"A ghost?" Patton laughed nervously, scanning his friends face for any sign that he was joking. That this was all some silly prank to laugh at. He could tell that Virgil was completely serious, and drew in a shaky breath. "A... a ghost. Alright. That's not at all terrifying..."
"I know," Virgil muttered, looking down. "It is a little weird.. but he's not gonna hurt you or anything. He really is my friend."
"You're friends with a ghost," Patton frowned, thinking it over. "That's... still weird, but... anyways, how did you even meet Logan? I would be terrified if I met a ghost. Well... I guess I already proved that."
"I was scared too. Which was really just funny, because we met when he gave me an answer to my homework." Virgil couldn't stop the grin that formed at the memory, holding back a laugh. "But he was actually pretty cool. Well, he's a nerd so not really cool, but nice. Ow-" Virgil rubbed his side, glaring at the space beside of him.
"You... can you see him?" He asked, looking to the spot Virgil had just been glaring at.
"No, but I definitely felt him elbow me for calling him a nerd." Virgil shook his head, sighing. "He can make himself appear for people, he just doesn't like to. We've been friends for a while though, so..."
"Oh," Patton said, a little disappointment in his voice. "So... does that mean I'll probably never see him?"
"That's up to him, I guess." Virgil shrugged, looking at the space beside of him again curiously. "Uh, I don't think so, though."
"I wouldn't mind," Logan spoke up for the first time and Patton couldn't help but flinch. He hadn't expected it, and it only confirmed he hadn't been seeing things earlier. There really was something there. Someone, he corrected himself. The ghost was still a person.
"I... you don't have to," Patton quickly assured. "I'm just a little curious. I don't... this is hard to understand, really. I can barely believe this is actually happening."
"I understand," Logan said calmly. "I truly do not mind. It just... takes me a while."
Patton watched in awed silence as something started happening in front of him. He looked to Virgil to see what he was doing, finding him looking completely calm as he looked between the space next to him and Patton. Patton turned back to where Logan was, now seeing a figure there that resembled a human. It took a while longer, but eventually Patton could see Logan entirely.
"I... this is really happening, isn't it?" Patton mumbled, looking over Logan. The ghost was holding his head strangely, but Patton didn't really think anything of it. After all, it was far from being the weirdest thing he had seen that day. "This isn't like, some weird dream or prank.... this is real!"
"Pat?" Virgil asked, stepping closer to his friend to put an arm on his shoulder hesitantly. "Are... are you okay? I-if you want to leave then I... I get it. I'm sorry if this has freaked you out..."
Patton looked up at his friend, just watching silently for a few moments. He took notice of the way Virgil appeared to make himself smaller, slouching down and using his hoodie to hide. Patton could tell he was worried-Virgil probably thought that he might leave, or think he was weird. Patton suddenly felt guilty. He looked from Virgil over to Logan, who was standing back and still holding his forehead, watching the pair. Patton looked back to Virgil and sighed, offering a tiny, nervous smile.
"I'm okay. It's just... new. That's all." He tried to reassure Virgil while also calming himself down. "I'm not going to leave. Promise."
Virgil seemed to calm down a little at that, returning Patton's smile with a small one of his own. He turned back to look at Logan and Patton did the same, watching them as they seemed to have a silent conversation right in front of him. After a few moments Logan looked back at Patton.
"I assume you have some questions," Logan said, receiving a nod from Patton. "I can't promise an answer to all of them, but you can ask. If Virgil thinks you are a good friend then I have no reason not to trust you."
"I... I don't even know where to start!" Patton frowned, thinking for a while. He glanced up at Logan, looking at the spot on his forehead he was covering. After a moment of thinking it over he pointed at his hand. "Can I ask why you're doing that?"
Logan frowned, glancing over at Virgil who seemed to share his worry. Virgil went to speak before him, but Logan cut him off.
"Do you really want to know?" Logan asked, looking back at Patton. "It is... gross. It might scare you."
"I'll be okay," Patton answered quickly. "I'm just... curious. It won't bother me, whatever it is."
"If I show you," Logan started, not meeting Patton's eyes. "And you do get scared, I can disappear again so you do not have to see it. I understand that it isn't normal. I don't even like to see it on myself."
Instead of arguing about him not minding, Patton nodded. He just wanted to see what he was hiding. It took a little while, but eventually Logan nodded back. Sighing, he slowly pulled his hands away from his face to reveal the gash on his head.
Patton gasped, stepping backwards in shock after seeing the cut. Logan's form almost immediately flickered, but Patton shook his head. "No, no, it's okay! You don't have to, it's just... I don't know what I expected, but it's okay."
"You're sure...?" Logan asked, hands already up and covering the gash again. Patton nodded, and Logan slowly pulled his hands away again. Patton continued to stare at them, Logan shifting uncomfortably from one foot to another.
"Does it hurt?" Patton questioned, and Logan shook his head. "Do you.... remember..?"
Logan shook his head again.
"I guess that makes sense." Patton said, and Logan looked confused along with Virgil.
"Why does that make sense?" Virgil asked for Logan, and Patton looked between the two of them as if it were obvious.
"Well... I'm sure that dying isn't the most pleasant of experiences. It makes sense that you'd want to block that out." He shrugged. "Do you think you'll ever find out what happened?"
"I don't know," Logan said simply, thinking over what Patton said. The three of them continued to talk for some time, Patton asking questions and Logan answering. Eventually the three ended up talking about things that weren't ghost related at all, talking and laughing. Patton couldn't help but notice just how close Virgil and Logan were, and he felt a little disappointed to find out that Virgil felt more comfortable around the ghost. He didn't let that bother him for long though, instead feeling happy that his friend was happy.
"Oh, I have to get home!" Patton mentioned suddenly, noticing the time. "My parents will wonder where I've been. It was really nice meeting you, Logan!"
"It was nice to meet you too, Patton." Logan agreed, and Patton grinned. He said his goodbyes to Virgil, hugging him before he dashed out of the library doors to go home. The pair watched him leave, sitting quietly for a moment.
"He seems... nice." Logan mentioned, looking over at Virgil. "Though a little loud.."
"Yeah," Virgil agreed with a short laugh. "It took me a while to get used to, but... he's a really good friend. I... were you okay with that, really..? You weren't uncomfortable at all?"
"I am still not very used to anyone seeing me, but you have nothing to worry about. I did not mind, or I would not have been so willing to show myself and answer questions." Logan assured, and Virgil reluctantly nodded. "Really, Virgil. There is no reason to feel bad. Even if I was uncomfortable it wasn't really your fault. You didn't know he would follow you here."
"Yeah, I guess." Virgil agreed slowly. "It was a little nice to be able to be with both of my friends together, actually. Even if it was kind of awkward at first."
"If Patton would like to meet again sometime I would not be opposed to spending time together again. Although, that is up to you and him." Logan mentioned, and Virgil smiled at him.
"That would be awesome. I'll... try and bring it up with him, I guess." Virgil said, and then sighed. "I also need to get home now though. Talk tomorrow?"
"Of course," Logan agreed, offering the smallest of smiles. "See you then."
