Chapter 18
"Back! Back, I say!" Rob says while placing his two index fingers to form a cross as he and Tim both stoop down at the same time to check on Kelsey.
Tim tilts his head before turning to look up at his boyfriend.
"What's that supposed to mean?" Tim asks, referring to Rob's hand gesture.
"Rob, he's not a demon." Adam chuckles as he rolls this eyes and shakes his head.
"Then what the hell would you call it?" Rob asks, trying to help his wife but never taking his eyes off the dead guy.
"It? I have you know, sir, I am NOT an IT." Tim growls through clenched teeth as he raises a brow.
"Then what are you?" Rob asks as Kelsey begins to sit up holding her head.
"I'm a spirit but I was once a living, breathing human being just like you. I was murdered just because I was attracted to my own gender. It's not my fault that I can't cross-over." Tim says in a more quieter tone.
"We're truly sorry, Mr. Foust." Kelsey says as Sami hands her a glass of water. "Just seeing you here was a little overwhelming."
"Well, I do have to say that we weren't expecting to see anyone that would know who I was." Tim says with a slight smirk.
"Lucky us." Rob chuckles as he and Tim help Kelsey to her feet.
"How is this even possible?" Kelsey says, sitting down in a chair.
"Might I suggest we go somewhere else to discuss this? This is not the safest place to talk about this topic. We're having to yell just to hear each other and we don't want anyone overhearing us." Chance says.
"That's not a bad idea. Tim is going to be losing energy soon so we can go back to the house if you want." Adam suggests.
"Is that Austin fellow here too?" Rob asks as he glances around.
"No, he doesn't have the strength that I have." Tim answers.
"Rob, I would like to hear more." Kelsey says, looking at her husband with pleading eyes.
"Well, now that we've gotten over the shock, I do find this quite interesting." Rob nods as he straightens his glasses. "We can just follow you back to the mansion."
"Sounds good." Adam says, taking the spirit by the hand. "Let's get out of here."
"How are you feeling?" Adam asks once they were back in the car heading for the mansion.
"I feel fine." Tim answers with a smile. "We weren't gone that long. I won't need to go to my resting place."
"Rob and his wife were the last people I was expecting to see tonight. That freaked me out a bit." Chance chuckles slightly.
"You were definitely freaking out." Sami giggles.
"I was panicking a little myself. I couldn't even say anything." Adam laughs.
"You were panicking? How do you think I felt? Hell, I was looking at a woman that I've actually watched shower." Tim chuckles while running a hand through his hair. "Talk about an awkward moment."
"You pervert." Sami laughs.
"Hey, I had to get my thrills somehow." The spirit shrugs.
They were all still laughing about the night's event as they pull into the drive.
As Rob and Kelsey join them on the front porch, they could hear loud music coming from inside.
"You always leave your music playing this loud?" Rob asks as Adam unlocks the door.
"No, that's Austin." Adam says, shaking his head as they walk in.
"AUSTIN!! TURN THAT SH*T DOWN!!" Tim yells out in his booming bass voice.
The music suddenly stops and the Lundquists could hear footsteps coming from upstairs.
"What are y'all doing back so early?" Austin asks. Tim and Adam were the only ones that could see or hear the younger spirit. "Whoa! What are they doing here?"
"Uh, we sorta kinda accidentally ran into the Lunduists at the saloon, I mean bar." Tim answers.
"Oh, that's really great." Austin says, rolling his eyes. "Way to go, cowboy."
"No harm was done. Except maybe Kelsey fainting." Adam says with a small smile.
"As I said earlier," Tim says as he sees Rob and Kelsey's confused looks. "Austin is a much younger spirit than I am. As you well know, you guys can't see him and can only hear him talk at times, which to you sounds like a whisper. He only makes noises. Lots and lots of noises." Tim says as he glares up at Austin on the balcony of the stairs.
"Let's go into the living room so we can talk." Adam says. "Austin? Care to join us?"
"I wouldn't miss this for the world." Austin chuckles as he jogs down the stairs. His footsteps clearly heard by their guests.
Adam fixes their guests a drink as they all get seated.
"My first question is how did this all start?" Rob asks. "When we lived here Tim was only a shadow figure."
"That's because that's how I wanted you to see me." Tim answers. "Truthfully, I didn't want anyone living in my house. I'm not saying that you were bad people. But it's my house."
"Then why did you let Adam see you? And how long was it after he moved in?" Kelsey asks.
"Because I was attracted to him immediately." Tim says with a smile.
"Actually, I saw him when I came to look at the house." Adam adds. "The realtor was showing us the master bedroom. I was looking at the beautiful antique full-length mirror and he appeared behind me. He even smiled at me. I looked around but didn't see anyone and when I looked back into the mirror he was gone."
"Austin wanted to scare him away." Tim chuckles. "But I wanted him to stay."
"I probably would have too if you hadn't stopped me." Austin says with a smirk.
"I doubt that." Adam chuckles as he looks around at an empty chair causing the Lundquist couple to share a questionable glance.
"He's not crazy." Chance chuckles as he whispers to Rob. "I think Austin may be sitting in that chair."
"My first night after buying the place, I was awakened by loud music and shouting in the hall. Austin was trying to scare me away and Tim was yelling at him to turn the music off." Adam laughs. "It was quite hilarious. At the time, I hadn't opened my senses to them. I didn't do that until the next morning. That's when I saw him. Sitting in his favorite chair watching me."
"And it's been an amazing journey since." Tim says with a smile as he looks at his lover.
"Awww, that's so sweet." Kelsey smiles.
"It would make an awesome book or movie." Rob adds with a chuckle.
"I'm able to leave the house a few hours at a time until my energy runs low." Tim says. "Then I have to come back here to my grave, you might say, to recharge."
"Holy cow. You're actually buried on the property?" Chance asks.
"Yep. Right under the big tree next to the house." Tim answers.
"Wow. I knew you were hung from that tree but I had no idea that you were buried there." Rob says.
"No one knows outside of the ones that live here now." Tim says.
"That's so sad." Sami says with a sniff.
"It is sad." Adam nods. "And the more I learn about Tim, I truly believe he deserves a monument in his honor for the work he did, trying his best to free as many slaves as he could."
