How quickly they do sell their souls
For the feast and promise of gold

It had been settled that tomorrow morning they would attack Lucia on the port. On the days that passed Steve and Amelia made a clear plan, as clear as it could be anyway. Investigated as deeply as the y could Lucia’s team and examined the port, making sure they each knew it like the backs of their hands. The fact that they were together gave them hope that they would succeed. They were both skilled and ready for anything but the truth was that they were outnumbered and their chances were slim. It would either go very well or very badly.

On the night before the attack they sat and ate around the table, trying to take their minds off what would follow, there was no reason to try and sleep, no reason to even close their eyes, the clock was ticking and followed by the ticking clock was the knock on the door. They each stood up in alarm, Steve always had a gun next to him, Amelia went in the bedroom to get hers. There was another knock, another heartbeat of fear and agony.

“be prepared to light them up.”

Amelia nodded, knowing exactly what he meant. Steve walked close the window and moved the curtain just enough to see who was sitting behind the wooden door. His eyes softened, he lowered his gun. He reached for the door and opened it swiftly. He was confused, angry, anxious, happy and worried all at the same time when he saw their old friend standing before him.

“Kono" exclaimed Amelia in shock and left her gun on the table. She ran to her friend's arms, hugged her with all the strength she had left, she longed her touch, her voice, her warmth. Steve was emotional too, he just didn’t know what kind of emotion it was. Then he noticed a boy standing behind Kono, his body tensed up again, he rose his gun.
“who the hell is that?”
Kono placed her hand on Steve’s gun calmly, telling him to put it back down. Amelia distanced herself to take a look at the unknown boy, although she could swear she had met him somewhere before.
“let us in and I’ll explain everything.” She said, looking at her boss. Steve trusted her enough to agree. The got in the small house with the dusty walls and cold air. Ones the door was closed, the boy stood in front of Steve, looking at him with courage and nervousness. He cleared his throat and hit his foot on the floor, raised his hand to his head. “special operator, second class, junior reigns. It’s an honor to meet you sir.”
Steve glanced at Kono, not really knowing what’s going on. Amelia clapped her hands in excitement!

“you’re Kate’s trainee! You were on her team when I was at the White House!”
“yes" he said, nodding his head.
“ok." Steve sighed, rubbing his head. “can someone explain to me what the hell is going on and how you got here?”
“Kate Harper helped us find you.” Explained Kono “she contacted me first. She thought I was the best choice to come and help, then last minute she added Junior on the team.”
“actually.” Stepped in junior “I asked to come with her. Before Ms. Harper I was on David Lang's team, he spoke very highly of you sir.”
“who is David Lang?” asked Amelia
“old friend. Old diving buddy actually.”
“he told me about your task force, what you’re doing in Hawaii and I always wanted to try my luck out on the team. Then I met Ms. Wesley, she spoke very highly if you and the team too.”
Steve glanced at Amelia, a grin playing on his lips.
“then I heard Ms. Harper talking about you, I volunteered to come and help.”
“why would you wanna help?”
“I want a place on your team in Hawaii. I figured this was the best way to get it.”
“it’s also the best way to get a place in heaven.” Joked Amelia, moving to the counter to get a coffee for herself.
“he’s good Steve.” That was Kono. She had her arms crossed to her chest, looking persistently at Steve.
“yes so are you Kono but I still don’t understand why you are here, risking your life.”
“what was I supposed to do? Me and everyone else on the team? Ha? We heard about the trap they set for you on Colombia, we thought Amelia was dead and we still weren’t sure what was going on with you. We were dying of worry everyday and you wanted us to sit with our hands tied?”

