Revenge
A few days passed and since Lotor and Allura went to galra central command which meant (Y/n) and Haxus could move about freely in the castle whenever they liked without having to worry too much. Haxus enjoyed spending time in the training room where he could fight the training bots, he even had a good spar against Shiro who turned out to be a worthy opponent. Shiro didn't mind sparring with Haxus too much since the other man never actually made a move to hurt him, it felt good to be able to spar with someone skilled. Haxus and Sendak got to see Shiro in a few gladiator matches before Ulaz helped him escape, he couldn't deny that he had been somewhat of a fan back then. Haxus still spent most of his time with (Y/n), both of them still had to discuss potential home locations and what they would need to get for their new home.
(Y/n) knew that she probably wouldn't ever go back to Earth and it made her feel a mixture of emotions, although Haxus offered to take her back to visit every so often after their lives settled down a little and their child was old enough to travel. One day when Lotor sent the paladins some coordinates for a top secret base where the crew still hadn't allied themselves with the coalition Haxus offered to go with them, he knew the base well because he and Sendak used to go there all the time, he would be able to help them navigate it better. Naturally the four remaining paladins weren't sure if they should let Haxus join them or not, in the end they did since he knew things about the base that they didn't. Pidge found Haxus' sword when she found Rover and hesitantly returned it to him, knowing he would need it during the mission. (Y/n) was beyond shocked that Shiro, Lance, Hunk and Pidge were letting him help them and she was a little scared that he might get hurt, although she didn't want to prevent him from getting out and doing something good for the universe.
"Are you sure you'll be alright while I'm away?" Haxus asked (Y/n) whilst they stood in front of the black lion whose head was lowered and with her mouth open, both of them saying a temporary farewell to each other.
"I'm going to be perfectly fine, I'm more worried about you. You better come back to me alive." (Y/n) replied with a concerned tone, looking him in the eye as she spoke.
"You have nothing to worry about, darling. I won't let anything bad happen to me, I promise. Make sure to get plenty of rest today, I'll be back before you know it." Haxus spoke reassuringly, leaning forward so he could give her a gentle goodbye kiss.
(Y/n) delicately caressed the back of Haxus' head when he kissed her, she couldn't wait for him to return so she could be sure he was safe and sound. They broke the kiss a few seconds later and let go of each other so he could stand up and walk up the ramp into the black lion, grabbing his pre-packed lunch so that he wouldn't have to go hungry. (Y/n) left the hangar before Black closed her mouth and sat upright, turning around so she could fly out of the castle with her paladin and his guest. (Y/n) wasn't used to being on her own, although there were a few things she wanted to do and with her temporary alone time she could do them, thankfully the things she wanted to do were safe for her to do while pregnant. With his sword by his side and the promise to return to his significant other Haxus was prepared to help the paladins complete their mission, he'd even retrieved his armor earlier that day which luckily wasn't too damaged.
__________
If there was one thing Haxus never thought he'd be doing during any point in his life was riding in the black lion of Voltron, the very same one he and Sendak were sent to search for by Zarkon. The interior was very nice and he could understand why Zarkon wanted it so badly, thankfully the ancient emperor never got a hold of the black lion or re-bonded with Black. Shiro and the others landed their lions in a clearing in a forest near the base shortly after they arrived on the planet, all four of them using the cloaking technology Pidge installed. Haxus left his lunch in the black lion and grabbed his sword and communicator before Black bowed down to let him and Shiro out; during the flight Haxus got an eerie feeling that the black lion was judging him, although he tried to ignore it as much as he could. He knew the ins and the outs of the base they were about to infiltrate, so once everyone was out of their lions he warned them about the drones and sentries.
Pidge used her hacking skills to hack into the base's security system and shut it down for about thirty minutes, it wouldn't give them much time to shut the project down but it would be better than nothing. Haxus was honestly impressed by Pidge's technological skills, despite only being around fifteen years old she really knew how to hack and use technology. Once the security systems were offline Haxus and the paladins stood in the bushes in the treeline near the base for a few seconds, waiting to see if any guards would come out or not. The base was pretty old and no one came out to see what was going on, everyone assumed it would be safe enough and they quickly ran to the front door. Once they were inside Haxus suddenly felt as though something was off, especially since there weren't any live guards anywhere to be seen, deep down he felt as though something was very wrong.
"Hey, is this place fully automated or something? This place is creeping me out with all the sentries and the drones laying on the floor." Hunk asked Haxus anxiously while holding his Bayard close to his body, but facing away from him in case he needed to use it.
"No, there's supposed to be a live crew here with one of the older commanders in charge. Something isn't right." Haxus replied with uncertainty, listening to their surroundings in case someone was hiding somewhere.
"Then we should hurry and see if we can do anything, there's no point of us staying here longer than necessary." Shiro responded with a serious tone, he felt just as unnerved as the others felt while they cautiously walked down one of the hallways.
