Imam: The name of an Islamic leadership position. It is most commonly used as the title of a worship leader of a mosque and Muslim community. The Imam looks after his community and can be seen for help or advice. I think, the closest way I could help you guys understand is to kinda compare to Cristianity in the sense that the Imam is kind of like the pope... in a way. 

An Imam also leads prayers. Prayer can be done by oneself but can also be done in a group. If you see the vid attached, you'll find that the man at the front is reading arabic and leading prayer (that man is Nouman Ali Khan and he's awesome. Check out his lectures, I defo prefer them to the ones my parents give me:).
