Sneaking food and almost getting caught
Keeping Haxus a secret was easier than (Y/n) originally thought, but feeding him was harder than she imagined. She was thankful that Haxus wasn't a picky eater, but she figured that it was because he hadn't eaten real food in such a long time. Just recently Hunk found Human food at the Earth store at the Space Mall; including (Y/n's) favorite food. As (Y/n) looked in one of the kitchen cupboards she selected a small bag of chips, three breakfast bars, some beef jerky and she already filled a cup of water. Since everyone was busy having a meeting in the lounge, the young woman was able to get the food and water to her new roommate fairly easily.
"Hey Hax, are you awake?" (Y/n) queried in a calm, quiet tone as she entered her room, holding the snacks with one arm while carrying the cup of water with her free hand.
"Why do you insist on calling me that? Are you unable to call me by my full name?" Haxus questioned as he watched (Y/n) walk over to the bed, narrowing his eyes so that he was glaring at her.
(Y/n) huffed and rolled her eyes at his behavior, putting the food and water on the nightstand before sitting on the edge of the bed. She sat at the foot of the bed, knowing that her roommate didn't like her being too close to him during the day. Haxus eyed the strange looking food, unsure of what to think of it. (Y/n) just watched him, waiting for him to try something; she knew that it would be a while before he trusted her.
"You're trying to poison me" Haxus spoke accusingly, glaring at (Y/n) with narrowed yellow eyes; he definitely wasn't going to trust her.
"No I'm not. That food is from Earth; it's perfectly safe." (Y/n) calmly assured him, trying not to let him frustrate her; his pickiness reminded her of a child.
"How do I know that you're not lying?" Haxus asked, growling a short, threatening growl.
"Because that's not something I want to do to you. I'm trying to help you get better. Look, this is all I had time to get." (Y/n) retorted, looking him in the eye while trying to get frustrated.
Haxus huffed as he turned his attention back to the food (Y/n) brought for him to eat, feeling his stomach grumble. Everything looked questionable, but he smelled meat and chose the beef jerky. It kind of reminded him of the meat his father used to hunt for and dry, but it smelled a little spicy, too. (Y/n) watched as Haxus chose the beef jerky, thankful that he finally chose something to eat. Haxus liked the jerky more than he cared to admit out loud, but he didn't know (Y/n) could easily tell that he really liked it.
__________
Shortly after dinner and after (Y/n) did the dishes, it was time for her to bring dinner to Haxus. (Y/n) had made enough food so that there would be leftovers, but she had to be careful sneaking the food back to her room. She put some of the food onto a large plate after reheating some of it and got a cup of water like usual. Before she left the kitchen, (Y/n) grabbed some silverware and looked both ways before proceeding to walk out into the hallway while holding the plate of food and the cup. (Y/n) almost had the feeling that someone was going to find her sneaking food and water to her room, but so far no one had.
(Y/n) had to listen out for the others as she tiptoed through the hallways, not wanting to get caught. If they found out that she was hiding Haxus, she would be in huge trouble and they would imprison him. As (Y/n) was walking to her room, Shiro was heading to the bathroom so that he could take a shower. Unfortunately, they ended up crossing paths. (Y/n) and Shiro stopped walking when they saw each other; (Y/n) felt like panicking, but she had to remain calm.
"Hey, (Y/n). How are you do- Why are you carrying a plate of food and a cup of water?" Shiro queried with curiosity, arching an eyebrow as he looked at the food and water; his tone of voice started off casual, but it quickly turned into his Space Dad tone.
"What, this? I was just hungry for seconds, but I wanted to eat it in my room." (Y/n) answered as calmly as she could while referring to the full meal she had, feeling herself start to sweat a little.
"Are you close to that time of the month again?" Shiro questioned, worried about (Y/n); he didn't really have any experience with women, but he knew enough to be respectful.
"Um… Maybe…" (Y/n) responded awkwardly, not wanting him to ask too many questions about what she was actually doing.
"Alright, but make sure that you exercise tomorrow." Shiro told (Y/n), a soft smile gracing his lips.
"Don't worry, I will." (Y/n) assured him, feeling a little less panicked.
Shiro carefully gave her a quick side hug before continuing his way to the bathroom. Once (Y/n) was alone again, she let out a sigh of relief before walking to her room. When she opened her bedroom door, walked in and locked the door after it slid shut behind her, she saw Haxus sitting up in bed, waiting for her.
"What took you so long?" Haxus questioned, narrowing his eyes at her in suspicion.
"Shiro almost caught me, but I convinced him that I was going to eat this." (Y/n) answered as she gave him the plate of food and put the cup of water on the nightstand.
