"Will you be quiet?" Jade whispered to the man next to her.
"You still haven't told me what exactly we're doing." Bucky exclaimed, quietly.
The two of them were crouched behind a shipping container by the docks. They'd parked their bike back along the road, hidden under an overpass. There were over twenty men loading crates onto a box ship. A crane was moving some containers from their trucks onto the ship.
"We're here to stop that ship." She pointed at the boat. "From leaving this dock."
"Are you serious?"
"No, I'm joking. We're actually here to go on a booze cruise." Bucky glared at her. "Yes I'm serious! We can't let that ship leave. I need information from it."
"Information about what?"
"Information about none of your damn business. Now shut up before someone hears us!" Bucky just groaned and rolled his eyes as he looked towards the boat.
"Let's see, there's at least twenty of them and oh, only two of us! Great plan, Jade. Great plan!" Bucky was suddenly pushed into the gap between their container and the one beside it. His back was pressed against the container, a hand over his mouth. Jade put her finger to her lips as two guards walked past.
"You need to be quiet." Jade whispered as the guards moved out of earshot. She was still pressed up against Bucky with her hand over his mouth. "Listen, those assholes have information on someone. Someone I've spent the past two years trying to find. And I intend to get it from them. Nobody forced you to be here so if you want to leave, you can go back to the bike and wait for me there. But I'm getting what I came here for." Her tone of voice was serious. "Now if I take my hand away, are you going to be quiet?"
Bucky nodded his head and she removed her hand. "Good, now let's move. And don't get in my way."
The two of them crept quietly between the containers, stopping at the other end of the alley. Jade was at the edge, Bucky next to her as they backed up against the container.
A guard walked past the gap and Jade slipped out behind him and put him in headlock. She used her other hand to cover his mouth before pulling him into the alley. She kicked the back of his leg and heard a crack. The mans muffled cries could be heard under her hand.
Jade removed her arm from around his neck and grabbed a knife from her the sheath on her thigh. Bucky grabbed her wrist when he saw the knife.
"What are you doing?" He whispered.
"Taking care of business." She replied. She pulled her wrist from his grasp and slit the mans throat. He collapsed face first onto the ground as he bled out. "What did I tell you?!"
"You just killed a man, Jade!"
"So?"
"So?! So he's a person, he probably has a family. And you just slit his throat like it was nothing."
"It is nothing!" Jade stepped over the body and pushed him against the container. "Do you wanna know what these men are doing? They're not just trafficking weapons, Bucky. They're trafficking people. Men. Women. Children. Anyone they can their hands on." She explained. "Then they take them somewhere so that rich, old men can come and pick out their favourites. You know who usually gets picked first? The little girls." Those words made Bucky feel ill.
"And their boss, the man running the show. He killed my sister. I found out what he was doing and I tried to stop him. And when I failed, he found her and he butchered her! She was innocent, she didn't deserve what he did to her. So do not try and tell me that their lives have meaning because they mean nothing to me!"
Bucky didn't know what to say. He gently cupped her face with his hand which made her look at him, confused. But she didn't pull away at his touch.
"I'm sorry. I'm sorry about your sister." He said softly before sighing. "Look, I'll help you, okay? I'm just worried that your rage, that your dire need for revenge is gonna get you killed." He stroked her cheek with his thumb.
Is he gonna kiss me or is he gonna mother me? Either way we don't have time.
"Trust me. I'll be fine." Jade pulled away from him and walked back to the edge of the container. "Okay, I count seven on the ground. That should be easy. There's at least fourteen on the ship, which is... less easy. But we'll manage. I've taken on more than that before. At least this time I have help." She nudged Bucky with her elbow and smiled at him.
"Will you at least take this." He held out a pistol towards her.
"Keep it. I'll find my own." At that Jade ran from the gap and forward rolled across the ground as she came up behind a guard. She pulled out her sword as she got to her feet and slit his throat. She picked up his gun and turned back to Bucky. She waved it at him and gave him the thumbs up before tucking it into her jeans.
Bucky just shook his head and smiled. He ran quickly from his spot over to her and they took cover behind a box.
"See." Jade gloated.
"You know you're crazy right?"
"Yep." Jade ran from cover and slid over a crate, kicking a guard before landing on her feet. She stuck her sword into his chest and ran towards another.
Bucky just watched as she took down guard after guard. Maybe she really didn't need him after all. He watched as she jumped on top of a crate and landed on the shoulders of a guard before sticking her knife into his head and front flipping off him. She landed gracefully each time.
