He's Oblivion
I am already telling this is inspired from something you all must have read about. Do enjoy :)
He was on the stretcher, but was able to hear things well. He didn't want to live anymore, because he had nothing more to do with his life.
What more could have happen?
He lost his whole family in the accident, only he was left alive. There were hundreds of people he knew, wishing for his death.
And no one to be with him.
All he wanted were some good days with his family, a cute little vacation like every year. Away from all chats about his future; marriage exactly.
Such happy time he was having with his family. A beautiful place, a beautiful family, a beautiful life.
But it wasn't worth it.
Just one word, and his life turned upside down.
Landslide
And he knew well, he wasn't the only one who suffered it. He heard many cries before was passed by the snow. The beautiful Shimla was just too ugly to him now.
All his mistakes he did came into his mind. He threw his head back as a single tear left. And he consoled himself with "boys don't cry" stuff.
He looked all over, one more patient was lying there, infront of him and towards the window. He couldn't see clearly who it was as the curtain was blocking the view. And he didn't care too.
His manager came running inside, and gasped at the sight of his boss lying on the bed like he never imagined.
"Boss, how are you feeling?" The manager asked, guessing he was in no mood to respond.
He just looked at the person infront of him. He lost his family and now this man thinks he is ok? Absolutely not. He didn't reply at all, but turned his head to the opposite side.
The manager came infront of him again, and just looked blankly at him.
"Go away" He said with a cracked voice, he hasn't said a word in the past two days.
"I thought he can't speak" he heard someone say, and it turned out to be the patient infront.
"What will the world say? The great Vansh Rai Singhania lost the battle of life so easily?" The manager tried to...do something.
"You are fired Angre. Now leave." He said having no interest in the motivational idiotic things.
Angre just looked at him and sighed. Nothing else to do, he left him alone and went away.
"You should speak more, Vansh." The patient infront told him.
"Don't talk to me." He said having no interest.
"Like that thing trending of social media?" She said and grinned.
Vansh gave an irritated expression and decided to look somewhere else. He had nothing to see, the window was at her side.
"Let me tell you what I see." She said.
"No thanks." He replied anxiously.
"No not accepted. I am Riddhima and I will tell you what I see that's it." She scoffed and Vansh sighed.
"You know, there is this.. beautiful park with people of every age group. Elders, youngsters, couples, kids, families and all." Riddhima said.
Vansh even though, had denied to listen to her was now listening. He tried to look but the curtain was totally blocking the view of her and the window too.
"And?" He asked. Riddhima chuckled.
"And? Umm.. let me see. The kids are playing on the swings, the couples are sitting on the bench talking and elders are too walking and doing laughing exercises. It's a so colorfull! The warmth of sunlight in winter must be feeling so good." Riddhima said.
Vansh sighed as he realised what he was asking for. He was still on a stretcher, with one of his leg operated and many cuts all over.
"By the way what happened to you?" Riddhima asked from the other sighed.
"Landslide." Vansh replied.
"What type of disease is this?" Riddhima asked and he snickered.
"I got struck in a landslide and my leg is operated." He said quite loudly.
"That's so mean. You shouldn't shout." Riddhima said.
"So stop bothering me" Vansh said and closed his eyes.
"As you wish." Riddhima replied.
2 hours of utter silence prevailed, Vansh had nothing to do. He had already overslept due to heavy medication. He heard noises from outside, some people rushing, ward boys and nurses asking for something to each other, students running to their respective duties and much more.
And a doctor entered the room.
"Vansh? Vansh Rai Singhania?" She asked looking at him and he nodded.
"Um..Su..Suhana or Sakshi?" Vansh looked at her and she giggled at his confusion.
They met at school..maybe?
"Suhani!" She corrected him "I wish I could say good to see you. How do you feel now.?" Suhani asked.
"Yeah..right..nothing." Vansh's reply made her scrunch her eyebrows.
"Do you feel your leg?" Suhani asked and he sighed, not replying.
"If you will not tell me how will I help you." Suhani said with a frown.
"I don't want help." He said, a little rudely.
"Then how will you stand again?" Riddhima asked from that side.
"I have fallen so deep that standing won't help. And you said you won't talk to me." Vansh replied.
"That was rude. You feel your leg or not?" Suhani repeated her question.
Vansh again didn't reply, Suhani sighed and left.
"Even if you don't want to live, you should tell whatever it is, you will be fine then you can go and die." Riddhima scolded him.
"Loo-"
"You don't even know how many people want to live, but is it there wish to die? Life is precious. There is no way that no one is left to care for you. You have that man who came to see you! You can live for yourself! You can-" Riddhima started to cough in between.
Vansh tried to peek through the curtain but couldn't see anything. He tried to get off the bed as she didn't stop coughing and heard the glass breaking.
One of the nurses rushed inside, and went towards her to help her and murmured something to which she hummed.
"You good?" Vansh asked.
"Why? You want to hear more?" Riddhima said angrily.
"No thanks." Vansh said.
"Any friends?" Riddhima asked, Vansh could feel her smiling.
"Many." He said.
"And don't you think they care for you?" Riddhima asked.
"They do." Vansh replied with a small smile, remembering old times.
"Live for them. You won't feel nice if any of your friends.. at last you still have feelings." Riddhima said.
"Why are you here? And also no one came to see you." Vansh said and Riddhima chuckled.
