Third Person POV:
Taehyung breathed out a long breath when he came out of the room. Mentally slapping himself for acting on impulse, he started walking toward the kitchen, he certainly couldn't leave the house right then.
Even if he wanted to do so ever so desperately.
He had reassured Jimin before coming here that he'd take care of Jungkook so leaving so abruptly just because he felt awkward would be dumb of him.
Speaking of being dumb, Taehyung mentally scolded himself for acting how he did back in the room. Acting so...friend-like.
Jungkook was clearly uncomfortable during the whole exchange, it was obvious.
How his hands were tightly clasped next to him, eyes wide and breath hitched. The black-haired male had looked so taken back, Taehyung felt the rush of embarrassment hit him once again.
Now, hugging shouldn't be so big of a deal, if that awkward exchange can even qualify as one. But keeping in view their current relationship, it was really stupid of him.
He shouldn't have hugged him all of a sudden, this was the nth time Taehyung had repeated that to himself.
He once again thought about why he did that as he slowly marched around the kitchen counter, mindlessly feeling up the marbled counter top.
Jungkook had looked so stressed talking—shouting at him moments before. It was like a version of Jungkook he saw for the first time.
Seeing the person he believed to be the strongest no matter how hard things got, so tired of everthing, made his insides churn.
And it was Jungkook we are talking about, the strongest, bravest and toughest person he's met, so seeing him so drained was quite a shock to him.
The Jungkook that used to embrace him and Taehyung would let himself fall into his arms, the Jungkook that would not question eveytime he cried and just console him silently, the Jungkook who was ever so optimistic, it was almost unbelievable, The Jungkook was having it so hard.
Even the strongest has their weaknesses.
Even the bravest of all are afraid of something.
Even the toughest tends to waver once in a while.
There, just minutes ago, when Taehyung saw Jungkook on the verge of tears, he couldn't help it. He couldn't just leave him crying in his own when he never did that to him. Jungkook was always around and he wanted to do the same for him.
It was his turn to return the favour.
Taehyung is sure Jungkook would take a while to become used to him being around but he have to wait for that. He is ready to wait for his friend to come back to him, it doesn't really matter how long it takes.
He'd be waiting for the day they both can laugh without any reason, take long walks along the river bank, watching the sun drown in a distance. He'll wait to have long, late night conversations. He's ready to wait for it all.
Leaned against the counter and tried to sort out his thoughts that were all over the place at the moment.
After contemplating for quite a while, he decided to make Jungkook soup. It was so random, Taehyung knew that but Jungkook might not have eaten something and he needed an excuse too anyway. To justify him walking out after hugging the other to death.
The black haired male started moving round the kitchen, wanting to get a hold of the ingredients to make soul. He opted for a simple chicken soup.
Taehyung went to open the refrigerator, grabbing the chicken breast and then bent down to find some onions and garlics that would go with the chicken in making stock.
Luckily, Jungkook did grocery and all the ingredients were lying here and there, hence Taehyung didn't have to use any alternatives.
He shoved the onions, garlic and chicken into water and heated up the pot. Leaving it on low flame, he hesitantly yet surely started walking towards Jungkook's room that he had oh so embarrassingly left earlier.
Jungkook on the other hand had gone back to his bed and decided to rest, and probably think about the whole scenario he just lived. He was no longer crying, the dried tears felt gross on his cheeks but he made no effort to wash them off.
He had heard something in the kitchen but his messed up mind couldn't even decipher anything happening around, it was like he had shut himself down, not letting anything pass through.
Weirdly enough, he didn't feel disgusted when Taehyung had hugged him. It was like a neutral sensation. Jungkook remembers how he had swore he'd punch Taehyung if he ever meets him, yet here he was, being hugged by him and doing nothing.
Jungkook would like to blame it on the shock that accompanied the warm feeling of being embraced after so long. Yes. He had been hugged dozen times. Jimin likes to squeeze him to death just to annoy him but something about this was so different. It was comforting and inviting.
