Chapter 17
"You're bloody kidding," Rebekah exclaims.
"What do we do just wait until morning and hope he'll come outside?" Rebekah asks the three of us, her eyebrows arched as we stand on Kai's front porch.
"I say we bloody burn the house down." Klaus suggests as he grins.
"No, Klaus." I imply and his grin drops.
"Well I guess we just bloody wait," Rebekah shrugs and walks off the porch.
"We should not head back yet, we must stay to watch if he comes out." Elijah informs us.
"And sleep outside like dogs?" Rebekah questions Elijah, her eyebrows furrowed.
"Rebekah, trust me it's for the best." I state following behind her off the porch.
I turn to glance at Klaus as he follows behind me, his eyes trained in thought.
"What are you thinking?" My eyebrows arch as I face him.
"I'm trying to find a way for us to get in." Klaus claims, still focused.
I nod and turn to Elijah, "Are you alright?" He asks me before I could speak.
Offering a small smile I nod.
"Goodnight everyone. I'm going to sleep over there near that tree, if only I had a 'do not disturb' sign," Rebekah jokes then yawns.
She walks off towards the tree she pointed out leaving me, Klaus, and Elijah in the front yard.
"I guess I'll see you two in the morning." I glance at the two brothers standing in front of me.
"Goodnight." Klaus and Elijah both state at once as they walk off turning separate ways finding a clear spot to lay down in the grass.
I sit down and lay on my back, looking up at the night sky as I listen to the noisy crickets.
-
The first noise I hear while waking is the sound of birds chirping and nothing but the light wind blowing.
I sit up and glance at my surroundings.
Klaus is standing viewing the black birds scatter from tree to tree and Rebekah's yawning from just waking, as Elijah's picking some kind of berries from a tree shrub.
I yawn, "Morning,"
"How did you sleep?" Elijah asks and I notice Klaus glare at him.
"Fine, you?" I clear my throat.
"Alright." Elijah responds.
"Are you sure he's even here, Hayley?" Klaus interjects.
"I'm sure, I can smell him." I clarify.
Klaus doesn't respond and there's a couple moments of awkward silence before Klaus breaks,
"Screw it, I'm lighting the house on fire."
Klaus quickly picks up the newspaper from the ground beside the mailbox and lights a match.
I hear Rebekah sigh.
"Do you just carry matches around with you for the fun of it?" I joke and Klaus shoots a glare at me.
I shrug and Elijah smirks.
I jump up onto my feet once realizing Klaus isn't joking, and I run to him grabbing his forearm.
"Klaus, stop." I glare into his blue-green eyes and he looks confusingly at me, "Hayley, he obviously isn't coming out."
"So you burn his house down? Absolutely not," I forcibly take the lit newspaper into my hands.
"Hayley, what are you doing?" Klaus glares.
I throw the paper onto the ground and stomp on it, fading the fire.
"We can just throw something and break his windows until he comes out. Sooner or later that will trigger him to face us outside." Elijah blurts a smart suggestion.
"Sounds good," I say and glare at Klaus, "Or would you rather bomb the house?"
Klaus rolls his impassive eyes and walks away.
"I'll try finding a few decent sized rocks." I walk towards the trees and start my search as Rebekah helps.
