Ch.24
Narrator POV
Christina walked into the school after being dropped off by Cuphead. She wanted to be driven that day because she feared the bus now. Except she didn't tell her dad that. As she walked inside she made her way down the hall to outside on the other side where the playground was. She went over to her favorite tree next to the slide as she sat in the small opening in the roots she fit perfectly in. Once settled she dug in her purple backpack pulling out her favorite book. It didn't have words like a normal one, but it contained pictures of her mom and dad that they had been saving. Christina loved to look at them and wonder what they had experienced getting lost in an imaginative world. In the middle of it someone had yanked the book from her hands. She looked up seeing them. Melinda, Cara, and Kenni. Melinda who had grabbed her book smirked down at her. Christina stood up trying to be brave.
"G-give that back Melinda." Christina said as stern as she could but she knew she wasn't fooling them. They laughed at her.
"Or what?" Cara asked as Christina whimpered.
"You gonna tell your gay daddies?" Kenni laughed hands on his hips. Christina could feel tears building in her eyes as they all started laughing again while Melinda threw the book behind her into a muddy puddle. Christina's eyes widened as she ran to it to pull it out. As she did Cara shoved her into the puddle as Christina yelped feeling the mud cover her chest and face. She sat up grabbing the book holding it protectively to her chest. The three gave each other high fives.
"Well we had our fun let's go. You better not tell or we'll do worse you queer."
Christina winced at the name. Each time they called her something it stung more each time. She stood up wiping her hands as she grabbed her backpack. She looked out for the counselor as she snuck her way inside the school. She proceeded to race to the bathrooms and lock herself in a stall. Remembering when she was shoved into murky water before and didn't bring any spare clothes was a close call. She merely explained to the counselor and her parents she just got clumsy and fell. To her relief they believed her. Besides the young one did have a history of getting messy from being so clumsy. Removing the dirty clothes she changed into the ones she had brought. Once that was done she went to the sink washing off any visible dirt. Afterwards she did her best cleaning the book. The pages were laminated so the mud thankfully came off easily. Putting away the book and dirty clothes she made her way out the bathroom to her class. The bell had already rung so she didn't bother to go outside to line up. If she did it'd be likely those three would target her again anyways. Her head hung down as she walked to her seat after putting away her stuff. The teacher seemed to have went out to get the other students so it was just her. She laid her head down onto the desk waiting for the others to come. As she did she could only picture all the current events that went on between her and the bullies keeping her from catching a mental break.
Her head looked up hearing all the kids scurry in to get to the desks for class. The bullies came in and looked at her causing her to look the opposite way. The three kids smirked knowing she didn't say anything again. The brats enjoyed the control they had on her. It was a power they wanted to keep. Their hatred for her being from gay men just made that control more sever, but this wasn't Christina's fault. Those kids were raised to not approve of those kinds of people. That they were sinners in the eyes of God. Meaning they were all from religious families. Very religious.
The teacher started teaching math which was Christina's favorite. Following the lesson came the assignment which she finished before everyone else. The clearing of a throat caught her attention as she looked over to the bullies. They gestured at her as she looked down at her hard work. She neatly folded it in half as she walked over to their table. She secretly tossed it by their book as she pretended to be getting a drink from the fountain that was behind their table. But once she began walking back she felt a sharp pain in her back that made her jump and have to bite her tongue to hold in a scream. She turned around looking back and saw that Kenni had basically stabbed her back with a pencil. He had a smirk as he waved the pencil in his fingers. Christina whimpered feeling a few tears that had fallen. She quickly wiped them and went back to her seat. She sat down looking at the table in anger, frustration, sadness, and wondering why this was happening to her..
