A Hero's Heart
"Hello, Izuku."
"Erm- uh, Hi." Izuku said nervously.
The women chuckled, "Izuku, you don't need to be nervous."
"Well, I uh- okay."
"Izuku, tell me what's on your mind." She smiled.
"I'm just not sure why I'm here." Izuku looked at his hands.
"A therapist is never a bad option, Izuku."
"I... I know." Izuku closed his eyes.
"Can you tell me what's bothering you?"
"A couple things I guess.... Mr. Aizawa's been acting weird. Kacchan... he was acting strange last night-"
"Izuku I mean about you." His therapist smiled softly.
"Oh..." he didn't continue.
"Just start anywhere." She encouraged.
"I don't know where to start." Izuku sighed.
The therapist pondered for a moment, "How about where it all began, when you first felt..." she struggled to find the right word.
"Hopeless?" Izuku filled in for her.
She looked at him sadly, "Yes, hopeless."
"I guess, it started when I was diagnosed quirkless..."
~
The next couple of days, Izuku begun to feel better and better.
Like a weight had been lifted off his chest, ever since Bakugo apologized, and he confessed to his therapist, he felt better.
The worries that he held deep within himself, were brought out into the open.
And he felt... happy.
He hadn't realized the chains around his heart were so tight until they begun to loosen.
They tightened again on Sunday night.
He woke up suddenly, his heart racing. His breathing was heavy, and he was sweating everywhere.
He couldn't breathe, Izuku clutched his chest and tried to calm himself. All he felt was panic.
"It's okay to let other people worry about you, Izuku."
"I know..."
"Izuku, look at me." The therapist said sternly, "it's okay to ask for help when you need it."
Izuku reached for his phone and shakily texted, "help."
He clicked send and waited.
They probably aren't awake, it's late. No, no, they probably won't come. It's okay just breathe, breathe.
Tears cascaded down his cheeks, and he jumped when he heard a knock at the door.
They actually...
"Midoriya, are you in there?"
Izuku stared at the door with wide eyes, he opened his mouth to speak, but he could barely breathe.
"We're coming in."
The door knob turned, and the door swung open. Iida, Uraraka and Todoroki rushed to him, once they saw the state he was in they comforted him.
The second Izuku saw his friends, and the worried looks on their faces, he found he was able to breathe again.
"I'm.. sorry." He rasped when he was finally able to talk.
"Shhh Deku, don't apologize." Uraraka said softly.
Izuku nodded, and finally gained full control over his breathing.
"What happened?" Iida asked worriedly.
"I... just had.. a terrible dream." Izuku said sadly.
"Do you want to talk about it?" Todoroki asked cautiously.
"It's okay to let other people worry about you, Izuku."
Izuku gulped and nodded.
Iida, Uraraka and Todoroki sat around him, comforting looks on their faces, patiently waiting from him to start.
Izuku couldn't look them in the eyes, so he settled for staring at the ground.
"There was this... pain in my chest." He started, "but not a type of psychical pain... I probably won't be able to explain it, but the type of pain you get when you're sad."
His friends nodded in understanding and Izuku continued.
"I felt that... but it was so much more intense," Izuku shuddered at the memory of it, "And I had a knife in my hand." He gulped, "I looked up and-" his voice hitched, "I saw dead bodies and- they-" he couldn't finish.
His shoulders hunched and he started crying again.
Uraraka rubbed his back, no one rushed him and waited for him to keep going.
"They were you guys, the bodies." He whispered, "and- and I suddenly looked at my hands again, and the knife was sill there, with a bottle of pills in the other hand."
Todoroki was terrified.
"All I could think about was the sadness and hopelessness, so I..."
"You don't need to continue." Todoroki said softly. He had a pretty good idea what was gonna happen next. There was obviously a few repercussions of the time travel quirk.
Izuku nodded.
He was suddenly engulfed in a hug, and his eyes widened.
Uraraka... she was crying too. He felt another pair of arms around him. Iida was crying too? For him?
Izuku hugged them back and cried loudly.
"Everything is okay."
Those simple words.
Izuku smiled, a genuine smile, because everything was okay.
He was with his friends.
And that made everything okay.
~
Tuesday rolled around, and Aizawa canceled class.
All he said was that "they needed a free day."
It confused Izuku to no end, but he was done trying to figure him out.
His friends suggested they go to the mall.
And for once, Izuku didn't feel nervous about going out.
He had so much fun at the mall, and no villain had interrupted them this time.
The memories of Sunday night faded away, and were replaced by happy ones.
His phone was missing though. He swore he could have put it on his desk, but he wasn't too worried about it.
He also saw a text on Todoroki's phone that confused him. He didn't want to invade his privacy, but the text read, "Yuu is safe."
Izuku wondered, who was Yuu?
That name sounded familiar.
It didn't matter and the thought eventually left Izuku's mind.
~
When Izuku returned to the dorms, he didn't expect this.
His classmates had thrown him a party.
"Surprise!"
"What the!?" Izuku squeaked as everyone yelled happily.
"Midoriya!" They said happily, engulfing him in a hug.
"I-It's not even my birthday!" He cried.
"It's not for your birthday, silly!" Hagakure laughed.
"Why then!?"
"Well, someone one told us that you were feeling a little sad lately," Mina spoke, "So we threw you a party!"
"Wh-"
"Because we all care about you, Deku." Uraraka smiled brightly.
"We wouldn't let any of our classmates be sad for even a second!" Kirishima cheered.
"Guys," Izuku's eyes filled with tears, "Thank you."
"Thank you." He repeated.
The chains around Izuku's heart disappeared, freeing him from the poison plaguing his mind.
Nothing would ever be like it was before.
Izuku wasn't being himself, no, he was being better.
He was better.
He has people who care about him, people who will help him.
Izuku smiled brightly, everything was okay.
He was going to be okay.
The End.