Steve slapped his hand on the table, losing his temper “I wanted you to sit where it was safe!” he shouted “I already had my mother and Amelia to worry about, now I have you and on top of that a kid barely out of his training.”
“with all due respect sir.” He topped his voice “I’m not a kid and I’m trained well enough to be able to fight 10 men at ones if I have to and shoot from miles away. I’m not a liability.”
Steve returned his attention to Kono “I told you to stay put. Me and Ams made it clear-"
“it became a little less clear when none of you would contact us for weeks.” She answered quickly.
“we’d do the same” said Amelia from where she was standing back at the counter. She had her warm cup on her hands and watched as the argument unfolded. Steve turned his head to her direction, narrowing his eyes like he was mad Amelia was taking their side. “let’s not fool ourselves Steve. If any of them were in danger, we wouldn’t think twice before getting on a plane to help them.” She looked at the boy, junior “as for him. He kind of reminds me of you. He chose to come an a suicide mission like it's an audition for X-factor. I already trust him enough. He’s right, he is not a liability.”
“boss. You can be as angry as you want but we are not going anywhere, so you might as well let us help.”

A cold silence followed, a shiver ran through everybody when they realized they were on the final countdown. Amelia smiled weekly “does anyone want coffee before we get started?”
They all got their cups and then Steve and Amelia started explaining to their new partners whet was going on
“we listen to the chatter, follow leads. We didn’t have anything to move on until a few days ago.”
“what happened?” asked Kono
“I went to find Doris alone-"
“which we're still fighting about by the way"
Steve ignored her “I had a good lead, I knew where she was, I thought I could get her out.” He huffed “I was wrong.”
“she pushed him away, gave him little information. She didn’t want out, she’s in way too deep.” Added Amelia
“she says she knows what she’s doing, that she's got a plan.”
“you don’t believe her?” asked junior
Steve stayed silent, Amelia looked down awkwardly. Kono stepped forward, looking at the few pictures they had gathered. “So what’s the new lead?”
“Rosita. It's a name that has been coming frequently on the comms.”
“who is she?”
“we are not sure  but whoever she is, she is making a deal with Lucia on the port, tomorrow.”
“we plan to attack there.”
“with what?”
“we will hit the cache before we go in and we got some goodies hidden on out closet too.” Amelia walked over to the end of the room and opened the closet. Big explosives were hidden in under the coats. “we plan to have a party.”
Junior scoffed “happy I have an invitation.”
“you are psychos.” Kono laughed, shocked.
“those are just the distraction.”
“ok I have to say I’m intrigued" she smirked

5-0 HEADQUARTERS

“GUYS!” Danny yelled for everyone to get out of the office. Adam was there too, discussing with chin. They all met on the main space and Danny put his phone on the big computer “I have a line with Kono.” He said. He felt chin's piercing stare and looked back at him quickly “she's alive” he said reassuring him Amelia was fine. “Kono tell them what you told me.”

“can you hear me?”
“loud and clear Hun!” said Grover
“is everyone ok?” asked chin
“yes we are all good.”
“was your trip ok?” that was Adam
“yes Adam. Don’t worry.”
“where’s the animal?” questioned Danny
“right here.” Answered Steve
“Ams?”
“right here danno.”
“we were worried sick for you.”
“I know, after getting attacked on the road, we had to make sure the cartel thought that we and Diaz are were dead. Hence us living in hole for the last couple of months and me not getting out. It was easy for Steve to disguise himself, he just grew a beard. There wasn’t much I could do and we didn’t wanna risk it, so I stayed in.” she explained.
“are you guys getting closer to the and of this?” wondered Grover
“yes. We are going in tomorrow.”
“it's nice to hear your voices” said Amelia, they could hear the ache in hers.
“grace misses her older sister.
There was a pause, although they could hear her whimpering a little, she cleared her throat making her voice deeper “tell her I’ll be there as soon as I can. Tell her that I love her.”

Danny closed his eyes, taking a deep breath “I’ll do the first. Not the second one, you’ll do the second one yourself, you hear me?”
“yes danno.”
“Steve!” said Danny, staring at his phone “take care of your six buddy, ok?”
“will do.”
“Kono! Take care of the animals and junior, we are all grateful you’re there.”
“thank you sir. Happy I’m here.”
“I think it’s safe to say that if you get out of there alive, you got a place on the team already.”
“thank you."

