Hermione's POV

"Sorry?" I asked faintly, feeling like I was in some vivid dream.

Draco froze and turned around, pale and ashen. My heart was pounding and my fingertips were tingling with anticipation. "Draco...what did you say?"

"Nothing!" He blurted out quickly, covering his face and lying back on the bed, staring at the ceiling. I hesitated for a moment and sat down beside him on the edge of the bed. 

"What did you say?" I repeated softly. 

He sighed and sat up slowly, rubbing his eyes. "I - I said I had a crush on you, okay? But I didn't mean it, it was just - I --"

Draco buried his face in his hands and mumbled, "I - I love you."

Little fireworks began to explode in my head and I blinked hard to rid my eyes of the dancing spots. My stomach seemed to have dropped far, far down. The worst part? I couldn't tell if he was lying. Every time Ron had told me he loved me, it had felt like a lie. And now I didn't know if I could trust anyone, let alone Draco Malfoy.

"Say it again," I murmured, grabbing his wrist and forcing his gaze to meet mine. "Please. So I know you're not lying to me."

"Hermione, I don't --"

"Say it," I pleaded, forcing back tears. "Say it. Please."

Draco swallowed. A single tear rolled down his cheek, glistening on his skin. 

"I love you."

Something explosive erupted in my head and I wrapped my arms around his neck, inhaling cigarette smoke and overpowering cologne and soft, salty tear tracks as my lips crashed down on his. I felt his sudden surprise as he lifted one hand and rested it against my cheek, kissing back for all he was worth.

He lost his hands in my hair and I smiled against his lips as my stomach bubbled and burned in sheer delight. I loved how soft his lips were, and how rough his skin seemed. I loved the smell that took me back to the night we sat side by side on the floor of the same room, smoking thick black clouds in sweet silence.

It felt like forever, but finally, we broke apart. I couldn't get my breath back quick enough, and for a while we stayed with our lips inches away from one another, gasping painfully, in awe of the last few moments.

"I love you," I said breathlessly, looking up at him with tears in my eyes. "I love you," I repeated, as my heart caught up with my lungs. "I love you."

Draco laughed blindly, running a hand over his forehead and through his hair, trembling all over. His eyes danced and he grabbed my hand, pulling me roughly off the bed and around in a circle until I fell backwards against the wall, laughing widely as the tears dried on my cheeks. He kissed me again, taking advantage of my open mouth, and my hair fell in my eyes, and everything around me fell into darkness.

"I love you, Hermione," repeated Draco, brushing the hair out of my face and kissing me again and again, each one better than the last. I'd never really believed in a single fairy-tale kiss, one magical kiss that steals your world. Instead, I had twenty.
