Visitation

A lot had happened during the past week or so, a prisoner exchange happened which led to Pidge finding her dad and Lotor killing Zarkon; however, just because Zarkon had been killed didn't mean Voltron wasn't still needed to defend the universe, Sendak was still out there somewhere and so was anyone else who wanted to take over the throne. Either Coran or Shiro brought food to (Y/n) each time Allura joined everyone else for meals since she was still angry at her for saving Haxus' life and not telling anyone. The only thing (Y/n) wanted more than anything else was to see her beloved lover, she missed him terribly and she knew he definitely missed her just as much; the thought of him sitting alone in a prison cell made her stomach twist in discomfort. She felt uncomfortable with Lotor moving about the castle freely, she hated that he could be seen as an ally while Haxus had to be kept prisoner. (Y/n) liked it when Matt came to visit and she enjoyed getting to know Sam, she couldn't help but notice just how much Matt and Pidge took after him.

She still had to deal with throwing up every evening; (Y/n) was grateful for Coran, Shiro and Sam helping her through her evening sickness each time it happened. (Y/n) couldn't allow herself to get too stressed out, she didn't want to lose her unborn baby since she was still at risk of miscarriage; she had a plan to visit Haxus, though, since she knew where he was and all she had to do was wait for the perfect opportunity. She appreciated the paladins for helping her during her fragile condition, but the one thing she needed was for Haxus to be by her side again, unfortunately her depression had been getting the better of her. After a particularly long day of meetings and other such things (Y/n) waited until everyone went to bed for the night, making sure no one would wake up while she snuck down to the dungeon. The young woman used her flashlight to navigate the long corridors once she left her room, walking as quietly as she could until she was far enough away from everyone's bedrooms.

Her bed had been so cold and lonely without Haxus sleeping next to her, more often than not she cried when she woke up because of how lonely she felt. As soon as (Y/n) was in the elevator she hoped Haxus wasn't too distraught without her, she'd been extremely worried about him and she wouldn't feel better until they were together again. It wasn't long before she entered the dungeon and saw the singular light Haxus' cell gave off, she could see him laying on his bed with his back turned towards her. After spending so long in isolation aside from the occasional interrogation he'd become depressed, he was convinced that the paladins were trying to break his spirit by keeping him away from his mate for as long as possible. He flinched when he heard a timid knock on the thick force field of his cell, thinking it was another trick of his mind until he turned around only to see (Y/n) standing there.

"Haxus." (Y/n) quietly spoke when she saw him turn around; he looked exhausted and he had bags under his eyes, she knew he probably hadn't gotten very much sleep after being captured.

"Is it really you, (Y/n)?" Haxus rasped after blinking a couple of times, trying to make sure he wasn't having another hallucination.

"Yes, it's me. I- You have no idea how much I've missed you. I've never felt so lonely before, every night I dream that you're with me and every day that we're apart feels like an eternity." (Y/n) confirmed, letting out a sob of sadness as tears welled up in her eyes; she didn't want to cry in front of Haxus, but she couldn't stop herself by the time she started.

"Please don't cry, darling. I'll get out of this cell before you know it, then we'll be together again." Haxus said when he got off of the uncomfortable bed and walked over to the force field, kneeling down to his mate's height and placing his hands on the solid energy field.

(Y/n) just stood there, hands and forehead pressed against the force field as she cried; fat tears welled up in her eyes before spilling down her cheeks, unable to hold them back. She never wanted Haxus to have been captured because she knew the paladins would never accept him, it was a miracle that they didn't toss him out of the airlock when they had the chance. Haxus' heart ached badly from the sound of his mate's cries, in a way he felt as though he'd failed her because he couldn't be there for her when she needed him most. The reason he didn't put up a fight when the paladins captured him was because he didn't want them to kill him, even though he hated them with a burning passion he needed to somehow earn their trust. If only he'd shown (Y/n) the possible home locations they could live earlier on then he wouldn't have been found and he wouldn't be trapped in a lonely prison cell.

"It's not fair. It's not fair that you're here and they're letting Lotor have all the freedom he wants. It's not fair that they trust him more than you, I know that he's up to something horrible. I don't know how much longer I can last without you." (Y/n) choked out, hot tears streaming down her cheeks as she spoke with her eyes closed, desperately wishing that she could do something to help get Haxus out sooner.

"I know, darling. Things might not be ideal right now, but I swear that I will get out of here sooner or later. The paladins have been interrogating me lately, if I can earn their trust then they'll let me out for good behavior. Try to hold out for me, please, I couldn't live if you weren't around when I regain my freedom." Haxus spoke firmly, looking at (Y/n) through the force field while promising her that he would eventually earn his freedom; he couldn't bear to think about a life without her by his side, she was his intended wife and he refused to let the paladins permanently separate them.

"I hope so, I don't want to go through my pregnancy alone and I want you to be with me when I have our baby." (Y/n) pleaded as she opened her eyes and her gaze met Haxus', even with a barrier between them nothing could truly keep them apart.

"You won't, I wouldn't miss being by your side for anything in the universe. When I'm freed I'm going to cuddle with you in our love nest for an eternity and I'm never going to let you go. I didn't cheat death only to lose you." Haxus assured her, a slight smile appearing on his face in an attempt of comforting her to the best of his ability.

(Y/n) tried to put on a brave face for her lover, but the thought of leaving him in the dungeon when she had to go back to bed felt like someone punched her in the heart. Loud sobs and keens echoed throughout the dungeon as she began crying again, dealing with pregnancy hormones and not having Haxus with her was too much for her to bear, if he wasn't freed soon then she felt like she would die from a broken heart. Haxus shut his eyes and allowed himself to cry; he couldn't stand hearing (Y/n) cry and not having the ability to properly comfort her was hard on him. He'd tried breaking out through the force field during his first night in the tiny confined room, unfortunately he was trapped and there was nothing he could do about it. Haxus didn't want to miss out on (Y/n's) pregnancy, back when he was a part of the galra empire he didn't have the option to have a family of his own, although ever since (Y/n) saved him he did and he didn't want to miss out on such an important life event.

(Y/n) and Haxus spent as much time with each other as they could, even though they couldn't truly be together with the force field in the way. Haxus disliked having to play nice and practically beg the paladins to let him have his freedom, it was humiliating and sometimes he wished that he'd killed Lance when he had the chance, but he knew (Y/n) didn't want him to kill anyone who wasn't evil. He longed to hold her in his arms again while laying in bed, he would be overjoyed when he got to feel her against him again. (Y/n) didn't want to have to leave Haxus again, she wanted to stay with him, although if she stayed then she would be in trouble. She and Haxus spoke their love for each other before she left, promising that they would see each other again as soon as they could; falling asleep while sleeping alone was still difficult for both of them, although they slept a little better after her visit.