They made a few more jokes. Pretended everything was ok, laughed a little but soon reality set in and it was time to go and put on the fight of their lives. Amelia hid on the bathroom by herself for a while, looking at the mirror, she could swear she saw the devil standing behind her bur he wasn’t scary with thorns, he had a shape of a man she knew too well.

“hunter.” She whispered, half knowing that it was the lack of sleep playing with her mind.

“praying on a God you don’t even believe in again?” his voice asked, echoing in her head, chasing her sanity. He always said that to her, he always asked her why she bothered to pray when she didn’t even believe and she had never really given an answer to him or God.
She turned around, his figure even though fake seemed so real to her, she wondered what would happen if she stretched her hand out to him to touch, is it possible she could feel his skin again?

“are you gonna tell him you’ve gone insane?”
She didn’t answer, that’s because she had no idea what to say. Was she really insane, was she staring straight to the devil's eyes? Hunter walked forward, her knees trembled, she was terrified and intrigued at the same time. He stopped and stood still right in front of her, if he was real, she would be able to feel his breathing on her cheeks, smell the alcohol. He tilted his head and looked at her with compassion “how many more people will you send to the grave Ams?”

That was the toughest question of all, hunter was dead because of her, her parents too. Her hands were bloody. A light knock on the door brought her back to reality, her eyes ached from the fresh tears, her body felt so cold.
“Ams? You ready to go?” called Kono from the other side of the door. Amelia threw a bit of water in her face and steadied her breathing before walking out. They all got ready and got in the car, the hit cache with the weapons, picked up everything they needed and headed to the battlefield.

LUCIA'S PORT

Everybody was on their post. Kono was on top of a building a little farther away from the port with her rifle, scanning the environment and waiting for Lucia to arrive. Junior hid behind their car, waiting for the signal and looking ahead, making sure no one had their eyes on them. Amelia was closer to the port, she too was watching carefully to see the cars arrive, hiding behind one of the large cargo boxes, Steve was on top of another building, waiting for movement.

“hey guys! I got Rosita!” said Amelia through the comms.
“where is she?” asked Steve
“in the water. It’s a ship, not a person, who knows what they are carrying in there.”
“I got eyes on Lucia’s army.” Said Kono. Several cars came in line, three of them were black, on the middle there was a trailer and behind they trailer there were two more black cars “Junior you good?”
“yeah, they didn’t see me, we’re good. They got a mini sub on the trailer. They are coming your way Wesley”
“Even the president has less protection.” She commented when she saw them “that sub Is a drug shuttle. Steve, they brought us presents for the party.”
“how nice of them.” He said sarcastically, seeing all the product that had arrived today. “everybody stays sharp.”

Kono did a quick head count of their enemies as they stepped out of their cars. They all held machine guns and wire hats to cover their faces. “we're looking at about 50 targets.” She said, then looked around a little more until her eyes fell on what she had been looking for the entire time. The blonde, elegant lady. “I got your mum Steve.”
“yeah I see her. Ams?”
“Lucia is on the other car.”
“ok are we ready?” asked Steve and they all gave their answer, ready to follow the plan. “alright junior, it’s all you.”
“imagine you are auditioning for Simon Cowell boy; you’ll do fine I’m sure.” Said Amelia
“gotcha!”

Junior opened the door to the car; he started the engine and then quickly pulled the robe that was holding the car steady. The vehicle started going down the road slowly, looking like someone was actually driving it. It headed towards where Lucia’s cars and soldiers where, they yelled and aimed but the car didn't stop and when they realized no was in it, it was already too late. They wasted all their ammunition on it until it stopped in front of them and when they went to open it, the party began. It exploded in pieces, pushing them all away as it's fire rose up to the sky like a cloud. One of the cars that was closest exploded too, killing more of them.

“That’s what I’m talking about!” yelled Ams, excited.
“Kono you’re on" instructed Steve.
“copy!” she said and came out of her hiding spot, shooting at Lucia’s soldiers. Some of them saw her and ran to her, what they didn’t know was that they had hidden more explosives and ones they were close enough Steve gave the order.
“Amelia, ready on one!”
Amelia pushed the bottom, exploding another 10 of them to hell. She smiled at the sight. Kono hid back to where she was before.
“Steve ready on two.”
“copy.”