Like every cell of his body was desperate to melt at the sensation, like his whole being was begging him to hide away in those strong yet gentle arms.
He was so lost in his thoughts that he missed the subtle shriek of the door as it was being opened. He even missed the familiar mop of black hair peeking through the slit.
It wasn't until Taehyung hit his feet on something lying on the floor did Jungkook notice his presence.
Taehyung winced in a small voice, eyebrows pressed together as he moved forward after getting hit. He felt Jungkook's questioning gaze but brushed it off.
He came near the bed, awkwardly glancing at Jungkook's torso resting on the bed, he met his gaze but broke it in an instance, clearing his throat afterwards.
The black-haired male began tidying up the room, having nothing to do besides that, he sighed looking at the messy floor, expensive t-shirts laying around so carelessly.
Jungkook continued staring at him intently with narrowed eyes, making Taehyung freak out internally. He really was out there staring at him like a beagle.
After what felt like hours to Jungkook, but were just mere seconds, Jungkook decided to speak up.
"Why did you hug me?"
There it was. Taehyung had already expected it but hearing it didn't fail to shake him to the core. It was just a simple hug. Why did Jungkook have to make such a big deal out of a simple gesture? Or maybe it was him making the big deal here? Why can't they both just forget that.
"You needed that."
"No, I didn't. Atleast not from you." Jungkook spat making Taehyung's heart hurt more than it already was.
"Is that supposed to make me feel bad?" The black-haired male raised a challenging brow at the male who was laying on the bed, hands crossed.
"Sure." He added nonchalantly.
"Jungkook please... Stop it already. Why are we back at it again?" He sighed, putting all the shirts in the laundry that he had picked up earlier.
"Back to what?" Retorted the raven head.
"To this." He gestured between them. "Back to fighting."
"Did we ever stop though?" Jungkook was being extremely cold and rude and he was aware of the fact that he sounded like a dick but he couldn't care less at his point.
"You're impossible." Taehyung stilled for a while and looked into the other's orbs, muttering this. He even shook his head afterwards with a low chuckle but there were no traces of humour in his voice.
"Stop touching my stuff!" Jungkook raised his voice when Taehyung started collecting the pile of books scattered everywhere, his gaze unknowingly fell on the leather diary Jungkook owned.
The raven head had seen his gaze on a certain possession of his and thus was already out of the bed, limping towards the crouched male.
"Isn't this the diary I gifted you?" Grabbing a hold of the diary, he asked the raven head who made his way to him, rage written all over his face.
"That's the least of your concerns." Taehyung wanted to slap the shit out of Jungkook who had forcefully taken the diary out of his hold and was back on his heels to place it on the nightstand next to his bed.
Jungkook had kept it.
"You seriously are impossible." The black-haired male rasped out, going back to collecting the books and paper, while Jungkook rolled his eyes at the back.
"You've become ruder, y'know?"
Taehyung added carelessly as he was now throwing the broken pieces of glass away with his bare hands. Taehyung had been told that he was clumsy and this just proves it further.
"Careful with that—" Jungkook couldn't help but warn, it was like his reflex action. His eyes followed Taehyung's movements, eyes widening slightly when the latter began collecting the pieces nonetheless.
His warning seemed to have gone to waste since not even a millisecond later Taehyung winced at the sting in his fingers.
"Fuck!" Taehyung winced silently, as he tried to carefully remove the glass piece that had somehow found its way into Taehyung's flesh, blood oozing out of the cut and dripping onto the ground.
The glass was not that sharp but the cut seemed deep and judging by Taehyung's reaction, it must have hurt.
Taehyung tried hard to remove the glass but he couldn't concentrate, the pain already taking over his senses. He felt some shuffling behind him and the next second he found Jungkook crouching beside him, hands stretched outwards as he motioned Taehyung to come closer.
What the fuck did just happen!?
A/N:
I know it's short... I wanted to update cause it's been like more than 10 days already and I'm really lagging behind. I personally don't like when updates are slow either but what can I do? It's all because of college. Fuck you college.
