Performing the Past.
Blue shuddered as she looked at her phone. Her mother, as dear as she could be, had sent her a video of her first performance. It wasn't bad, she'll admit, but she couldn't get through it without locking down. A knock from the door brought her back to reality. She put her phone down and rubbed her face.
"Yes?" The door opened to Ruby and Blake. Concern washed over Ruby's face when he saw the senior.
"Are you ok?" Blake asked quietly. "We heard sniffling." She smiled slightly at them.
"Yeah... just getting some nostalgic from my mom. But I'm fine." Ruby went over and placed a hand on her shoulder while sitting beside her. Blake closed the door behind him and went over.
"Are you sure?" She hummed lightly before a tear raced down her cheek. Ruby brought her into a hug while Blake rubbed her back. "It's ok..." She gulped shakily as she cracked. After a few moments, she was able to pull away.
"Thanks Ruby... Blake..." Ruby smiled at the senior.
"What did your mom do?" Blue gulped as she picked up the phone and showed them the performance.
"My first performance... She knows how much I dread listening to the smaller form of me." Ruby smiled at her.
"You don't look like you changed much from back then." She frowned at him.
"Was that an insult?"
"No, that's a compliment because you're a beautiful senior, even back then." She paused before playfully pushing him.
"Such a flirt..." Blake frowned.
"But isn't that me?" The two older waves giggled at that. He smiled as he saw his goal in that. "But what's so bad about listening to your younger self?" Blue sighed.
"I've grown from that girl before. I sounded like a lower class person back then. She knows that. I hate listening to something I've excelled from." Blake hummed at that.
"Maybe she's trying to show how much you've improved. After all, listening to the past shows what you were before and you know how much you've improved." Blue gazed at him.
"Yes, but with the video it says 'remember how great you sounded back then?'" Ruby gulped.
"Now that's just cold." Blue nodded as Blake looked at the video.
"You know what you can do?" Blue hummed at him. "I did this with my own dad, but you can send her a video of you redoing it and put 'And hear how much better I am.'" The older two waves grabbed their mouths, trying to not bust out laughing at his words.
"What did your dad say to you?" Blake blinked at her words.
"That's classified. Why are you asking?" Blue shook her head.
"I'm just pointing out the sass you just put down." Ruby couldn't hold back the laughter after Blake tried to make a comeback. Whatever he was going to say died off as he closed his mouth. After a moment when Ruby could breathe, Blue sighed. "I could do that if I had the right instruments..." Ruby raised an eyebrow.
"The entire group plays an instrument, Blue. I'm sure we can get the right instruments." Blue frowned.
"Silver doesn't play." Ruby scoffed.
"Don't let him fool you. He can, he just refuses to acknowledge it publicly. I bet you rubbed off on him." Blue sighed.
"Probably. Let me find the music and then we'll see if we do. No promises."
The two boys nodded before going out to where the others were. Blue paused before going over to her desk. She opened a draw to several folders and shuffled through them until she found the piece. It wasn't a hard piece, but her mom didn't entirely trust her so she got several other players from the kingdom to join her. It sounded great and powerful, but most of the power was the other players in the group. She hoped that the others would be able to grasp it easily. She took the folder with the extras and went downstairs where the others were waiting. They were in several little conversations. Ruby and Silver were collided for some reason, while Platinum was beside it. Platinum kept slapping the arguing duo. Blake and Y were talking about something to the side. Forest and Cream were eyeing the others while looking over a paper. She sighed as she went over to them.
"Alright, which of you two am I killing?" Blake pointed at Ruby who opened his mouth in protest. She glared at him. He paused before gulping.
"Blake's idea."
"You're the one who put out we all play." Silver said, backing Blake up. Ruby frowned.
"When was the last time you picked that thing up?"
"I don't have to answer that and I can still ace the part." Ruby hissed before Platinum slapped him.
"Knock it off. You guys can't actually be still having that rivalry after all these years." Ruby huffed at her words. Silver shrugged and went over to Blake, looking at Blue.
"So what are we going to do?" She sighed as she held up the folder.
"I'm not going to like this, but let's see what this group can do. Because it's either that or I go bother the Riddles."

It wasn't hard getting parts, but the argument that followed made everyone feel a little better. There was a violin part, guitar line part, a drum kit part, a bassoon part, a keyboard part, a piccolo part, and a side percussion part. And Ruby had his eyes on something in particular.
