44 Father's Joy

POV Jack

“Mister Frost,” I hear a voice speaking to me. I jump down from the barrier of Arendelle castle. About one year ago my little daughter told me that she is engaged, six months ago her fiancé Arthur started believing in me.

“Are you nervous?” I asked from Arthur who was moving restlessly. “Yeah,” he whispered and I smiled. “Well, same happened to me once and I know how it does feel. So.. I guess that you’re excited of the day also?” Now Arthur started to smile, he had brown hair and grass green eyes which were shining from excitement. He loved Evie who means the world to me, every time I see her I see her mother’s eyes and beauty in her.

Arthur was a smart kid but he spoke to me too formally. “Mister Frost,” he started again and I sighed. There was no use to tell him to stop that. “Thank you for letting me marry your daughter,” he gave me his hand and I look at it. I throw my staff to my left hand and I grab his hand with my right one. “Keep Evie happy and safe for me,” I give him a smile and suddenly Arthur gave me a hug. I gasped from surprise before I patted his back.

“I will. She is my wish come true. Funny, smart and kind with a big heart,” Arthur chuckled. I hummed, “Kiddo, I think that you should hurry soon? Or you will be later from your wedding.” His eyes widened, “Am I late?” I nodded, “Not yet but soon. Better run?”

He took a sprint to castle. I followed him by flying next to him. “Hurry up,” I laughed and I noticed that he was too focused to get there in time to actually hear me. He rushed through the doors but started walking when the wedding visitors saw him.

I went on the other way, to a room where Evie was getting ready. “Daddy!” She said in excitement and run to hug me. I squeezed her tightly, “My little girl is getting married.” I petted her hair and she laughed a bit. “I am sorry that I cannot give you in the altar to Arthur,” I whispered.

“It is okay dad,” she said and kissed my cheek. Her bouquet had orchids that were hanging like a drop. I knew that she would be alright, however me on the other hand. My heart ached that couldn’t walk her down the aisle but it can’t be helped since almost every guest in there cannot see me. Evie looked beautiful in her simple A-line dress and her hair was left open with few orchid flowers.

Evie was just like her mother but her expressions, hair color and style were more from me. “See you after ceremony,” Evie said and inhaled deeply. I nodded to her and I left the room. I flew in the corridors and finally I was with Elsa on the front seats.

Anna was there with her husband Kristoff. Their son Leo was there with his wife Aileen who is daughter of Queen Merida of DunBroch. She is the first queen ever to take a divorce. Leo moved to Scotland short after their wedding and he really had to prove himself to Merida. Now they are getting along.

Elsa seemed being deep in her thoughts now, “Everything alright?” I smirked to Elsa who gave me a sly smirk, “You showed up.” She said simply and I pouted, “Of course! I wouldn’t miss it!” Elsa chuckled but went quiet when the music started.

We all stood up and watched when Evie was walking inside, her brother Matthew the King of Arendelle was walking her down the aisle. Evie was blushing and glancing at Arthur who was wearing the same red shade on his cheeks that Evie had. “Beautiful,” Elsa whispered and I took her hand in mine.

We watched how they said their vows and Matthew gave his blessing to newly-wed couple.  Evie would move to Arthur’s castle since he is the crown prince and a future king. The silence feeling in the ceremony was cut by a sound of crying baby.

I see how Halla, Matthew’s wife and Queen of Arendelle, is trying to calm the baby. She excuses and goes to backroom when a choir starts to sing for the honor of newly-weds. The muffled sound of crying baby is still hearing and Evie gives a look that it would be alright. I nod to her and I whisper to Elsa, “I will go to see my granddaughter.” Elsa touches my hand when I leave and gives me agreeing smile.

When I walk towards the backroom I see my parents watching the ceremony, they seem tired but they are smiling. My father is leaning to a walking stick and holding his chin up, tears in his eyes. When I continue my way I hear my father saying, “I wish that Jack could see this.” I glance over my shoulder and my heart aches when my mother takes my father’s hand and leans her head against his shoulder. “I am here,” I whisper but they can’t hear me.

Emma is sitting behind of them with her husband Rob. They had their children couple years after Evie and Matthew were born. Their daughter Lauren is now 16 and her brother Lucas is 17 years old. They have forgotten me already when they became teenagers. Emma gives me a look that tells me all, she is sorry. Sorry because my relatives are not believing in me, since I have to be alone one day.

The sound of crying baby comes to my mind again and I flash a fake smile to Emma. She smiles back which makes me feel a little better. I knock the backdoor with my staff and I enter. Halla is there and trying to comfort the crying baby.

“Can I?” I go to Halla who nods with relieve, I place my staff against the wall. “Thank you Jack,” she whispers and gives me her daughter. She is crying and her face is turning red. “Pretty thing, don’t cry,” I say while I lift her up. I place her over my left arm and I am humming a lullaby to her. Halla sits to a chair and sighs before she starts to watch me and smile.

I walk to a dressing mirror in the room. I see our reflection in the mirror, I feel warm to see myself holding my grandchild. I touch the mirror and it freezes, little Maya is just sobbing now and looking what I am doing. I hold my hand over the frosted surface and my hand moves as if I am trying to pull something out from it.

A shimmering figure comes off from the frost and it floats over my hand. I smile to Maya who is reaching towards the shining object, she loves the winter’s powers. I blow to that figure and now the small frost tooth fairy starts to fly around the room.

I hear Halla gasping, “Her first smile!” Now I look at Maya and she is actually smiling which causes me to chuckle. Now we heard a knock from the door and Matthew was there, “Hey.. They went to reception room already.” Matthew whispered.

