03. Another Friend √
He, She, Freak
Chapter One– Another Friend
My tears stopped, but the girl still whispered, “Its okay, its okay,” to me soothingly.
“T-thank yo-you,” I stuttered with a soft hiccup.
“It's not a problem, I get panic attacks too. I hate it when I'm alone when it happens. Is this weird?” She asks me and let's go slightly and I shake my head.
“N-no, I really needed this, thanks,” She hugs me back as she was before and I rub my eyes.
“Do you happen to have a tissue?” I ask with a small laugh and she manages a smile for me and nods.
“lets get you off the floor, here,” The girl helped me up and I stumbled into her arms.
“Water, I need water,” I gulped down nothing, but air as a headache pounded on the walls of my skull.
“Hold on a second, I got you, just try to stand okay?” She asks and I nodded and hold onto the sinks as she retrieves a water bottle from her bag.
“Here, its open,” She says and I take it quickly and gulp it down thirstily, as relief went through my body.
I had finished the bottle but the pounding still accrued in my head.
“ I feel bad for asking.. Do you have dayQuil?” I ask her and she smiles.
“I actually do,” She ruffles through her bag before giving a little, “ah-ha” and handing me a new package of tissues.
I blew my nose, happy to be able to breath out of my nose again.
“Thanks, what's you name?” I asked the girl in front of me.
I looked into her brown eyes that resembled the trees I had once wanted to climb.
“Ruby, Ruby Towns, you?” She asks with a small smile and I gave a weak one back.
“Dan Carvorn,” I replied as she handed me a bottle of Advil.
“I really like that name, oh and turns out I have Advil instead.” She apologizes and I shrug.
“Thats okay, I don't really mind, its not like there's a difference, ” I poured two out and slipped them in my mouth. I poured the sink water into my hands and gulped the pills down.
I cracked my neck and looked at my reflection. Puffy, red eyes and a tear streaked face met my vision.
“Ugh, I look and feel terrible, Ruby, would you mind if you'd ditch school with me? I just don't feel like going into class and meeting my friends,” I elaborated for her and her eyebrow raised.
“Heck yeah, let's do this!” She pumped her fist in the air and I raised an eyebrow at her.
“Really? Heck?” I asked and she shrugged.
“I don't like when people cuss,” The smile in her eyes wavered and I immediately changed the subject.
“Oh, I won't cuss okay, you wanna go to Milkshake Tower or something?” I asked and she nodded. I had a feeling she loved sugar, and I had the slightest feeling that I shouldn't give her it. But then again she had looked so happy when I mentioned it..

I opened the door and a bell sounded, and a blonde haired guy with soft silver eyes greeted us with a smile at the counter.
“What can I get for you two?” He asked and I looked up at the menu, it was so clean I could see my reflection, my puffy eyes were back to their original look, and I smiled when I saw exactly which one I thought would taste amazing.
“Triple Strawberry Blast, just put the cherry to the side for me, and Ruby?” I asked and she was scanning the menu.
“Hmm... Double Frosted Chocolate, can you add two cherries on mine for me?” She asked and he nodded a smile on his lips as he wrote down what she had said.
“Okay so, one Triple Strawberry Blast, no cherries. And One Double Frosted Chocolate, two cherries. Correct?” He asked nervousness secretly laced in his words.
“Yep, that is it, thank you,” Ruby smiled at him sweetly before we started over to a booth.
We headed over to a booth and sat in an awkward silence.
“Why were you crying?” She asked, worry on her face, but I didn't want to talk about it. I wanted to forget that moment had ever happened.
“I really don't want to talk about it, I'm sorry,” I apologized and she shook her head.
“Don't be, it must've been personal I get it,” She replied rubbing her arms nervously.
“I don't think you would, I panicked over nothing,” I laughed bitterly and Ruby put her hand on my arm.
“Saying that won't make the moment disappear Dan, maybe if you talked about you'd feel-”
“Please Ruby, I really don't feel like it, can we just talk about something else? ” I asked her and she sighed, knowing she wouldn't get the information from me.
“Okay, well.. I have no idea who you are so.. What's your favorite color?” Ruby asked and I shrugged at her unoriginal question.
“Blue, gray, soft colors I guess you could say, red and black seem to harsh to me,” I replied to her and she nodded.
“Welp, I actually am obsessed with the two colors you hate,” Ruby smiled and I laughed, I could tell we'd be opposites from all her happiness, but those two colors gave me another feel towards her.
“Okay my turn... What's your favorite saying from a book?” I asked and she tapped her chin as if pretending to think.
“Um... I don't know, I haven't read books in awhile,”She laughed guiltily and I smiled.
“‘After all this time? Always’ Harry Potter and The Deathly Hollows,” I stated proudly and Ruby laughed.
“What in the odds, Harry Potter is one of my favorite movie and book series!” Ruby squeals and I laugh.
My mood changed dramatically, I wonder, how the hell I was so lucky to meet two people who barely knew me, but already felt the need to befriend me?

How could he do this to me? He thought I couldn't handle my own fights, because I was a girl in his eyes.
I whipped my eyes and ran into my home, my mother started to talk, but I ran up stairs. I locked my door, stripped from my clothes and curled up in my blankets.