About a month before their mission Sendak took over the base and sent the previous crew back to galra central command so he could have a hiding place until he could rally his allies and attack Earth; he kept the drones and the sentries as extra added security, although he wouldn't have expected any unexpected guests that day. He already knew about the paladins being there, but he didn't know about Haxus being there as well, or at least he didn't, yet. The sound of their footsteps on the metal floor only made everything seem more eerie, almost like a horror movie. Pidge was using the holomap Haxus gave her so she could help navigate the hallway; Haxus knew she was skilled and he wanted to see how skilled, he knew it was important for young ones to be given new tasks to complete every so often. The galran man stopped in his tracks when he caught a new scent, turning in the direction he and the others came; they were being followed and he knew exactly who was following them.
"Someone's following us." Haxus spoke in a hushed whisper when the paladins stopped walking so they could look at him, he could easily sense danger and he intended on getting his revenge on the man who left him for dead.
"We don't have very long. Go distract whoever it is if you want, I promise that we'll wait for you at our lions." Shiro told Haxus with a sigh, he knew that he couldn't stop him from fighting off anyone who wanted them dead.
Haxus nodded prior to running in the direction of the scent which just so happened to be in the same direction as the front door, Sendak was trying to corner them inside the base and he couldn't let that happen. The paladins were trying to help the universe and, even though he still disliked them, he became their ally and he intended on finally getting rid of Sendak who would never change his old ways. Haxus' heart pounded hard in his chest as he followed the scent, occasionally stopping to listen to his surroundings before taking off running again; he knew there was a chance that he might not make it back alive, but he had improved his fighting skills and he had to take a chance if it meant ridding the universe of Sendak. The musk of Sendak's scent led him back outside where it got stronger, he was glad that the older male was outside because it would give him more room to fight. Haxus stopped walking when he saw Sendak and Sendak did the same, for a moment the fluffy male looked as though he'd just seen a ghost.
"You- You're dead." Sendak spoke with a stunned tone when he saw Haxus standing a few feet in front of him, his left eye widening; he honestly thought Haxus had died back when they tried taking over the castle of lions, he didn't know how his ex-lieutenant managed to survive.
"You mean you left me for dead. Since then I've come to my senses. As we stand here today I have no intention to let you leave this planet alive. I'm here to get my revenge and make the universe a safer place." Haxus growled in response, bearing his teeth as he drew his sword while getting into a fighting stance.
"You've gone soft, just like the weaklings you've allied yourself with. You might have evaded death once, but you won't this time. The universe has no room for deserters." Sendak snarled, charging straight for the shorter man who dodged him at the last second; Haxus was a good fighter, but not quite as good as him.
Haxus had to survive, not only to live another day but also for (Y/n's) sake; she and their child needed him, he refused to leave her without a mate and their child without a father. He let out a battle cry when he quickly turned around and charged towards Sendak, having to dodge him again when he came at him with anger; if he wasn't careful then he would get killed. The battle would undoubtedly be intense and fighting off a larger opponent was never easy, thankfully Haxus knew how to use his smaller size to his advantage and defeat his enemy. Loud snarls and growls were heard for a two mile radius as the two galran men engaged in a fierce battle, startling the local wildlife and anyone else who might have heard them. Haxus knew that he would undoubtedly get injured during his battle with Sendak, but he wouldn't stop until the big burly male was dead and he made sure he was dead, he had to make up for everything he'd done during his past.
_________
Since they learned that the base was fully automated the paladins set off a few bombs inside to destroy anything valuable, apparently Lotor didn't know about the recent change and they would tell him about it later. They left through the back entrance in a hurry, but they could hear the telltale sounds of two male galra having a death battle, one of which they knew was Haxus. Shiro promised him that they would wait and he intended on keeping that promise, Haxus had been left for dead once before and the black paladin wasn't going to repeat that situation, plus he feared (Y/n) when she was angry. None of the paladins knew how long the fight lasted but Lance, Hunk and Pidge decided to wait in their lions since they didn't want to hear anyone get killed; Shiro was used to hearing the scream someone made when they were brutally killed, so he wasn't really affected by it. Haxus miraculously won the battle between him and Sendak and made sure to truly finish the job before he limped to the clearing where the lions were, he had a new large gash across his back and one on his left leg, but he would survive.
"What happened?" Shiro asked Haxus once he was close enough, immediately rushing over to the other man’s side so he could help him get into the black lion.
"Sendak was here, he took over this base a while ago. I've finished him off, he can never hurt anyone ever again." Haxus mumbled with exhaustion, letting Shiro help him walk up the ramp.
