ii - the compass

The words left her lips easily and nonchalantly, aggravating the masked man that held her in her place as the grip he held on her wrists tightened slightly. A slight wince escaped her throat, but she still opened her mouth again, "Long time no see."

A threatening hum was the only reply she got, making Eris' smirk falter ever so slightly. She then realised that the cap that was placed on her brown hair was starting to slip sideways. To try and revert this process, she tried to reach up with her hands to fix it, only for her to realise they were still very much being pinned down by the man in front of her. She struggled against the grip for a few seconds before giving up as it obviously wasn't helping. The movement only made the blue cap slide off of her straight hair faster.

She craned her neck, leaning her head to the left in a last effort to keep the hat on her head, not even acknowledging the position she was in.

That was until the cap was smacked off her head aggressively, and Eris watched the object fall to the ground "Fucking stop it."

Annoyance was weaved through the small but intimidating sentence, making Eris snap her head back to face the mask again. A scowl grew present on her features.

She started thrashing in her place, trying to shove Dream off, but she couldn't do much as he still had a firm grip on her left wrist. That's when she realised he only held one, her right one. Without thinking she pulled back her hand forming it into fist before punching the masked man in the face, right where his cheek would be.

His head flung sideways slightly, but didn't seem too bothered as he immediately snapped his head back and threw Eris back against the tree harshly.

The brunette yelled out in pain, before Dream picked her up by her collar and trapped her between the tree and himself.

They were almost at eye level now, but Eris' feet now dangled above the ground, helplessly flaying around the Dream's death grip.

"You done?" He asked sharply, not moving an inch against Eris' endless thrashing.

The words shot a wave of frustration through her body, triggering a foolish response, "No."

The brunette regretted it instantly as she was pushed into the tree again, earning a pained wince. Her common sense seemed to wash over and she stilled in Dream's grip. Looking at the black dots daringly. She wasn't going to get anywhere if she kept aggravating the man in front of her. She needed to get back to Tommy, to L'Manberg.

"Finally." Dream sighed, relieved by the fact she finally stopped struggling. He let his grip on her falter slightly, but only slightly, before speaking up again, "You set Sapnap's house on fire."

"No, I did not." Eris replied nonchalantly, maybe a bit too quickly.

"Yes you did, you fucking bitch!" another voice shouted.

Eris looked to her right, well as far as Dream's grip allowed her to, and saw an absolutely furious Sapnap make his way over to where she was hovering above the ground.

Before she could reply, a fist connected with her jaw. The grip that was previously held on her had faltered due to the sudden and harsh movement, making her drop to the ground.

Eris found herself falling face first against the harsh forest floor, a slight daze overtaking her head caused by the punch. It took her a moment before she could recollect herself, ignoring the intense pain she felt in her jaw.

She then realised that she was not in Dream's gasp anymore, and so, she could escape.

Scanning her surroundings quickly she found her treasured cap laying half a metre away from her. Smiling, she picked up the object before placing it on her head, before retrieving a small pocket knife from her belt. She had wanted to use it earlier but was unable to due to her position.

As quickly as she could, she flung it into the direction of where Sapnap stood, hoping for it to land. She did not wait for that confirmation however as she took off running once again.

A painful cry was heard and a small smile grew on Eris' lips as she knew she had hit her target.

While she ran she could hear the shouts of both George and Dream, George's significantly further away than Dream's, as he yelled something about getting Sapnap out of here.

The brunette kept running, making sure to make sudden movements, hopefully throwing the masked man off her tail. But this never happened. He wasn't closing in on her either though, which she was very grateful for.

She knew she was running in the right direction. If she managed to escape her pursuer's grasp for a few more minutes, she would be home. Home and safe.

This was the only thing that kept her going as her aching legs carried her through the forest. It had gotten pretty dark at this point, the sun already having set. The only thing that helped her navigate the forest, being the last rays of sun that still found their way around the sky that was already dotted with stars.

It took her around ten minutes before the dark walls came into view, causing a rush of relief to run through Eris' body.

She pushed through and soon found herself inside, collapsing onto the ground in exhaustion. She kept still for a moment, catching her breath, before she looked back. She expected Dream to stand there, ready to do God-knows-what, but he was nowhere to be seen.

Eris sat up, a look of confusion visible on her features, looking around the forest in front of her while heavy breaths escaped her chapped lips.

"Erry?"

Eris looked to her side to see Tubbo making his way over to her, dropping a few logs to the ground that were previously placed in his arms.

He ran over and engulfed the girl in a hug, "I thought something happened! You didn't come back."

"Is Tommy here?" Was the only thing she replied with, while she returned the embrace, wrapping her arms around the younger boy.

"He's with Fundy. He hurt his leg so Fundy's fixing him up."

Eris huffed at Tubbo's words,

Of course the boy got himself hurt.

Ten minutes after Eris escaped the grasp of the 'Dream-team', she walked into the medical area of L'Manberg, which actually was just a large tent. When she entered, she found Tommy lying in one of the beds, Fundy sitting next to him while they talked.

A genuine smile displayed on Eris' lips as she made her way over to the two boys, earning their attention.

"Eris!" They both said in unison.

Fundy ran over and embraced the girl tightly, before pulling back and examining her face, "What happened to you? Are you alright?"

The brunette nodded, shrugging Fundy's careful hands off of her, waving dismissively, "Had a little run in with three bastards."

"You look like shit." Tommy commented from the bed he was placed on, arms crossed over his chest, but grinning cockily.

Eris rolled her eyes, "You should've seen the other guy. What happened to you anyways?"

The blond boy chuckled awkwardly, scratching the back of his neck, "I uh- I was looking at the compass, it wasn't pointing right anymore, so I got confused. I was still running but I was so focused on that bitch compass that I may have tripped over a root.."

Tommy's sentence drifted off in nothingness as he was seemingly embarrassed to continue.

The brunette shot him a questioning look, asking him to continue, and so he did.

"I fell over, and I'm fine, just sprained my ankle but-, uh- your compass didn't get off so lucky.."

A frown grew upon Eris' brows as she watched Tommy reach to his side, grabbing the object from a crooked table that stood beside the bed. He took the compass in his hands before presenting it to Eris, grimacing as he did.

"I'm sorry-,"

He cut himself off as Eris took the silver compass from his hands, carefully observing the damaged object. It had scratches all over.

She hesitated a moment before reaching over and opening it, revealing broken glass folded over the instruments of the compass itself. The broken glass seemed to be in place, only cracked and splintered.

She let her index-finger trace over the red arrow, moving the compass slightly around to see if it was still working. And to her relief, it was. The small arrow still pointed East. making a sigh escaped her lips.

Closing the compass, she eyed the symbol that was engraved on top of it for a moment, memories flashing before her eyes as she thought about the person that gave it to her. A small symbol was engraved on the top half of the compass. The symbol could be perceived in three ways: a cross, a 'T' or a blade. A certain feeling of fondness washes over her, making a small but pained smile appear on her lips.

"It's alright, Tommy." Eris spoke softly, giving the boy in front of her a reassuring smile.

She wanted to say something else but was interrupted as another figure entered the room,

"What the fuck did you two do?"
