"What is it Caroline?" I hear Ryan ask as he comes into my view.

"Did you invite Stella over for dinner?"

"Yeah, this is the girl who is going to be singing in the movies we are producing."

"Oh, that Stella. Well, come on in!" I hear a bit of a country accent come out of Caroline's mouth.

But seriously? Ryan KISSED me, but has a whole new fiance. Yeah, I'm confused about that one too.

"I'm going to go help your mom in the kitchen, babe." Caroline gives Ryan a quick kiss on the lips, and then she heads to the kitchen.

"So, um," Ryan starts, but he looks confused.

"How neat of you to forget you were engaged." I allow a snort to slip out.

Ryan chuckles a little, then replies, "You still do that cute snort when you're nervous, huh?"

"Don't call anything about me cute right now. I'm just so confused."

"Can we go to my room and talk?"

"Why?" I ask, but I feel my arm being pulled up the stairs. Ryan's room looks exactly the same as it did when we were together. The blue comforter, dark gray walls, the baseball posters hanging up around the room - everything is the same, but there are so many things that have changed. I notice the chestnut dresser still holds an old picture of us at prom. I notice my pink, flowy dress and Ryan holding on to me like I might slip away. That night was the first night Ryan told me he loved me, but here we are now when he has a new woman in his life.

"Stell, listen," he starts, "Caroline and I met two years ago. When I met her, she was unlike anyone I had dated in a while. I could never feel anything with any woman because I was still in love with you. You held my heart forever, and you still do. I called Caroline when I got back in town and saw you. I told her I needed some time to think, and I told her the engagement might need to be called off. She didn't take that well, and she flew to town. This morning when I got back home after our meeting, she was with my mom showing her the ring. I couldn't tell mom that things weren't going to work out because Caroline wouldn't let me speak. I have tried so many times to tell Caroline that I can't marry her. She's not the one for me, and I knew that but seeing you made it so much more true."

"Ryan, like you are not going to break off your engagement because of me. If you want to marry her, go ahead. Who the hell is stopping you? Not me. I don't care what you do, but we are not getting back together. You BROKE my heart, and then you come to town. You kiss me, and god you just confuse me." I quietly shout.

"So, the kiss meant nothing?"

"No, it sure as hell meant everything. That's the problem. I didn't know there was another woman involved. I'm not a homewrecker!"

"There's not a home to wreck when you have my heart, and you always will!"

"Then, why did you propose to her? You had to have some feelings."

"Yes I did love her, but it was never anywhere close to what I felt - hell, still feel - with you!"

"I don't know what to say. Your mom has no clue I'm here, does she?"

"Yes she does," Ryan smiles at me. "She was so excited when I told her, and then she was confused by the whole Caroline thing."

"Me too."

"Don't be confused. I'm dumping her tonight."

Ryan takes my hand and pulls me to sit on his old bed. He puts an arm around me, and I feel his cold hand hold onto mine. He leans in, and I feel his lips touch mine softly.

"Ryan?" I hear a voice outside the room. I'd recognize that voice anywhere.

"James!" I pull away from Ryan and jump up. James is Ryan's younger brother. I haven't seen him in years, but he still has his curly dark brown hair and black glasses. He's grown a foot since I last got to spend time with him, but he recognizes me the second I hug him.

"Stella, what are you doing here?"

"Ryan invited me over for dinner. I didn't realize what a messy situation he had going on here."

"Yeah, I always knew you'd be back. You're the only one who could deal with him properly." We both laugh.

"Hey guys, don't start ganging up on me again." Ryan jumps up, and he pulls us all together for a group hug. God, I missed this.

"So, why were you two making out on the bed? Caroline could have walked in."

"So? She knows we're done, and she's getting it through her head tonight."

"We'll see about that one, brother. Anyways, mom sent me up to get you guys for the food."

Oh boy, let the fun begin.
