The rotation and revolution of Sun and Moon and other bodies that exists in the universe is explained in the below three different verses of the Qur'an:

1. "Blessed is He who has placed in the sky great stars and placed therein a [burning] lamp and luminous moon." (Al Qur'an 25:61)

Verse Explanation with Science:

In this above verse, Stars represent all the other bodies except Sun that referred as burning lamp and Moon as luminous moon.

2. "And it is He who created the night and the day and the sun and the moon; all [heavenly bodies] in an orbit are swimming." (Al Qur'an 21:33)

Verse Explanation with Science:

This verse, "Swimming or Floating" refers to contextual meaning of the Arabic word "Yasbahun". 

~The word yasbahun is derived from the word sabaha. It carries with it the idea of motion that comes from any moving body. If you use the word for a man on the ground, it would not mean that he is rolling but would mean he is walking or running. If you use the word for a man in water it would not mean that he is floating but would mean that he is swimming. Similarly, if you use the word yasbah for a celestial body such as the sun it would not mean that it is only flying through space but would mean that it is also rotating as it goes through space.

3. "It is not allowable for the sun to reach the moon, nor does the night overtake the day, but each, in an orbit, is swimming." (Al Qur'an 36:40)

Verse Explanation with Science:

The revolution of Sun and Moon is neatly explained here. That is,

~the verse "not allowable for the sun to reach the moon" directly says that sun and moon rotating in entirely different orbits, and that they could not catch up to each others and collide. 

~ the verse "nor does the night overtake the day" indirectly says that one complete rotation for the Earth takes place in 24 hours(including one Day and one Night). It clearly says about the rotation of Earth.

~The verse "but each, in an orbit, is swimming" simply means that the sun and the moon are in an Orbit and they are. If the Quran has said that they are in an Orbit around the earth that is a contradiction, isn't it amazing how the Quran avoided that so that it simultaneously supported 7th century ignorance as well as modern understanding? It's AMAZING!
