Aiden’s POV

‘’Aid wake up.’’ Ivy’s voice filled my ears.

I shook my head and reached for the coldness in front of me hoping to find my mate; My warmth, My love.

Nothing.

‘’Why?’’

‘’We need to go. Seb’s getting anxious.’’ Sighing, I raised my head and slowly got up looking at Seb being smothered by Ivy.

‘’ Okay. Where’s Paige?’’

‘’Oh. I’m not sure. She woke me up to tell me she’ll be back soon so I figured she went to go do her business.’’ She coughed and gathered up all her ingredients for potions and whatever else she had with her.

‘’Paige!’’ I called out walking around the small clearing we had found the night before.

‘’Paige! We’re leaving. Get your butt out here before we send Seb in to find you.’’

‘’Jesus Ivy. She just lost her parents and you’re yelling at her?’’ I shook my head and took Seb from her arms to stop his squirming.

‘’I still don’t trust her. Something’s off.’’ Seb nodded in agreement with Ivy.

A twig snapping sounded behind us before Paige jumped out and screamed ‘’Boo!’’ I almost died and Ivy looked ready to show her who not to mess with.

‘’You don’t do that you stupid girl! We have to be quiet and we’re all paranoid and you go and do that!? What is your problem!?’’ She screamed at the little girl.

‘’I-I’m sorry.’’ Paige’s eyes watered up and I rushed over to her as she let her tears flow onto my jacket.

‘’Don’t be so cruel Ivy!’’ I yelled before whispering sweet nothings into Paige’s ear to get her to slowly calm down.

‘’Ai-Aiden I’m sorry. I di-didn’t mean t-to scare you’’

‘’It’s okay Paige. Come on let head this way. Jayce told me he’s in the west.’’ I smiled at her until my arm was grabbed by Ivy.

‘’What are you thinking Aiden!? We just escaped from the West. We were locked up there. Don’t you understand what going there could do!?’’

‘’My mate is there Ivy. I’m going to him if that means getting locked up there again just to see his face in anything but a dream. I’ll risk it all.’’

‘’ You stupid stupid boy! We need to keep going to the East. Jayce will meet us there.’’ She yelled while dragging my now sore arm along with her towards the rising sun.

‘’No! I’ve followed you for long enough and where has it gotten me!?’’ I screamed and motioned to the blood covering my clothes.

‘’What has it gotten you!? I’ve given you everything trying to get you to your mate! Everything! I’ve kept you safe and alive for your family and mate! ‘’ Her voice screeched through the trees sending the little birds high into the heavens of flight.

‘’ At what price? Paige has no family. You have no family.’’

‘’I’d rather have no family and have you safe then you to die for your own foolish mistakes.’’ Growling as animalistically as she could she dragged my body with her, a growling Seb following her.

‘’ You’d gladly stand by and watch your family die for my sake? You’d kill your life partner to see me safe? You’d abandon everything! Everything for me when I don’t want it!? I want my mate and nothing, nothing will stop me from having him back.’’ My body shook and shuddered without my command as my eyes hazed over and black smoke slowly made its way around my body.

I heard Seb’s whimpers as I was engulfed by the smoke and Ivy snatched her hand back so quickly at the feeling of my skin turning ice cold. I knew what I was doing, I knew what this meant.

The Angel Of Death inside me was calling. My wolf howled as my angel growled a demonically low tone of hate. I could feel the wrath wafting off me as Seb changed to his true form at the call of the Angel.

‘’Master.’’ His head bowed low to the ground while Ivy and Paige stood back scared and awe struck.

I looked down at myself floating. Why was I floating? My skin was paler than usual and I could see ripples of black smoke and material slowly detach from my skin and whirl around my body.

‘’Aid. Calm down.’’ Ivana reached for me but a blood curdling scream racked through my system and filled the air, the force so strong it physically pushed Ivy, Paige and whatever other plant or life form was around us, away from me.

‘’ I will go find my mate. You won’t try to stop me. You hear me?’’ A voice that wasn’t mine sounded through my throat.

‘’Aiden fight it!’’ Ivana screamed but it fell on my own deaf ears.

The earth shook beneath them, every tree moved, every animal cried but Ivana and Paige didn’t. I didn’t like it. No. He didn’t like it.