“Oh, she isn’t sleeping?” Matthew said while he walked to me. My son started to laugh and he took Maya to his arms, “Daddy’s little baby girl is smiling for the first time!” Matthew said with baby talk and I rolled my eyes. “So.. now I know what I must have sounded like,” I chuckled and Matthew grinned to me. “Just wait for the day when she tells you that she is engaged,” I teased Matthew when I kicked my staff into air and grabbed it. I left Matthew staring after me with shock in his eyes. Now he knows the harsh reality of when you will have a daughter.

After the celebration I visited Elsa, now she doesn’t let me stay for the night. “Jack,” she whispers and gives me a hug but pushes me back when I try to kiss her cheek. I hum, “No more cheek kisses?” She nods and I sigh, “Fine, if you’re happy.” She sighs, “ I love you Jack but.. somehow it doesn’t feel right to make you kiss an older woman.”

I smirk to her, “Actually I am older than you.” She shakes her head, “You know what I mean.” Her eyes filled with sorrow and she petted my cheek. “Uh.. a snowball fight?” I whispered and tried to get my mind off from the aching feeling inside of my heart.

“Flying?” She says and smiles. I gulped, ”But you don’t like to fly that much?” Her hand points out, “It is a gorgeous night. I would love to fly with you.” I ruffled my hair and I saw her blushing, at least my charm is still biting to her. I chuckled, “Well.. then you will have to get really close to me.” She rolled her eyes and placed her hands over my shoulders and behind of my neck.

Her head was against my chest after I lifted her up. I walked to the window and jumped outside. “Do you still love the moon Jack?” She whispers to my ear. I look at her, “Don’t forget the star.” I said and kissed her forehead. This time she couldn’t dodge it. “Don’t,” she whispered and looked sad.

The moon.  I wonder if the Man in the Moon is actually watching? Why won’t he allow us to stay together?  I feel how Elsa is messing my hair, “Land down Frost!” She laughs and I blush. “Sorry, I was in my thoughts,” I whispered and she nodded while smiling.

That night we went ice skating, well.. no one else could have done that despite us or our son. We had powers of ice and snow which made it easy to freeze the pond. It was the same pond, which both ended and started my life.

I tucked Elsa under the sheets and wished her good night. She gave me a tight hug just when I was about to stand up straight. I fell down to bed with her and we both laughed. “Promise to see me every day?” She said  with her voice cracking. “I don’t promise, I swear it with all of my heart,” I took her hand in mine and placed it on my chest. Her eyes got teary. “Our love will last through times, I swear that too,” I petted her cheek and she closed her eyes and bit her lower lip. "Could you stay until I fall asleep?" She whispered.

"Sure," I whispered and sit on the bed. She closed her eyes and held my hand. When she fell asleep I gently placed her hand on her side and I sneaked out. I flew to mountains near Arendelle and I landed. The Moon was still bright.

"Manny," I started and leaned to my staff. "Are you listening?" I pleaded from the moon and felt miserable. No respond again, years and years of trying. I am starting to breath fast, misery and panic is getting to me. "PLEASE!" I yell and my voice echoes.

Still nothing.

Nothing.

Just the silence stays with me.

Tears run on my cheeks, "Make her immortal. Please?" I scream but I am alone. A cloud covers the moon and I feel furious. "Is it because you don't want two people with winter powers? FINE! Kill me! Take her to be the new guardian!" I am shouting to darkness.

I fell to my knees, "TAKE MY LIFE!" My hands are shaking when I fell to my hands on the snow. My tear drops are freezing before touching the snow. They are like frozen pearls sprinkled on top of the fresh snow. "S-she is much better person.. s-she is c-caring, fun, l-loving and .. and.. MAKE HER A GUARDIAN!" I scream again.

The moon is now shining again after the clouds moved.

I let out a yell from the pain that I am feeling inside. "I HATE YOU!" I yelled while blasting out a clear blue ice shot followed by a lightning strike. I fell to ground and feel exhausted. "S-she will die," I realize it now and I am crying to my hands. All the suppressed feelings are running through my fingers as tears.

I feel a wind behind of me. "Dad?" I wipe away my tears and glance over my shoulder. There is Evie, "I saw the blue lightning strike when I was going to close the curtains to my bedroom. What is wrong?" Evie whispers and walks towards me. I chuckle and try to fake, "N-nothing is wrong. You should be with Arthur."

Evie smiles and kneels next to me, "Dad. He can wait for a while. You should enjoy life and cheer up," she chuckled and gave me a hug. "I love you dad, we all love you always," Evie whispered and tightened her grip. I hugged her back, "Thank you sweetie."

"Maybe you should go to mum and spent the night there? That might be the reason why you feel bad?" Evie smiled and looked at me. "Yeah, that is it.. thanks," I laughed and she stood up. "Let's race to Arendelle?" Evie smirked and I nodded.

"Sounds like fun," I grinned and prepared myself. We both flied back to Arendelle and Evie went to her bedroom. I tried not to look but I saw how Arthur gave a kiss to her. It was still something that needed some getting used to.

"Jack?" Elsa gasped from surprise when the bedroom window opened. She woke up from the wind's sound. "Hey.. c-can I stay the night?" I whispered and she cocked her eyebrow. "I feel better around you," I gulped and she sighed. "Well.. come here Frosty, I won' bite," she grinned and patted the bed. I flew there and we stayed up talking the whole night and laughing. I missed her, I missed her so much. All I want is her.
