Chapter One: Unwanted Attention

Kirk had a rough night, and by rough he meant the worst fucking night a person could have. He tossed and turned all night, fumbling with his fingers as the cold sweats hit him. He had this nightmare and insomnia problem and had his release date moved to this morning from the medical bay over on the east dock. "How are you feeling? Better?" Hadely asks, as Kirk groans to sit up holding his head in his hands, "Better I guess.. Who's picking me up?" Kirk asks, forcing himself to stand, "I was told that Commander Spock would escort you back." Hadley responds, typing something in his computer. "Spock?? Could we get someone else?" Kirk suggests in a desperate type tone, "I mean he's already-" Hadley was interrupted by Spock opening the door and walking inside, his hands cupped behind his back, even in a stressful situation he never seemed to lower how professional he looked. "Hello Captain, are you ready to go?" Spock asks his usual monotone voice, "Couldn't you have gotten someone like Hikura to pick me up?" Kirk strained to push the words from his mouth, he felt as if saying anything insulting to Spock was a personal sin. "I'm sorry sir, Hikura and the rest of the crew was very adamant on me being the one to bring you back." Spock explained as his eyes stayed fixated on Kirk, Kirk had always thought of himself as a good independent space captain and had never set himself to a lower standard, but him being gone had just made him feel as if he really was lower than what he had thought. "I suppose the treatment went fairly well?" Spock asks as his gaze finally turns to Hadely, Hadely smiles and gives a small nod, as if he didn't want to explain what was really going on during the treatment. "That's all? That's quite strange for you to do. You're usually so proud of your work, Hadely." Spock questions, shifting his gaze back and forth between the two men. Kirk felt his stomach twist from the newfound awkwardness and tension that filled the room, it was a slow suffocating fog for him. "Well, he just had a few difficulties going through the procedures.." Hardley mutters, hoping that he wouldn't be heard, but of course, those pointy, green tipped ears heard every word. "Really? What kind of difficulties?" Spock asks as he raises his eyebrow at the doctor, "Well, the first night was extremely rough on him, he was tossing and turning, extreme cold sweats, and even screaming. Though I feel like he has gotten past this well and can resume his position." Hadley ends with a smile. Spock returns his smile with a small fake one, they always said it was the thought that counts the most anyways. Spock then assured Kirk out of the room, seeming to want to leave quickly, Kirk shrugged and just complied to his silent demands. Walking down the hallway of his ship has never been so awkward for him, "The crew has been waiting for you-" Spock started but was stopped by a light pat on his shoulder followed by a small laugh, "Yes, I know what they've been missing." Kirk responds with the small laugh, "I don't think I understand what you mean." Spock says, choosing not to look at Kirk, "That they have a real captain to run the ship." Kirk gloats as he smacks Spock's shoulder once again. When people said it was going to be a difficult task to make these two be okay in close quarters with each other, they really meant it. Spock and Kirk had hated each other ever since they first met, though their hatred for each other was 'odd'. Kirk and Spock would help each other and talk, Spock would even do small favored tasks of Kirk, though he really didn't enjoy it. "Of course, sir." Spock responds, nearing the main dock, Kirk had grown a sudden desperation that surprised Spock by it's arrival. Kirk nudges Spock's arm with his elbow, constricting fibers rubbing against the other causing a displeasing noise, "Grab my arm, Spock." Being fully aware of Kirk's intentions, Spock denied the demand. The pleading look in his eyes had pulled at something deep from within Spock, though he wasn't sure what it was, but sure as hell knew who the trigger was." Spock sighed deeply as he wrapped his hand around the captain's arm, it stunned him to feel how thin his arm was, the fiber rubbing against his hand, making the rough itching sensation. 'Tell the others I'd like to be alone' The voice was clear in his head, no words needing to be spoken, just merely a loud thought. Spock nodded as they finally entered the main deck, Kirk forced his arm away from Spock and started retreating to a room when he was stopped by Hikura, "Oh no no, you guys need to have a better friendship." His deep voice sent shivers down Kirk's spine, "A friendship? Please. This is merely an unwanted partnership." Spock scoffed as he turned his back to Kirk, "A partnership doesn't beat a friendship." Hikura responds pushing them into a room and locking it from the outside. "Oh god no..."