‘’ Did you not hear me!?’’ the same voice coursed through, dripping with the venom of hate, displeasure, distaste and dominance.

‘’Seb stop him.’’ she whispered to Seb but only for him to lift his head and look for my approval.

‘’Cerberus. We’re leaving.’’ My head nodded to Seb and my body slowly fell the few feet back to the ground and with a simple turn of my back and the disappearance of all the things my Angel called forth, Seb and I were off shortly followed by Paige but not Ivana.

Could I be sorry?

No.

I may not have said those things directly but it was exactly what I was feeling. I was sick of playing games, sick of not having my mate, sick of Ivana telling me what to do, sick of death, of hate, of pain, of remorse. But what I was most sick of was what I was becoming.

Could my mate truly love what my Angel was turning me into? Would he still be able to bear the sight of what the fates have left him if I was to become a monster? Darkness, Death, Pain; an Angel of Death.

‘’Have you ever wondered why they are called the Angel of death?’’

I remembered the conversation I had with the Northern Tribe’s elder when she told me what I was.

‘’ You aren’t just a bringer of darkness and death’’

‘’ You are a beautiful part of life’’

‘’ You have a strong caring mate for you out there and he’s looking for you right now. He will be your shoulder to cry on, your helping hand when your hands are full, your lover, your best friend. He will be the one that will be there for you left when no one else will be there.’’

I looked over to my shoulder to see two foxes slowly returning to their pups in a hidden den. How lovely it would be to finally be with my mate like that.

‘’ I’ll come get you. I promise!’’ 

Jayce’s words rung through my head from one of the few nights trapped in Ezra’s cave. He promised me something and I wasn’t ready to let that promise go.

Shaking my head I pat Seb’s large leg giving him a silent message to change back and he did, no questions asked.

‘’Aiden.Where are we going?’’ Paige grabbed my hand and held it firmly in hers as we walked.

‘’We’re going to get my mate.’’ I smiled as we walked further to the Western Kingdom.

Ivana's POV

‘’It wasn’t him.’’ I shook my head.

Slowly gathering all my equipment and packing up finally I started to walk North West of where we spent the night.

‘I won’t leave him with that girl.’  I groaned to myself as I trudged up rocks and through the trees.

We weren’t too far out of the Northern Kingdom so it was still all mountain and hills from here on. The forest was now full of life again from Aiden’s Angel taking over. It was quite the sight. His eyes had turned pitch black unlike the bright blue in the cave and the smoke that rolled off his body honestly scared me a little as if it would engulf anything and everything it touched. I don’t think he understood just how much power he had.

Hours had now passed of walking through the density of the forest. The trees looked like they were swaying and laughing along with the birds in them. The squirrels and tree dwellers seemed to be watching me, mocking me. As if I didn’t already know this was a long shot of getting Aiden to find the safe way of finding his mate.

‘’Aiden!’’ I called trying to get any response from anyone at all.

I knew heading North West would possibly give me a better chance of cutting him off than following him straight North because he didn’t know there were big cliffs out West so he would eventually head North again soon whether he liked it or not.

‘’Aiden!’’ I all but screamed this time.

The shrubs and twigs to my left were flattened making me freeze in mid step.

Growl

A wolf’s growl was carried through the wind and straight into my body sending shudders down my spine. I slowly turned my feet to the left, my body following the direction to see a large tan wolf’s paws protrude from the shrubbery followed by the rest of his body lowered to the ground in an attacking position.

‘’ Nice doggy.’’ I put out my hands and slowly backed up.

The growling only got worse as an identical wolf stepped out behind him to the right and a black one to the left. I was done for.

Slowly reaching for my satchel of salts I heard a scream and then I was suddenly thrown into someone’s chest, their arms wrapped around my neck. I looked up to see the wolves head raised but not free of threatening except in the black one which slowly turned back into his naked human form.

‘’Ivana.’’ Jayce gaped at me and went to move forward to stop the assault of the person wrapping themselves around me now sobbing.

‘’Avery.My baby brother.’’ The sob became clear and my world stopped.

‘’Helena.’’

Can I bet that you guys weren’t expecting that little thing at the end!?

I will be updating more frequently now seeing as I have officially decided to enter the 2013 Watty Awards! I had word that the deadline is October 31 so I’m determined to have my story finished by then. Make sure you guys support me!!
