea of fun is very different to my idea of fun," I mumbled. This caused Blaise to snort out pumpkin juice all over my sleeve, something that I did not thank him for later. "Shut up, Blaise," I added angrily.
"Fine." Pansy groaned and stood up, purposefully picking up her short skirt as she went. "I'm going to go and bother somebody else." I watched her prowl along the Slytherin table to where a tall, dark guy who was probably in the year below us was sitting with his friends. I shuddered and returned to my food, although I suddenly found that I wasn't hungry.
"So, anyway," blurted Blaise, immediately after Pansy and the boy were out of earshot. "You and Hermione Granger?" I glared at him with such a death stare he almost looked frightened - a lot like the look Hermione had pulled on me earlier.
"No, Blaise," I said impatiently. "Not me and Hermione Granger. I told you! She was crying her eyes out and I...sort of...helped her. What was I supposed to do, walk past her and make a stupid remark?"
Blaise shrugged. "That's what you usually do." He smirked. "Anyway, you know I'm never going to stop asking you about her. She's actually pretty good looking. You know, when she's not crying." Blaise laughed and pointed her out to me, sitting alone at the end of her table.
I mean, in some respects he was right. Her dark hair fell in curls over her face as she bent over her food, her brown eyes were pretty when they weren't full of tears, and ever since the war had been over she'd definitely changed. But that didn't mean I was prepared to confess my love for her - which was nonexistent, by the way. Maybe Blaise had forgotten that I actually didn't like her, but I hadn't.
"Checking her out?" Laughed Blaise. I stared at him.
"I swear to god, Blaise, if you say that again I will kill you." He smirked.
"Not if you kill Pansy first." I groaned and rolled my eyes while Blaise proceeded to do a high-pitched impersonation of Pansy. "Oh, Draco, you're so boring. Why don't we go and do something fun?" Despite myself, I had to laugh.
I sighed, and my eyes lingered on Hermione for a moment more, eating alone at the end of the Gryffindor table. This day was getting weirder and weirder.