"Why don't you give someone else the guitar part for once?" Silver glanced at the Hoenn wave with a frown. He was tuning a guitar that looked rather familiar, but Blue couldn't think of where she'd seen it. With a single strum, a beautiful cord appeared. "Besides, you would need multiple guitars to pull off the entire thing." Silver raised an eyebrow.
"If I can pull off two, this isn't much of a challenge. You have to consider what my dad was able to do and what he taught me." Ruby chuckled.
"If you say he was able to do more than two, Imma laugh. Two is a challenge for Red without him admitting anything. He can't do three without needing a little assistance. Don't even say anything like that." Silver scoffed lightly.
"Red also hasn't experienced anything extraordinary or extreme. Two instances my dad had to pull something like that off. One was him and a group of friends were performing and the other two guitarists' guitars lost several strings. He took over on a single guitar. The other was when They were down several people, he took four guitars and winged the entire performance. When you're under pressure, anything is possible, Ruby." Ruby hissed lightly.
"You can't play multiple guitars, Silver. You struggle with two already."
"You're jealous."
"I'm not jealous. You just are showing off."
"Ruby, you're mad that you have to be on your cute little violin against my superior skills."
"Silver, you're not playing multiple guitars."
"You're right. I'm not. But that's because I don't have multiple guitars to play. But I can take my one and pull it off." Ruby hissed.
"Overachiever." Silver opened his mouth to make a comeback.
"Guys! Knock it off!" Platinum finally intervened. The two boys stopped quickly.
"Sorry..." The room busted out laughing at that. Blue sighed.
"Silver... if you need help, I can easily do some shifting." Silver shook his head.
"A multi part guitar part against one experienced guitarist. Ruby is the only one that can take the violin part, which means he can't help. Unless you can name someone that's here and can play guitar, I'm the only one who can. Watch me pull this off. Besides, Ruby, don't you need to worry about your part?" Ruby hissed lightly.
"I can handle my part just well, thank you very much. Unless you want to come play it." Silver rolled his eyes as he strummed the guitar again, making the elegant cord fill the air.
"Then don't jump on my part. Focus on your own." Ruby huffed as he swiftly tuned his violin. Platinum sighed.
"Two performances and you two are still jumping on each other about that moment. Really?" Silver shrugged.
"Hey, there were three of us and he was needed on another part. He can't say anything. I was saving him from pure embarrassment." Ruby frowned.
"And showing off. I'll be surprised if you get through this thing. We should give you help." Y paused her tuning.
"Unlike you Ruby, who has a chance, some of us haven't had the same musical experience." Ruby raised an eyebrow.
"Really? What musical experience do you have?" Y narrowed her eyes.
"Camp of the Great Skills. It goes for almost two months in different parts of the year. And everyday for 1-2 hours I was practicing. Then after I got out I put it down and almost forgot about it. That's mine." Ruby glanced at the others that hadn't said anything. Forest frowned as he finished tuning the piccolo in his hands.
"Don't even start. I almost didn't get any learning. Pink's family was kind enough to teach me after I acknowledged my poor skills." Cream sighed.
"I had to self teach myself how to play many of the instruments I know, but it took months." Ruby glanced at Blake as he finished sorting out the side percussion. He noticed Ruby looking at him and paused.
"What?" The whole room giggled at his confusion. Ruby sighed.
"What musical experience do you have?" Blake hummed.
"Can I not answer this?"
"Are you hiding something?"
"No..." Blue smirked.
"Yeah, you've been hanging out with us for too long." Blake cracked a smile at that. The others giggled. Blue sighed as she looked over the lyrics. "Are we ready?" Silver gulped nervously.
"As we'll ever be, Blue." She nodded as they got into their spots. She took a deep breath as a root held the phone up. She gulped before counting them off.

As they finished, she snapped and the recording stopped. She took a gentle breath before taking the phone. Y applauded her.
"You sounded great, Senior Blue." The senior's face went red at that, which made the room giggle. Silver put his guitar in its case.
"I'm sure if we worked hard enough we can do more." Ruby laughed.
"You won't play in front of a crowd unless your identity is hidden. Be realistic." Silver frowned.
"If we do take this to a stage, which is unlikely, then we can have Blue in the front and the rest of us hidden behind her." Blue eyed the duo as they glared at each other.
"Knock it off... nothing is set in stone because we still need to see what my mom says. And I don't want to jump to anything before that." Blake nodded.
"I agree with that. Then we'll be able to know where we stand with our skills." The two boys nodded as Blue sent the recording.
"Let's see what happens."