It wasn't until an alarm went off that Bucky realised she might actually need his help. The alarm blared and red lights flashed around the ship. The sound of men yelling could be heard as they ran towards the ships ramp. Bucky knelt behind a crate, his gun resting on top of it.
He didn't shoot until they raised their weapons. It made his feel slightly better knowing they tried to shoot him first. He took down a couple of guards, mainly wounding them, before they could get close to him. Amongst the chaos he had lost Jade. Until he saw her bright red hair as she climbed a crane and grabbed onto a chain, using it to swing herself over the railing of the ship. Bucky scoffed as he continued to fire.
Jade landed on the ship, her swords drawn before her as she moved along the deck. She could heard the gun fire and hoped Bucky could handle himself.
He'll be fine. I hope. I'd really hate for him to get killed.
She made her way towards the back of the ship. A guard stepped round the corner and she kicked him in the stomach whilst she holstered her swords again.
The kick sent the man stumbling back before Jade grabbed the gun from his hands and turned it on him.
"Hi." She grinned. The man said nothing as he held his stomach. "I have a deal for you. You tell me where your boss is and I don't kill you, how's that sound?"
"Fuck you, I'm not telling you shit." He spat.
"Fine. Guess we'll do this the hard way." With one hand Jade grabbed one of her swords and spun it before stabbing it into his foot. The man cried out and fell backwards, using a box to steady himself up right.
"I don't know where he is." He groaned. Jade twisted the sword causing him to cry out again. "Please, I swear."
"You're lying." She twisted again.
"I'm not!" He cried. "I don't deal with the boss directly."
"Who do you deal with?"
"Woods. M-M-Matthew Woods." He stammered. "His r-right hand man."
"He got a promotion? Of course he did." Jade pulled the sword from the guards foot and instead of stabbing him, she put the gun between his eyes and squeezed the trigger. He fell to the floor.
Jade walked towards a stack of boxes that had some paper covering them. She scanned the pages for anything useful but it was mostly just old ships logs. The gunfire had ceased and she hoped Bucky had managed to take the guards out and not the other way around.
She sorted through the pages until she found something of use. It was a set of blueprints. She rolled them up and stuffed them into a drawing tube that lay nearby. She put the strap across her body, swinging the tube so it landed on her back and continued to explore the ship.
Jade had made her way to the front of the ship, taking down a lone guard on her way there. There were crates full of guns, rpg's, grenade launchers, practically any weapon you could think of. She leant against the railing as she looked over the ship. She then heard cries coming from a large green container below her. She jumped over the railing, landing on the container and jumped again to the floor.
As she reached for the container handle a hand grabbed her shoulder. She grabbed their wrist and twisted it before turning round.
"Ow." Bucky groaned. "Do you mind?" He nodded towards her hand that was currently gripping his wrist.
"What did I tell you about sneaking up on me?" Jade threw his hand back towards him and he rubbed at his wrist.
"You're lucky it was me or you'd be dead."
"Would I though?" She raised her eyebrow at him. "Would I be dead?" Bucky just rolled his eyes.
"What are you doing anyway?"
"I heard something. I think there's people in these containers." She grabbed the handle and tried to pull it up but it wouldn't budge.
"Here, let me." Bucky grabbed the handle with his metal arm and pulled it up, making it look easy.
"Show off." Jade crossed her arms as he pulled open the door. The moonlight shone into the container and their hearts dropped at the contents of the container.
"They're just kids." Bucky whispered as he stepped inside. The kids all scrambled towards the back, terrified.
"Hey, it's okay. We're here to help you." Jade knelt down in front of them. "Bucky, call the FBI hotline. Tell them where we are but be anonymous about it."
"Shouldn't we call the team?" He questioned.
"No." She stood up and turned to him. "Look, if Novikov finds out the Avengers are on his ass, I'll never find him. I can't take that chance."
"Novikov? He's the one who.."
"Yes. Now hurry. Tell them to make sure they check every single container on and around this ship. There could be people in any one of them." Bucky looked at her, debating whether this was the right call. "Just do it. Please."
"Okay." Bucky left the container and Jade turned to the kids.
"You're gonna be okay. Help is coming." She reassured them before leaving the container.
"Feds are on their way." Bucky told her as he ran back over. "Now what?"
"Now we get the hell out of here." Jade held the keys out towards him.
"Really?"
"You've earned it."