Shiro was beyond surprised that Sendak was gone, although knowing Haxus he made sure that there would have been no way for the now deceased commander to come back to life. Before they could go back to the castle of lions Shiro performed some basic first aid on Haxus, the gashes on his back and left leg were really bad and would need to be stitched up, he would call Ulaz during the flight back and he could get everything in the infirmary ready when he arrived. Learning to trust another person aside from his girlfriend to help him made Haxus feel anxious, it went against his instincts, he just had to remind himself that he might die of blood loss if Shiro didn't help him. Once Shiro had Haxus bandaged up and resting on the back seat he and the others began their journey back to the castle of lions, he contacted the other three paladins through the comm system and told them about Sendak being dead after he contacted Ulaz. Their mission had been exhausting and Haxus nearly died, the good thing was they were successful and their new ally survived while he left Sendak laying dead on the ground, never again to live another day.
__________
Ulaz had known about Haxus long before the paladins did and when Shiro contacted him about Haxus needing him to stitch up the gashes across his back and on his left leg he went into full doctor mode. He wasn't surprised to learn that the paladins found out about Haxus, he knew they would sooner or later, but he was surprised that they weren't keeping him as a prisoner anymore. (Y/n) had to stay out of the infirmary while Ulaz stitched up the slash along Haxus' back and the one on his leg; the good doctor brought everything he needed, including a tablet taken orally to temporarily increase blood production while Haxus slept in a healing pod for a few days. (Y/n) was surprised when Shiro told her that her lover got revenge on Sendak, she was naturally proud of him but also extremely worried since he lost quite a bit of blood. Ulaz reassured her that Haxus would be alright as long as he had the right amount of time to heal.
Much to Lance's displeasure Allura would be gone with Lotor for a while longer, (Y/n) still felt angry about him outing Haxus but since her boyfriend wasn't a prisoner any more she hesitantly forgave the red paladin and tried assuring him that he shouldn't be too worried about losing the love of his life. (Y/n) couldn't sit in the infirmary all the time like she would have liked because she needed to sleep on her overly comfortable bed for her own sake and their baby's, although she visited the pod he slept in every day. Sometime after Haxus came out of the healing pod she wanted to have her lower belly scanned again so they could see how their baby was doing, even though they wouldn't look like a baby yet. She was taking a nap in her and Haxus' room when Haxus' time in the healing pod came to an end; Coran helped him out of the pod and sent him on his way once he could walk properly again. Haxus walked straight to his and (Y/n's) room as quickly as he could, smiling in content when he saw her napping in the love nest he made for them.
"Haxus, is that you?" (Y/n) quietly asked when she heard someone come into her room, she hadn't been in a deep sleep because of how badly she missed him.
"Yes, it's me. I'm sorry for waking you up." Haxus confirmed lovingly before joining her on the bed and apologizing, he never meant to wake her up.
"It's alright, I missed you. I was worried that you weren't going to make it." (Y/n) mumbled sleepily as she watched her boyfriend lay down in front of her, cuddling up to him as soon as he got settled.
"You have nothing to be worried about, darling, I'm here with you now. The universe is a safer place without Sendak." Haxus spoke assuringly while a soft purr vibrated his chest, gently wrapping his arms around her protectively.
(Y/n) sighed against his chest and felt content, she was just thankful that her boyfriend survived his fight with Sendak and she hoped it would prove to the paladins that he truly changed. Neither Haxus nor (Y/n) needed to say anything while they snuggled together on their bed, simply being in each other's presence was good enough. Fighting Sendak had been scary for Haxus, he'd spent a very long time serving under the furry commander and back when (Y/n) first saved him he had a hard time accepting that he abandoned him, he was lucky to have been saved by the young woman. With his past finally left behind him Haxus could focus on his future with (Y/n) and their baby; back when he left for the mission she had been eight and a half weeks into her pregnancy and by the time the present came she was around nine weeks along. (Y/n) still felt kind of sleepy, but finally having a moment of peace with Haxus made her feel excited and emotional.
"Would you like me to read to you later? I found an old book from Daibazaal in the library before I went with the paladins and it's full of ancient tales." Haxus asked (Y/n) after a while, wanting to do something fun yet relaxing with her later that evening.
"I would like that, but for now I don't want to go anywhere and I don't want you to go anywhere either. It's been too long since we've had any time to ourselves." (Y/n) replied lovingly, smiling when she thought about sitting in the library with her significant other while they cuddled and he read something to her.
Haxus purred particularly loudly and nuzzled his face in the crook of her neck, scenting his mate and taking her earlobe between his lips for a moment just to hear her moan. He didn't want her to get too hot and bothered because he couldn't just climb on top of her since she was in a fragile condition, but at the same time he wanted to make her feel loved by being overly affectionate. (Y/n's) eyes closed and she smiled when Haxus suddenly got all lovey dovey, letting out a moan when she felt his slightly chapped lips and the very tips of his teeth lightly graze the sensitive skin of her right earlobe. She couldn't deny that she felt a little turned on, and it had been a long time since they last did anything remotely sexual, so since the others knew not to disturb them she knew they could at least fool around for a while, they didn't necessarily have to have penetrative sex in order to enjoy themselves. Haxus and (Y/n) could have a little bonding time as a couple since they would have their privacy, but the next day something unexpected would be discovered.
