The attack of the common cold
It shouldn't have been possible; it was illogical to be possible so far out in space, but Lance somehow caught the common cold. He was the first one to catch it but then one by one everyone else started catching it too, even Allura who thought it was impossible for alteans to catch such a thing. Coran was the only one aside from Haxus to have been lucky enough not to catch it, but Coran kept his distance from everyone and wore a mask when he was near them so that he didn't get sick too. So as (Y/n) blew her nose while she sat up in bed, feeling stuffy as was normal when one was sick with the common cold, she felt mildly drowsy and miserable. Everyone except for Coran and Haxus were sick with the common cold thanks to Lance, it wasn't like he meant to sneeze after he somehow caught a cold; the sneeze snuck up on him and he didn't have time to cover his nose and ended up getting almost everyone sick.
Needless to say, everyone wasn't too happy with Lance for getting them sick with something like the common cold while they were out in space. (Y/n) questioned Haxus if he could catch the cold, but he kept insisting that with his superior galra genes he couldn't catch such a minor virus. Haxus didn't like seeing the young woman sick and he took it upon himself to nurse her back to health; the need to take care of her surprised him, although he didn't question it. He was minorly disgusted with the amount of mucus humans could produce when they were sick but he didn't let it deter him from getting (Y/n) the tissues, water and soup she so desperately needed. Speaking of soup, he was on his way back from the kitchen with a cup of ice water and a bowl of ferois hyper-noodle soup which would help her get better sooner.
"Here's some more soup." Haxus spoke softly when he walked into (Y/n's) room, seeing that she had woken up from her nap.
"Did Coran see you?" (Y/n) curiously inquired, her tone stuffy due to having a stuffy nose; she hated being sick, but with the soup and a lot of rest she would eventually get better.
"No. I assume he's busy taking care of the others." Haxus calmly assured her, still thankful that he hadn't been spotted; if he had been seen it wouldn't have been good.
"That's good. Thank you for the soup and the ice water." (Y/n) thanked him after he gave her the bowl of warm soup and the spoon, barely able to smell its delicious scent due to her stuffy nose.
Haxus put the cup of water on the nightstand and sat on the edge of the bed as he watched (Y/n) start eating the soup, feeling oddly happy with being able to take care of her just as she had done with him. He wished that he could move around freely within the castle; it would help him feel less cooped up and give him the chance to get whatever (Y/n) needed until she felt better. While he was preoccupied by his thoughts of having a little more freedom (Y/n) gently blew on each spoonful of soup before she ate it so as not to accidentally burn the inside of her mouth. She enjoyed the soft noodles mixed with the broth and small odd looking vegetables that she couldn't remember the name of, practically humming in satisfaction with each spoonful she ate. When she looked up at Haxus and saw that he was staring off into space she wondered what he was thinking about; Haxus was so deep in thought that he didn't notice (Y/n) looking up at him until she got his attention.
"Are you positive that you can't catch the common cold? I don't want to get you sick since we've still been sleeping together." (Y/n) questioned with a stuffy yet firm tone, snapping Haxus out of his thoughts and watching as he turned his attention back to her.
"Yes, I'm positive. There's no way that any galra can catch such a minor virus." Haxus assured her with an exasperated sigh; he'd never heard about galra catching human illnesses, so naturally he knew that he wouldn't catch her cold.
"Have you ever gotten sick?" (Y/n) queried; despite living with the galran male for several months she still didn't know too much about his past before he was Sendak's lieutenant.
"Of course I have; there are illnesses galra catch, but with our technology for healing pods and advanced medical specialists we don't get sick very often." Haxus responded bluntly, giving (Y/n) his answer while wondering if she was a little delirious, which she probably was.
(Y/n) still had her doubts about galra not being able to get sick from a human illness, so she hoped he was right. She went back to eating her soup again before it got too cold to eat, savoring its delicious flavor with each spoonful she ate. Haxus just sat on the edge of the bed and kept her company as she finished the soup and drank some of the water from the cup, taking the bowl and the spoon back to the kitchen after she was done eating. He made sure to listen for any footsteps on his journey to and from the kitchen, but of course he was sneaky enough not to get caught by anyone. Little did Haxus know what the future held for him within the next week; as for that particular time he was focused on taking care of (Y/n) and not being seen by the others.
__________
(Y/n) sighed as she walked back to her room with a bowl of warm soup and a new box of tissues; she tried to warn Haxus that he would get sick, but he didn't listen and it led to him catching the common cold. He'd taken care of her when she was sick so she didn't mind taking care of him again, albeit for a different reason than the first time. She expected Haxus to be extra grumpy while he was sick, but he acted more vulnerable than she expected and it was easier for her to take care of him. With everyone else back to not being sick (Y/n) had to be careful not to be seen; everyone knew that she wasn't sick anymore and they would get suspicious if they saw her taking a bowl of soup and a box of tissues to her room. When (Y/n) walked into her room she saw Haxus laying on the bed; his skin was a lighter shade than usual and his ears drooped down as he wheezed.
"Hey Hax, how are you feeling?" (Y/n) inquired after she put the box of tissues and the bowl of soup on her nightstand, sitting on the edge of her bed and smiling kindly at him.
"I can't breathe and I feel lightheaded." Haxus answered as best as he could despite having a very stuffy nose, reaching for the first tissue and wiping his nose since it was runny.
"Yeah, that's pretty normal. You'll get better soon." (Y/n) told her roommate with an understanding tone; she knew how hard it was to be sick during the worst of times.
Haxus blew his nose and dropped the tissue in the little trash can next to the bed before he reached for the bowl of soup, gripping the handle of the spoon and picking it up before he ate the first spoonful. He felt disoriented due to the inability to smell and his ears feeling as though they were clogged, making him feel vulnerable and low-key needy for (Y/n) to take care of him. In his delirious state of mind he didn't realize how needy he was acting, not that it really mattered while he was sick. (Y/n) watched Haxus eat the soup and wondered if his fever had gone down; she checked it earlier, but she had to return the thermometer to the bathroom so it being missing wouldn't be suspicious. She scooted closer to the galran man, put her dominant hand on his forehead and felt how hot he still was, surprised when she heard him let out a short purr.
"You're still so hot." (Y/n) commented without thinking much about how she said it, feeling how hot Haxus' body was; he was obviously still running a fever.
"I knew you were attracted to me, darling." Haxus responded flirtatiously, completely delusional due to being sick; if he was in his right state of mind he wouldn't have flirted with her.
"W-what?! Haxus, you're delusional." (Y/n) asked him with a stunned tone before regaining her composure, reminding herself that he wasn't aware of what he was saying.
Haxus smiled weakly and purred as best as he could in response before he once again turned his attention back to the bowl of soup he was eating. The soup tasted a little bland and he could barely smell it, but the spices in the broth would help him get better. (Y/n) watched Haxus while he ate the soup and felt bad that she was the reason he was sick in the first place; she had to sanitize her room every so often to kill the germs, keeping herself from getting sick again and stopping any cold germs from spreading. She tried not to be too worried about his health; Haxus survived much worse before, so he would get better sooner rather than later. After Haxus finished eating his soup he wanted to cuddle with (Y/n) who let him spoon her from behind; thankfully no one else got sick after Haxus got better.
