FAQ

Why should I join Coalition Book-Club?
With your Coalition membership, you can:
Enjoy reading exciting, original books and novels-in-progress.
Discover and support talented, up-and-coming authors.
Get recommendations in your favourite genres.
Help authors fine-tune their stories by giving feedback.

I'm nervous that people won't like my writing. Will I fit in here?
Yes, in fact, you're one of the main reason we started this club! Coalition is where you can meet other authors and get more exposure for your writing.

How do you become a better writer? You receive feedback on your writing, which is what we do here. We're talking about candid feedback, and constructive criticism, by the way. That's the key to getting better and gaining confidence: constant practice and continual fine-tuning based on reader input.

One thing's for certain: you won't succeed unless you try, and literary success is all about taking risks and growing as a writer. Just wait till your book wins a Watty! You'll love it here. We're all seriously having a blast. We all started out a little nervous, but most of all, excited.

I don't feel "qualified" to give feedback. Can I still provide it?
Most definitely! Everyone's input matters equally, just in different ways. While experienced writers can provide specific suggestions to help with wording, pacing, plot elements, and more, non-writers are very much encouraged to give their candid opinions on what they read. After all, an author's fan base will likely be made up mostly of non-writers.

Did something not make sense to you? Chances are it wouldn't make sense to other people either, and pointing that out gives the writer a chance to clarify. Maybe you noticed a discrepancy, thought a certain section dragged a little or spotted a typo. You can make the writer aware of this by adding your feedback.

Bottom line: even the most non-technical input can help immensely, and as a community, we're all about helping our writers produce the best-finished products possible. Plus our admins will help you with that, as will our reviewing boot-camp.

Is any genre allowed?
We accept all genres, except random. And we required at least 5 chapters and weekly updates if your book is within the 5 chapters radius as the house-party reading is two chapters review weekly.

Is Discord compulsory?
No, it isn't.
If you'd like to get to know the community a bit more and join in several interesting games and discussions, let your housekeeper know and they'll get you set up in the club's Discord server.

What happens after I'm accepted?
If all the information on your form is accurate, you'll receive a message from the club telling you when your trial officially begins and what house party you've been drafted into.

What we expect from you.
We don't require much really. Just be active, polite, and put your back into helping your fellows improve through helpful feedback. There will be times when your fellows will need help with nominations in awards, we appreciate it a lot when you help each other out within the Wattpad community.

What is the club's reviewing requirement?
Members are expected to leave at least 1 in-line comment and one compulsory end of chapter review in every chapter they read. Your end of chapter review should be detailed feedback as explained in the Reviewing Bootcamp.
All reviews are revised by the housekeepers and banner officers, if your reviews aren't up to par, you'll be placed on probation.

How does upvoting work in the Ace system?
To upvote helpful feedback from a member or send a shoutout is simple. We now have a form on our bio which you can use for this.
You get one ace point and Jessie gets five ace points. To make sure no one's cheating the system just to get points, mods will check out the upvoted review before awarding ace points to both parties.

How does the house party drafting work?
As you know there are four house parties in Coalition.

Sentinels: This house party accepts every genre. Members of this house are open to reading anything.

BlackSkulls: This house excludes fan-fiction and LGBT, however, mature stories are part of the roaster here.

WinterClaw: There are no mature books in this house. LGBT may be included but explicit sexual or graphic content is not in this house's reading list.

Cardinals: The poetry club. We don't have a lot of poetry entries at the moment so this house will currently accept poetry and every other genre excluding gore [paranormal and horror].