"I have no one. I am an orphan. Me and my friend met with an accident." Riddhima told him.
"Boss" Angre peeked from the door of the room, and slowly entered inside.
"Angre...come" Vansh said and Angre was a little shocked by behaviour in his change...sorry...change in behaviour.
"Mr. Maan is coming to see you, he will be here in an hour." Angre informed him very slowly taking a seat near him.
"Ac..wo..bo..is..was" Angre stuttered very much.
"Say clearly." Vansh said.
"Vansh!" A man entered suddenly and hugged Vansh for a long time, his wife also came and sat in the place of Angre with a sad smile.
"I am so sorry brother." He said sitting on the bed itself.
"It's fate. But Angre told me you are comming in an hour?" Vansh asked.
"After knowing about your accident Raj flew his car in air to get us here." His wife replied and Raj chuckled along with Vansh.
"I swear... I was so stressed.. because I know this idiot would be throwing tantrums and not taking care of himself." Raj said.
Vansh hit his arm and Raj did that back, Vansh winced making Raj scared but he smiled later making all grin.
All of a sudden, a lot of sirens started ringing and the voice was coming from the window. Raj went towards it but stopped noticing someone the other side of the curtain.
" 5-6 Ambulances have came with a lot of patients, maybe some fight happened or something within a family." Riddhima said.
"You said there was a park." Vansh said and raised his brows..
"Yeah but there is a way of entrance also..to.. towards the hospital." Riddhima replied.
1 week later
All went nice in the following time, Vansh was back to normal; talking and responding to everyone. All thanked Riddhima for her preachings and sermons everyday which maybe motivated him a little.
But one thing was never away, the curtain in between.
How badly he wanted to see her, talk to her, touch her. But it would only be possible when one of them would be able to walk and come to the other by themselves.
Vansh noticed movements on the bed and smiled.
"Good morning Riddhima" he chirped.
"Good morning Vansh" Riddhima replied lazily.
"Latest view?" Vansh asked and Riddhima chuckled.
Latest view, was the latest thing Riddhima saw happening in the park, she used to tell him all the scenario and both would laugh and little children's cute antics.
"It's empty." Riddhima replied.
"Huh?" Vansh confirmed what he heard.
"No kids, no couples, no nothing. It's empty." Riddhima said.
"But how is it possible?" Vansh asked.
And before she could reply, Suhani entered inside with a smile.
"Good news" Suhani said.
"Congratulations" Vansh said and Riddhima laughed.
"Idiot! Good news for you. You are going home tomorrow." Suhani said and he just went with a plain 'oh'.
"Suh dry reaction?" Suhani asked..and spoke herself not letting him speak. "You will be on wheelchair for a week or two with physiotherapy and will walk soon. Now I am getting late ok bye."
"Not happy? Why?" Riddhima asked.
"Someone else will come here..you will be alone then." Vansh said and she sighed.
"So what? I am also leaving tomorrow." Riddhima chirped.
"Really! We can meet then. Whenever you say." Vansh said seeing a ray of hope.
"No. Never. You live your life. No need to be with me." She said slowly.
Vansh frowned, he didn't expect that.
"First no latest view then your bad mood. But you know what? You are beautiful." Vansh said.
"What the hell how did you see me?" Riddhima nearly shouted.
"I meant as a person! You are a good motivational speaker." Vansh said with a grin..
"Put anyone in a situation of life and death and the person will become a motivational speaker." Riddhima said nodding her head slowly in no.
"I want to see you." Vansh said.
"Don't worry you will." Riddhima replied.
The following night, Vansh felt something while he was sleeping. He opened his eyes a little to see a beautiful woman, staring at him with a smile.
"Hi Vansh..Bye Vansh." She said and chuckled.
Vansh smiled, still sleepy and just a whisper left his mouth. "Riddhima.."
Vansh woke up with a jerk as he heard much people talking or instructing something. He sat on his bed trying to look what was happening, it was Riddhima's side. Maybe she was going back.
The curtain was removed, Vansh smiled to look at her and raised his hand to wage her, but to his daze, she had closed his eyes.
"Suhani what happened to her?" Vansh asked as his heartbeat raced more and more.
"She's dead." Suhani half sighed half replied.
"What!?" Vansh literally shouted, and looked at her body. She had a satisfactory smile on her face.
How selfish she is.. how can she leave him like that? How can she mock him with that smile saying 'I died but you couldn't' .
Tears escaped his eyes at the thought, that she took his place.
"But she was leaving home today? Then what happened all of a sudden?" Vansh was totally anxious.
"Vansh relax.. she was a cancer patient who had met an accident." Suhani said rubbing his back.
He had enough of all the shocks, he had nothing to see and he looked towards the window. He was too shock to say anything.
Where was the view she told him? Where was the park? Where were the children? All he could see was just a plain wall, and some other rooms with patients.
What had she done to him?
"She..she told me there was a park." Vansh said pointing towards the window as he sobbed more.
"Vansh what are you saying..she was blind and that's why her parents abandoned her." Suhani said "she has been fighting since she was a teen"
What could he anything else than sobbing? Vansh cried, the more and the last time. He fell off the bed crying as he saw her body being moved out from the room..out of her life.
He was Oblivion, all the time.
Oblivion means a state when you don't know what is happening around you.
Ohk I am weeping.