Haxus looked at the food, his face twisting in disgust when he saw some kind of Altean vegetables. (Y/n) sat on the edge of the bed, hoping that he would find the food adequate. Haxus gave you a questioning look, slightly quirking an eyebrow. Vegetables weren't something that galra ate regularly, mostly because they didn't get many nutrients from them, but also because Vegetables tasted bitter to most galra.
"I'm sorry, it was Coran's turn to cook." (Y/n) apologized, feeling bad for the poor man who laid on her bed, knowing that galra hated vegetables.
"I've had to eat a lot of disgusting things during my life, but none that resemble these." Haxus told (Y/n), pointing to the mixture of odd looking vegetables on the plate.
"Again, I'm so sorry. The red round fruit with the green stuff on the tip of their stems isn't so bad." (Y/n) offered, trying to convince him to eat something.
Haxus muttered something under his breath as he picked up a red fruit, plucked its stem off and popped it into his mouth. It tasted sweet and a little tangy, but a tad bit bitter at the same time. He decided to eat another after he felt his stomach grumble, not wanting to starve. (Y/n) smiled slightly as she watched him eat, hoping that he didn't completely hate the food. If Haxus had to choose, he would prefer to eat something you cooked as long as it was meat or some sort of fruit dish; he just wasn't going to tell you that.
__________
Once again, (Y/n) found herself bringing Haxus another plate of food. (Y/n) got to help Hunk make dinner and she made sure that one of the dishes was made out of meat. Haxus was still very thin and he was still dehydrated, but he was able to walk a little better. (Y/n) decided to bring him a large bowl of stew that had chunks of some kind of meat in it along with a glass of fresh milk from Kaltenecker, knowing he would love the food. She wasn't sure where everyone else was, so she had to be extra careful.
As (Y/n) walked down one of the hallways, she couldn't stop thinking about Haxus. Sure, he was rude, he had a big ego and he didn't seem to care about anyone but himself, but he was also kind of good looking and his voice was incredibly sexy. (Y/n) was so busy thinking about Haxus and wondering if she could help him see the error of his ways that she didn't notice Keith coming from the other direction. Her eyes widened when she turned the corner and saw Red Paladin walking in her direction, panicking a little.
"Um…" (Y/n) said awkwardly as she and Keith stopped walking, making eye contact with each other.
"Are you hungry again?" Keith asked the young woman with curiosity, briefly looking at the bowl of stew and the glass of milk.
"Yes…" (Y/n) replied as casually as she could, trying her best not to seem nervous.
"You know, you've smelled strange for the past week or so; like you've been hanging out with someone else." Keith commented dryly, looking back up at
(Y/n).
"Nope, I haven't been hanging out with anyone. I mean, there is no one else to hang out with. It must be that ancient altean laundry soap I've been using! Anyway, I'll see you later." (Y/n) said quickly, trying to come up with an excuse; you didn't even know how Keith could tell that she smelled differently.
Keith was even more confused than before by (Y/n's) odd excuse, but shrugged it off. He watched as she went around him and walked as fast as she could to her room. He knew that she was hiding something, but he decided not to get involved in whatever it was; it was her life and he respected her privacy. Once (Y/n) was in the safety of her room, she sighed in relief.
"Did someone else almost catch you?" Haxus asked her sarcastically, a sinister grin appearing on his face.
"If you must know, yes, I did." (Y/n) replied, rolling her eyes as she walked over to the nightstand and put the bowl with the spoon on the nightstand, along with the cup of milk.
"And what, pray tell, is that?" Haxus questioned while looking at the cup of milk, never having seen the white liquid before.
"It's fresh milk; it's good for your bones." (Y/n) clarified, sitting on the edge of the foot of the bed.
Haxus grabbed the cup of milk and sniffed it; the white liquid wasn't something he had ever seen before. It didn't smell awful, but it didn't smell too appealing, either. His face scrunched up when he tried tasting it, but he decided to drink it anyway. Normally milk was only produced by mothers who were nursing kits, but this milk obviously wasn't from a person.
"So, how have you been feeling today?" (Y/n) quietly asked her roommate, trying to start a conversation.
"Do you want me to answer that?" Haxus questioned, glaring at her as he put the cup back on the nightstand before grabbing the bowl of soup and the spoon.
"No, I'm good." (Y/n) answered awkwardly, not wanting to know his opinion; she was already beginning to feel slightly frustrated.
Haxus quietly growled, annoyed by
(Y/n's) presence. (Y/n) knew that it would probably take forever for her to get him to warm up to her, but she was going to keep trying to earn his trust no matter how long it would take. When Haxus tasted the warm stew he was surprised at how good it tasted, especially since it had meat in it. (Y/n) were happy that he at least liked the stew that she gave him, letting out a silent sigh of relief. As Haxus ate, he suddenly didn't mind (Y/n's) presence; he figured it was because she brought him a meal that he actually liked.
