Stupid football.
Stupid boys.
Stupid school.
Stupid life.
This is not how you wanted to spend your evening. Not in the nurses office.
You had just had got smacked in the head by a football by your boyfriend. Well, ex-boyfriend. Talk about a hard life.
And he wonders why you broke up with him.
You held the icepack on your head. Now you had to explain to your brother, Daichi, about why you have this big ol' lump on the back of your head. Knowing him, he'll blow up.
All you have to do is wonder if you should stop him or not.
You walked down the hallway, heading towards the gym to wait for him to be down with volleyball practice. It shouldn't be too lo-
"Oof."
A hard force hit your shoulder and you stumbled back, at full annoyance levels. You looked up, ready to go off, when you recognized your assaulter, your ex-boyfriend.
"What's wrong with you?" He asked. You huffed, trying so hard to keep composure.
"You hit me with a football, remember? Are you sure your head's okay?" You asked, with rolled eyes.
"Sorry. You always have that tough guy act, I thought you could take a hit." He retorted before walked away. You growled.
"You little-!" You began, but stopped as your ice pack slipped out of your hands. You grumbled. "Great. Like this day wasn't hard enough." Tears welled up in your eyes as you tried to fight the hurt feelings swelling up inside you. What were you ever even thinking when you started dating him? You knew he would hurt you, but you still took the plunge.
You should know this by now.
People don't change.
You reached down to grab your icepack from the floor, blinking back the tears. But before you could, a hand took it first.
"Hey Y/n. Is this yours?" You looked up to see a friendly smile and gray fluffy hair. Sugawara. One of the third years with your brother. You've hung out with Sugawara tons of times, so you always know who it is.
"Yeah. Thanks." You gave him a small smile. There are guys like Suga who always know what to say and do to brighten your day. No matter how crappy you feel inside, whenever he smiles at you, you can't help but to smile back.
There's no one like Suga.
That's what makes him all the more special.
"What happened?" He asked in a caring voice. He always knows when something's up with you or when you feel like crying. It's almost as if he has a detector about it or something.
Your smile started to falter.
You really don't want to talk about it.
"Can we not talk about it in the middle of the hallway?" You asked, glancing around. Everyone doesn't need to know your business.
"Sure." He grabbed your hand and pulled you inside the nearest closet with him. You raised an eyebrow. "Hey, we're technically not in the hallway anymore." You couldn't stop the laugh that escaped your lips, making his face warm up. You sighed with a smile.
"Alright, you win... I've... been getting into it with my ex-boyfriend. Ever since we ended things, he's been attacking me, indirectly. He hasn't put hands on me, but he had been hitting me with footballs and whatever he can get his hands on. That's why I've got this thing." You told him, lifting up the ice pack. "The football...it, um... y'know..." You trailed off, looking down, knowing Suga already understood.
"He hit you with a football?" He asked with surprised eyes.
"Well... yeah." You muttered out in an exasperated sigh.
"I'm so sorry, Y/n. Does it hurt a lot?"
"A little bit. Been through worse, I guess." He wrapped his arms around you in a gentle but tight embrace. He rested his chin on your shoulder.
His presence was just so comforting.
His hug was so warm, the sun would be jealous.
Whenever Suga's here...
it's almost if...

everything will actually be okay.
~~~
Two days in a row.
Football. Head. Smack.
"Can't come up with something more creative? I hate that guy." You hissed through your teeth. The nurse smiled at you, coming over with an ice pack in her hand. "Thanks." You took it out of her hand.
Why is she smiling?
You glanced down at your ice pack and your eyes widened.
Writing was on it. On it was a message.
Just for you.
Just for Y/n.
'I LOVE YOU Y/N'
-Sugawara
Your face burned red and your heartbeat raced. Suga liked you. No. He loved you.
You wanted to scream, but you swallowed it, trying not to lose composure.
The smile on your face widened.
Suga loved you. And you loved him.
He wrote his heart out on an ice pack?
That was pretty unique. There was no way you were going to go up there and just say 'i love you back'. You gotta do something rom-
Oh wait.
A goofy smile tugged on your lips.
You've got an idea.
~~~
"Suga! It's your turn to set!" Daichi called out for his gray haired friend.
Suga grabbed a ball from the bag. Before he could toss it in the air, he saw a black marking on it. Curious to know what it was, he flipped it over to see the writing on it.
Familiar writing.
A special someone's writing.
Love you too Suga
-Y/n
Suga smiled, his face turning a bright red. A small whistle caught his attention. He turned to the door to see the source. You. Leaning against the side, you grinned at the 3rd year. Nothing could falter your smile. Just like nothing could falter his.
~~~
Suga told Daichi that he'd walk you home for him. You had no complaints. Suga turned to the left path, leaving you confused.
Your house is to the right.
"Suga, this the wrong way." You told him, still following him.
"I know." He replied with a smile. The confusion in your voice thickened.
"Then why are we going the wrong way?" You asked.
"You'll see." You tilted your head. After a couple minutes of walking, the sun had already set and the sky turned dark. Suga had out a flashlight and you were holding his hand, right behind him.
If you weren't so tired, you would've enjoyed this alone time.
But you were tired.
So... no.
"Suga, it's night time! I wanna go home!" You complained, dragging your feet forward.
"We're here." Suga told you.
"About time!" You huffed as you slumped into the grass as he dropped your hand. "What are we doing out here anyway? It's dark and creepy. And- wait are you cutting off the flashlight?"
"Yep." And he did. You probably would've screamed. But it was night. It wasn't pitch black anymore. It was way better.
Above you, the sky was decorated in shining stars. They sparkled in the sky as if they were diamonds. The sky lit up into a beautiful midnight blue color. The sudden brightness felt like a wave of fresh air.
You were mesmerized.
"I was right."
"Huh? About what?"
"You look even more beautiful with the stars." Suga complimented, his cute eye-closed smile shining just as bright as the stars.
Your face turned pink.
"Really? You look the best wherever you go." You retorted, making him blush too.
No more holding back.
As your lips connected with his, your heart fluttered.
It felt like something you'd read out of a romance novel.
A love story that started with two strange items.
An ice pack and a ball.