Another explosion, another win. Half of them were already in pieces. Amelia saw her way was clear and too a chance to get down and go in, she hid behind walls whenever she heard a gun shot near by and too cover. Junior did the same, ruining in like her, but he wasn’t fast enough and bullet hit his hand. He ducked down and sat on a corner between a couple of cargo boxes.

“Junior, you ok?” called Steve
“a little busy right now" he said, as soldier shot at him from afar blocking his way.
“I can’t get to him!” said Amelia “they got him trapped.”
“I got him!” said Kono, aiming from where she was at the men shooting him. She shot them like they were glass bottles on her training, one, two, three and four. As simple as that. “Ams, you’re clear go!”
Amelia ran to junior while Steve pushed the bottom for another explosion as distraction. “you guys good?”
“solid" said Amelia. “we're moving in"
“copy. I’m going too.”

Steve ran down from where he was and met Kono on the ground, they both ran for cover behind a cargo box. “you go left, I’m going right."
Steve ran to the left, he reached the docks where two man were keeping watch and after shooting them down, he walked farther in until he was in the building, they were supposed to be keeping his mum and Lucia. Two more man were in there, he shot them too and looked around for more until he saw his mum. They stared at each other for a few seconds before Steve continued looking for more men. The rest of the team was out distracting Lucia’s soldiers so they wouldn’t go in and find Steve. When he made sure the room was clear, he turned his full attention on his mother.

“where is Lucia?”
She didn’t answer.
“mum I’m not in the mood for games. I got people out there that have put their life in danger because of you! So, answer my question.”
“I told you to keep your people away! I told you to stay away" she mumbled
“are you freaking kidding me?”
“what did you think you’ll get out of this?”
“I was hoping to get my mother back. I think I deserved that much.”

“THERE HE IS!” yelled more of Lucia’s man. Steve saw them and shot them immediately, while he was shooting them another man came from behind, he only realized it when his mother shot him. Steve saw that as an act of love, he thought he got through her but soon enough his mother aimed at him and his breath got caught on his throat. His own mother, aiming to kill him. He scoffed; it was almost funny to him.

“oh, that’s how this ends? You’re gonna kill me now?”
“I warned you!”
“bullshit! Go ahead, pull the trigger, we don’t have much time. Confirm my instincts!”
“your instincts?” she laughed “what do you think I have turned to s devil? I’m now one of the monsters I was supposed to protect the people from? And what did I get for protecting them, all these years? NOTHING.”
“did you kill your partner?”
“I did what I had to do to survive! Get of that life!”
“YOU WERE A HERO! THST WAS YOUR LIFE-"
“AND YET I WAS ALWAYS TREATED AS A MONSTER!”
“do you decided to turn yourself into one!”
“I built something here! And you ruined it!”
“I’m trying to save you ma!”

“DORIS!” That was Amelia, running in with her gun aiming at her boyfriend's mother. “PUT THE GUN DOEN NOW!” she yelled, running closer to her. “PUT IT DOWN OR I'LL SHOOT YOU IN THE FACE!”
“who’s that Steve? New friend?”
“Amelia Wesley, nice to meet you. Now lower your weapon.”
“or what?”
“I think I made myself clear the first time.”
“she has spirit son.”
“why don’t we skip that conversation for later, when we're back home in Hawaii!”
“Amelia put your gun down-" asked Steve
“ARE YOU INSANE? SHE'S AIMING RIGHT AT YOUR FACE!”
“she won’t shoot me.”
“you don’t know that and I’m not risking it.”
“and what see you going to do kid?” asked Doris “kill his mother?”
“you think I’ll hesitate if you hurt him?” she said through her teeth. I don’t want to shoot you, but I promise I will if I have to-"

But she didn’t get the chance because soon she felt a loud pain on her back and she fell forward, with her head hitting on the ground and the last thing she heard was her name, before blacking out.
