Chapter 5. Who could it be...?

Sonia had (since her Bookkeeping course in 2006) invested in a tower PC*, so she plugged it in via the HDMI cable to the television in her lounge room.
(*PC.. as in Personal Computer)
Once it had fired up, downloaded all its updates and rebooted itself, Sonia had managed to make a list of things she needed to narrow down.
Utilising her favorite internet browser, Google Chrome, Sonia opened up a tab to everybodies all time favorite search engine - Google, and typed in "Phone Possession" and then hit the "I'm Feeling Lucky" Button.
It took me to a site that documented a case of an actual Possessed Phone.
A demon had taken it over, it order to drive it's owner crazy, so that they would try and kill themselves, then, on the brink of death, the demon could take over the body as the human soul vacated.
Luckily (or unluckily...?) Enough, the *phones owners suicide attempt was unsuccessful. They were left in a vegetative state and a paraplegic for life. They did, however, manage to destroy the phone with their suicide attempt.

This entire idea made Sonia want to cry.
Imagine feeling so tortured and so isolated, by the very device you carry in your pocket, that you word rather die than either ask for help or deal with it.

The morose change in mood made Sonia want to take a break. So she went into her kitchen and filled the electric kettle, and switched it on - fully intending to make a cup of chamomile tea, when she caught sight of her mobile, ringing on the bench.
It was an unknown number. Sonia figured if it was important, they would leave a voicemail, and she could call them back.

Once Sonia had her cup of tea, she sat at the island bench where her phone was, and contemplated picking it up.

She thought to herself, "Best case scenario, a voicemail from a debt collector or a wrong number and nothing added to my story... meaning no messages from Peter. Worst case scenario..." her mind paused and her body shuddered.
"Let's not think about that portion of things." Sonia said out loud without even realising.

Then, her phone started to ring again.
Private number.

Sonia's hand reached for the phone, but something in her, call it her 'Spidey Sense' or whatever, but Sonia withdrew her hand, and took a sip of her tea instead.

Once she got to the end of her cup of tea, Sonia made the active choice to keep researching.

Going back to Google Chrome, Sonia once again typed in Phone Possession, but instead of the "I'm Feeling Lucky" button, I hit search.
This bought up only two thousand, three hundred and eighty seven results.

Compared to Google's usual One Billion plus results for a search, this was amazing.

Sonia started at link one, and worked her way through the results.

After an hour or so of clicking, reading and either bookmarking the slightly credible, and discarding the unbelievable, or non-provable, Sonia's phone began to beep and then ring.

"I knew it was too good to be true!" Sonia said to herself as she reached for her phone.
Unknown Number.

Something inside Sonia told her to answer the phone.
She picked it up with a trembling hand, swiped right on the green "call accept" icon, and lifted the phone to her ear.

"H-H-hello?" Sonia managed to stutter out.

"WHYHAVEYOUBEENIGNORINGME? I'VEBEENWAITINGFORYOUTOCHECKYOURMESSAGESANDCALLMEBACK! ARE. YOU. OK???"
A loud, nasty, derogatory voice came through the mobile phone speaker.

"Wh-wh-who is th-th-this?" again, Sonia stuttered her question at the phones in-built microphone.

"How don't you know?" The voice questioned,  semi-nicely. "DO. YOU. HAVE. ANOTHER. BOYFRIEND?" It demanded, again sounding nasty.

"N-n-no. I'm not dating anyone, for your information!" Sonia started getting angry. "Who is this? Who has tampered with my phone? Mike? Is that you? I swear I with castrate you! Karen? I'm not scared to cunt-punt you, you bìtch! Cut. It. OUT!" Sonia screamed down the phone before hanging up.

Sonia went back to her research with a fury.
"Something here has to explain what I'm going through!" Sonia said out loud to herself frustratedly.

She clicked the one hundred and twenty-sixth link on page eight of the results, and came face to face with some of the most haunting images of her life... and a story that sounded Just. Like. Hers.

And all these people?
Were dead.

Sonia Fainted.

Authors Note
Unlike some authors, I try incredibly hard to not post A/N as chapters.
I think I did one in the entire of "Old Mob Money" and that was because I was advertising my Facebook Page. No need anymore... here are the details.
